It's even funnier when you think that I'm not even top of the conference. The way the 76ers are going I'm not going to be able to catch them before the end of the season.

Wow, impressive play from Wall and Beal this season. I'm curious if you're gonna need to sacrifice somebody when it's time to start paying Wall, Beal, and Cousins. How long does Beal have until he needs to be extended?

Wall and Cousins are due for big money at the end of this season and at this stage I'm certainly hoping to keep them. Not sure how much they will be wanting, but it will probably be a fair amount as Cousins is like a top 5 center on this game and Wall could well end up winning the MVP this season if he keeps up his awesome form.

Beal has two years left of team options after this season. If he keeps improving he'll definitely be a bargain with his current wages.

DeRozan will be probably be the unlucky one to get traded at some point when I need the money to spend on Beal and Noel. Plus there is whoever I end up picking in the upcoming draft. I could be needing to pay Andrew Wiggins in a few years too.

I guess that's a challenge for me to deal with. Unlike my previous dynasty games I'm aiming to stick with the young players I've got and develop them instead of signing established stars in free agency.

The first quarter of this game was amazing. Beal had 20 points (6-8 3pt) and Noel (9pts, 5reb, 3ast, 1stl, 2blk) set up his monster game early.

You look at the game Cousins had (23pts, 10reb, 5ast, 2stl) and think he would be the best player on the court. Not in this game though.

This was my best rebounding game ever. I outdid Orlando 62-38 and had three guys grab 10+. Usually I struggle to get one.

1/4/14

Wiggins a real possibility to join high-flying Wizards next season

Image

It's fair to say that fans of the Washington Wizards are pretty happy right now. Their team this week overtook the Philadelphia 76ers and now hold the best record in the league. The exciting young team coped fairly well with the loss of MVP co-favourite John Wall for a couple of weeks recently and since his return have taken their game to another level. They are currently on an eleven game winning streak which includes wins in Miami, Los Angeles and Denver.

The turnaround in fortunes of the perennial cellar dwellers has been amazing. They only managed twenty-seven wins last season and showed no sign of improving at all. But after some good fortune on draft day, with Orlando selecting Shabazz Muhammad with the first pick instead of Nerlens Noel, and the emergence of John Wall into a genuine superstar and Bradley Beal into one of the top scoring guards in the league. Add to that trio one of the most physically dominating big men in the league DeMarcus Cousins, and the Wizards have produced some very exciting run-and-gun style basketball this season. During they current winning streak Bradley Beal has been spectacular. He has averaged thirty points, six rebounds and five assists in the eleven games.

Wall has been amazing this season with his athletic dunking, great court vision and pinpoint passing. He and Miami's LeBron James are the leading candidates to be named most valuable player. Wall is the first player since John Stockton in the early 1990's to average over fourteen assists per game in the regular season. He is racking up fourteen points, four rebounds and over fifteen assists per game. It is perhaps just a coincidence that Wall is due to earn his first major contract at the end of the season. He's facing tough competition from the best player in the world who is going for his third straight MVP and fifth overall. LeBron is averaging twenty-four points, eight rebounds and six assists this season on a team that currently holds the third seed in the eastern conference. The final decision may come down to which individual's team finishes above the others.

Another reason for the Wizards to smile is the fact that the Toronto Raptors are having such a horrible season. They sit bottom of the eastern conference with a 20-53 record, the worst in the entire league. Washington own the Raptors' 2014 first round pick after acquiring it in the trade that sent Rudy Gay to Toronto. The ultimate irony for the Raptors is that the top prospect in the upcoming draft class is Andrew Wiggins, the Toronto native who is labelled as a once in a generation athlete. He has been lighting up the college scene with the Jayhawks this year and is the consensus number one pick amongst most media commentators.

At the time of the Gay trade there were rumours that the pick that the Raptors gave up was top one protected, just in case Wiggins was a possibility. There hasn't been any official confirmation or denial from either franchise though. The Raptors could really use the boost that Wiggins would give them, especially as Steve Nash will be retiring at the end of the season.

I'm just wondering whether I should draft Wiggins or not (If I get the chance). I feel that I'm quite stacked already in terms of young talent and will be tight with my future finances, and I'd be better off trading down in the draft if I get the top pick. There are several players in the top 15 prospects that I'd be happy to have on my team.

I also feel like everyone here would throw rotten vegetables at me if I passed on the opportunity to have Wiggins on my team.

Any opinions?

Postby hova- on Sun Jun 23, 2013 10:26 pm

Well it's tough. You're team is so stacked, so I don't know if a player like Wiggins would be the right choice. I'd try to get the best out of the pick and make future 1st rounders out of it + role players you need (maybe shooters, dunno)

Your team is doing so incredibly well that it is tough to say what to do with a lottery pick in this case. Doesn't happen often.

The standings are cool, things definitely have turned around a bit in this story and i like it.

I've been looking into some options and I'll pick one on draft day. It will probably depend on how the lottery goes for me.

There are 9 games left and I've decided to increase the difficulty to all-star. I just feel like there has been too many blowout wins lately and I want to see if I can finally win a game on the higher difficulty, after that 23 game losing streak last season

Digging the upped difficulty. You were getting so good results and I think your team has not even maxed out yet with all that talent. So it's better to increase difficulty and wait until you will own again :)
