this is where direct icon passing comes in handy, i hate those types of steals--it looks like the ball sticks to the defenders hand(like back slapping, but the ball sticks to his hand)

I don't even throw it cross court unless i'm penetrating and dishing off, if I want to get the ball on the other side, I will usually pass it around the perimeter

someone above said that i shouldnt complain about the game so much, that its a great game, and how great the ea people have updated it!!

now let me tell you, i think the man who said that must have never seen or played a real game of basketball.

first of all, avareging 20 spg on the all star level and on the superstar level is a whole nother world.

second of all, someone said i should learn to play the game before i complain. now this is how it is. i told in the first message, only about the things that happen to everyone, even if your the online cyber mega nba live player, they will happen to you.

what is it to learn about when taking a 3pt ,miss it and the first pass after the rebound goes straight to the man over the halcourt. you sprint after the miss to the def end and find the man already slammmin like hell.
and somehow misteriously if you find yourself first man over the halfcourt, the defender will sprint by you run a few yards ahead of you and the position himself in front of you.

i never said that i have alot of my shots blocked, its like i block a milion shots, i block centers with sg with that shuttle explosions, and the funnny thing is that it either goes over half court, or direct to the hands of the opponent. i get 1 ball out of 9 after i block the man.

that what im telling you here isnt made up. what you say the game doesnt have weird steals-lying, the game doesnt have abnormal blocks- lying, the game doesnt have abnormal speed- lying. the game doesnt have abnormal fg pctg- lying... these are facts, i didnt make them up , every signe man, who will play this game will see them, if not , and if you thing the game is great, then fine. i would rather like it too, believe me.

dont get sad about my post, and not buying the game or such, just try it yourself, and if you like it with those problems that definetly are in the game, then fine.

just please dont tell me that its a great game, and that nothing is wrong with it, just dont,ok? )

Nobody is saying nothing is wrong with it most people just say a lot of your complaints can be taken care of by the patchers and every game around the world if its nba or fiba or whatever will always have some fastbreaks i am just telling u that i try and play solid offense and by taking the right shots and not taking the fast shots etc i dont get alot of fastbreaks against me. Soon as i am behind by 10 in the last Q then i will try to run and gun and if u dont have a hot shooter to hit the 3's etc u will get bitchslapped with the fastbreak cause u arent taking the right shots.

Actually, I play on Superstar 8 Minutes (anything more and I get too many points) and I average about 15-25 steals a game. You can't expect to average 20-30 steals a night, when the NBA teams in real life average about 10. I can get more steals then that, but then I would win by 30 points and there would be no fun, I try and steal the ball when the CPU does a wrong move.

Now to your lies.

Steals aren't messed up, if you pass the ball to a player being guarded well, then you should loose the ball. Pressing the steal button 100 times should get you a foul, actually, most NBA players don't reach in unless they see an openning, so you should get called the first time you press the button and don't get the ball, because that is a FOUL!

Blocks are the really messed up, they should of added way more blocking animations or none at all. You can't have 9 of 10 blocks go out of bounds. Shaq does that with a couple other really good blockers, the other 99% of the NBA actually blocks and then tries to take the ball. They really messed up on this and you can't do anything about it, all we can hope for is a REAL EA SPORTS update patch, but then again, we know how great that "NBA Live 2001 Update Patch For 2002" went last year.

The game, once you get the hang of it has pretty nice speed, sure there are too many fast breaks when you first start playing the game, but that is because you don't execute your offense well. Play better offense and don't loose the ball as much, otherwise you will loose big time!

The FG % once again goes into how well you run your offense for your % and how well you play defense for the CPU %. If you play defense like in the old days where you didn't have to do much then tough luck, play better defense, and that takes care of the %.

The 3 point shots, well, now you guys don't like that the CPU is taking 3 pointers, last year the CPU took NO 3 pointers, atleast for the PS2 version, unless they were running out of time, so they would end up shooing about 2 3 point shots a game. Play better defense, and don't get beat by a 3 pointer, this is the NBA people, if you leave a player open, they will knock it down, you can't expect them to make the players play like people play at the park, then you would complain about the players not shooting good enough.

I have been playing the PS2 version since it came out, and just started the PC version not too long ago, and I am still learning and the more I learn the better I get. For example, after playing for a while, you figure out that the FreeStyle Controls do absolutly nothing on superstar, except for the post up moves and the cool looking ball holding moves.

All NBA Live games are differnent, you can't expect them to make them better and yet you to be able to play the same way you did, in this game you actually got to play defense, you can't just dance around and you have to play good offesense, use plays, not just use the Crossover Button and go dunk because now you will get a charging call or loose the ball or even get blocked.

Stop complaining and start learning how to play the game, otherwise return it and go do something else.

BTW--RETURN YOUR GAME, buy STARTING 5--then you'll see what a piece of crap is

well, I played in superstar level and I managed to hold the opponents to like 45% FG.... I blocked them like nobody business of course and in turn got lots of TO due to the out of bound problem..... seriously speaking, this is the most screwed up part of the game, blocking......

other than that, I enjoyed the game a hell lots...... u really have to think twice b4 u pass or execute some plays..... if u dun, fastbreak will happens.... same goes for the PC, they did a wrong play and we will be rewarded by fastbreak..... take some time, learn the art of playing planned basketballing, and u will come to enjoy the game like I do.....

What people don't seem to realise is that EA never said nba live 2003 will be the perfect basketball sim.They obviously decided to make a "fun" game by blending sim and arcade.

Switching to arcade mode is simply a quick way of turning off all the rules.I think that's what they wanted.If they made a perfect nba Sim...guess what?Only a handful of people would buy the game...but it sells now the way it is to the casual pick up and play gamer.


People complain about the "faults" of NBA live as if EA made some kind of coding error by leaving something out.These people are professionals and they do everything with the purpose of making money.This game sells.

Obviously that's not the truth or we wouldn't see different things during gameplay such as with blocks, they don't often go accross the court or fly out of bounds nearly as much as they do on sim mode (should be the opposite BTW) and I've noticed several other differences in gameplay between sim and arcade. It's not just a quick way to change the rules.

That's BS. Most people want a realistic basketball game. And if what you say is true then they wouldn't have made it so it's much harder to pass, in years past it's been arcady style passing now it's some what realistic (still needs alot of work). Obviously they want it to be realistic but didn't want to put in the work required to make this game most realistic. They're too busy making this game available to all platforms.

Those would be called bugs. The gameplay problems (aswell as some features that weren't added) are a result of the pre planning and/or incomplete development, not because of coding errors.

If you like this game then great. Good for you. But others are going to feel differently and if they want to complain then let them do it in peice without telling them they're wrong for griping is why this forum was created..

This game I agree has a ton of faults, but like some people said earlier, call the right plays, adjust the ratings and enjoy. This game's graphics make me love it compare to playing 2001 on pc for the last 2 years hehe, I am still getting used to the game play, and am not very good at Defense, but The game just came out for PC, give it time, and.....ENJOY!! BOOOMM!!! CELTICS!!!

alot of people here are playing nba live pc since 1994 and you just started, what kind experience do u have to say that, pc gamers have to wait 2 years to get this game thats why its normal for them to have high expectations. so go get ur ps2 and play nba live on your ps2. ps2 and pc are not the same

sometimes in real nba game i saw that a player blocks a shot out of bounce and crowd was outstanding.

The sence of a block is to get the ball after the block you or a otherguy of your team.
Block out of bounse is a fancy move

All other stuff like steals ans gamespeed can change with new ratings. ( A new overall rosterpatch)
Thsi is much work, but i believe the game will much better than now.

Very good is the art of rebounds. EA had fix the off rebounds.
To play def is harder than the old versions, because orf the options of the freestyle control many people must buy a new controller and so it will be a learning process
for controlling then new analog pad....so it is for me.

The play by play comantarys nice by sometime there are teh some old bug like nba01

Majority of what started in this thread is true. The biggest problem i have with the game however is the "catch up" thing that the game does. It doesnt reward good play with a win unless you are supposed to win the game it seems.....good defense is only to make sure u dont get blown out by the cpu and the game stays close. The other way the game stays close and supposedly exciting is by the computer selecting which shots are made and not made as well as how frequently. you will find that when you are ahead baskets are alot harder to make whether or not its missing a break away dunk or simply posting up with your most dominant bigman but getting the ball stolen by the defender four feet away (i play it back in replays all the time). Especially on superstar mode this game is frustrating to the point where i feel like just watching the cpu play itself. Despite all that, i still like the game becuz of all the nice moves and animations. The visual appeal is really all that keeps me playing it. I wish EA would make a patch for these things but its highly unlikely. Maybe some gifted patcher can do something but right now tweaked player dbfs dont do much for my experience.

Well, I like it a lot. This game is great fun in spite of whatever flaws it has or still has or will have. And it is still an improvement over its' predecessors.

yeah...i experienced bugs too...like when the comp is posting up and i take a charge..if the referees call charge,im lucky..but if there is no call the ball sometimes will go to the ring and scores(9/10) evn if the comp didnt shoot it.sometimes also when theres no call..the comp's player will stay in his position and wont move at all until d shot clck expires(lucky 4 me dis happens only to the comp not my players).but the thing that i really hated is the opponents 3 point shooting(in superstar).i'm leading by more or less 20 the he will start shooting 3s in the 4th quarter to get back.and part that sucks is that he connects almost 90% of the shots.(my blood preassure and temper goes up when this happen)and you will have a really hard time shooting jump shots and passing coz of the steal and fouls problem(problem mentioned b4 by another person on this forum).but i can win games...specially when i'm patient and my temper is a lot cooler.
but there is one i cant really figure.when i install the game,the upper jersey uniform is colored dark gray as if a dark shadow is covering the upper jersey.you wont be able to see the jersey #.i tried turning the lightings off.it fixes 85% of that problem.coz the "shadowed jersey still appears on the cut scene where in the players are coming out of the dug out(goin to the court).and the graphics is not as nice as when the lightings are on.please somebody try to help with this problem....pls....

This has been the most disappointing version of Live yet. I have owned every nba live for the PC since 95'. And this one probably has the worst game play. I feel like I am playing in T-Mac Adidas commercial. Here are some of the things I've noticed.

Blocks: Too many, I have been blocked when standing behind one of my own players. And I rarely see a ball get blocked at the dotted circle and end up at half court.

Offense: To easy to score anytime a player gets with in 8ft of the basket he automatically dunks it (even if there are players in the way). From out of bounds your players don't come to the ball and it does not allow you to throw lob passes so you either get the ball stolen or get a five second call (this is on baseline out of bounds plays). Defensive players will always jump in the air after pump fakes, allowing you to go right around them.

Defense: Players do not miss unless you either block the shot or steal the ball. This is not defense. On fastbreaks no one on your team gets back so they always have a two or three on one break. Then you can't stop the player once he is in the air, you can't even foul them to stop the dunk or layup.

I am probably forgetting some of the things I found. Hopefully some one will patch this game, because the graphics are very good.

Yeah the blocking and stealing are annoying...
No teams gets 30 intercepts a game... and Mike Bibby doesn't get 5 Blocks per game either...
Plus, every time my center or PF shoot they are blocked... No matter who is gaurding them
