Coach Thorpe: Kidd is the Worst NBA Coach
He gets an F. He gets a 0. My wife could coach a team to a 29th ranking for that team. She doesn’t know much about basketball.

What a joke. He's the best PG in the league history. How could he not be a great coach?

It's probably not a stretch to grade him like that. Even though he's one of the best point guards in league history, he's still making the move straight from the court to the coaching ranks, without any grooming as an assistant or time out from the game as an observer. Maybe he just needs to lean on his assistants for support a little more while he's still learning the craft.

If he doesn't start winning, Kidd will be gone even before the ASG.

It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens if the Nets continue to underperform, especially given his ownership stake in the team.

I still wonder what made him a headcoach right off the bat. The reasons were phony too, something like "He knows what it takes to win!" or "Players will respect him!". Ugh... He's still a guy with zero coaching experience on his resume whatsoever.

But there's a saying that coaches are only as good as the players they coach. And two leader/pillar players(or w/e you want to label them) have been utterly horrendous as well, namely KG and Deron. You probably still have some level of expectation from KG/Deron caliber players as they have experience, leadership with still capable game (from last season). But they failed to improvise or adjust whatsoever.

Only bright spot right now is probably a win against the Heat and somewhat close loss to the Pacers. And that KG/Deron can't get any worse. Coach Kidd probably will improve as well. Question is simply when.

There's only so much you can do when the entire team wants to take long twos all from the same general spots. (Half the team seems to prefer taking jumpers from the right wing.)

Look at the shot chart for the Clippers game where the BIG FOUR didn't play. Close to the paint and close to the three point line. Deron, KG, Pierce and Lopez weren't there to fire all up their 15-20 footers.

I agree, shot selection and spacing are questionable at best.

For him it's probably some random player in green jersey. Heck, it even could be Jordan Crawford.

Where can I find this choking chart?

NBA.com has shot charts so do ESPN.

http://espn.go.com/nba/shotchart?gameId=400489019

If you can't see the chart something's wrong with your browser's flash player.

Kevin Garnett. (This should sadden some folks like the James joke of last week that made Jaosie sads.)

More fun news on BEST PG EVA.

KIDD DOESN'T DO ANYTHING
“He doesn’t do anything,” said the scout, who has watched the Nets several times. “He doesn’t make calls. [Assistant coach] John Welch does all the offense. Lawrence [Frank] does all the defense. … I don’t know what Kidd does. I don’t think you can grade him and say he’s bad. You can give him an incomplete.”

Where is graybakflip when we need his insight on this?

So much for him not relying on his assistants enough then, if they're doing all the work anyway. He'd probably be better suited as an assistant himself, where he can learn the ropes and mentor players having been so recently an active player himself. I guess as the head coach, he's something of a gimmick, a "name" to fill the position.

lol people just want to crucify Kidd so badly. You know this when quotes of "a scout who has watched a few Nets" games makes the headlines.

A scout "who has watched the Nets several times", for whatever it may be worth.
