Video of the injury.
Kobe gets a lot of credit for shooting those free throws after tearing his Achilles last season, but returning to the court with a fractured knee is even more courageous. Probably very ill-advised, but courageous nevertheless.

All the motivation he needs, I would assume.
Fri Dec 20, 2013 12:07 pm
Motivation is irrelevant if his body keeps failing him.
Maybe he should put his ego aside and realise that he is 35 and just take his time coming back.
Fri Dec 20, 2013 3:44 pm
He should hang it up like Jordan, go play pro soccer, then come back a year and a half later.
Fri Dec 20, 2013 3:47 pm
This is saddening.
If he misses six more weeks, then Lakers aren't making the playoffs. And if that's the case, then he really can't do anything by returning this season. So, he should return as a more than healthy player next season.

I don't know, they were winning some games without him. They might be able to stay afloat.
If nothing else, he'll be able to pass Michael Jordan's career total for points in the regular season. I can't see him taking the rest of the season off unless another injury forces him to.

They play better without him, he froze up the offense quite a bit. Interesting signing of Kendall Marshal, hoping he can provide a boost in the absence of the other 3 PG's.
I'd much rather have Nash hang it up so his money comes off the books, I don't see him coming back and providing much. Assistant coach to D'Antoni seems fitting & can influence Blake/Farmar/Marshall.
I like this team, they're no superstars and won't get you the championship or anything but they've got fight in them. Much more fun to watch than last year at least. Kobe was setting Gasol up closer to the rim the last three games though, seemed more comfortable.
Fri Dec 20, 2013 8:42 pm
I wouldn't be surprised if he was out the rest of the season.
Fri Dec 20, 2013 8:43 pm
Kobe or Nash? If Kobe, I doubt it.

About that...

The Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers have had discussions about a trade that would involve Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, league sources told ESPN.com.

The media is really reaching, now. Gasol gets sick, can't play, feels a bit better so he works-out/practices, doesn't feel good enough to play so doesn't(probably flared up from working out instead of resting), gets ripped by the media in doing so since it most likely cost the Lakers the championship by not playing in such a pivotal game, and now he is trade bait for somebody who "doesn't even like basketball"?
If this story had chosen Greg Oden instead of Bynum, I might have actually believed it.

makes sense to me, dump salary and enter tank mode lol

Wow Farmar's out. Nobody on the Lakers are healthy. Perhaps Kobe really should sit out for the season and work on his conditioning and getting his leg back to 100%.
Wed Jan 01, 2014 10:33 pm
Playing point guard for the Lakers this year is apparently hazardous to one's health.

Wonder what would happen on Marshall.
Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:47 pm

But with that $19M cap space after this season, might as well bring LeBron to Houston
Sun Jan 05, 2014 9:02 am
Heck no!
Now that's what you call a first game for Kendall Marshall as a starter.
Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:10 am
Great game for Kendall Marshall against the Jazz. 20pts 15 asts 6 rebs.
Mon Jan 06, 2014 3:07 am
Pau for Bynum looks like almost a sure thing at this point. problem is that Lakers are deep in the swingman department and those are the only expendable players for the Cavs
Mon Jan 06, 2014 6:43 am
Marshall is the new Lin

Looks like the deal for Bynum may not happen:
Cavs refusing to include Dion Waiters in Andrew Bynum-Pau Gasol trade talks with LakersThe Cleveland Cavaliers have refused to include Dion Waiters in Andrew Bynum-Pau Gasol trade talks and remain reluctant on sending a future first-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Los Angeles could save $20 million-plus on a Gasol-Bynum deal, but the Lakers' insistence on more than salary-cap relief from the Cavaliers – such as Waiters or a draft pick – has been a significant hurdle in discussions.
Cleveland sees Gasol – who will be a free agent in 2014 – as a rental player for the rest of this season and largely wants the Lakers to view the substantial financial savings as motivation to complete the deal, sources said.
Time is running out for the Cavaliers to beat the Tuesday contractual deadline on Bynum's $12 million for the rest of this season. Whether the Cavaliers keep Bynum or trade him, his deal can be bought out for $6 million until Tuesday. After that, the contract becomes fully guaranteed for the season.

THey were shopping him earlier this year and I'd figure him or Miles would get thrown into the trade but I guess they don't think it's worth giving up Waiters to get Pau
