2013 in Film

Postby benji on Tue Jan 29, 2013 7:09 am

This isn't really intended to be a catch-all thread for any and all movies (somebody else could helm a reboot there) but instead to have a focus on current and upcoming films centered around 2013.

Here's a useful list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_in_film

How about some random poster/teaser images:

Here's a list of some sequels:
A Good Day to Die Hard
The Last Exorcism Part II
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Scary Movie 5
Iron Man 3
Fast and Furious 6
The Hangover Part III
Monsters University
Kick-Ass 2
Despicable Me 2
Grown Ups 2
The Smurfs 2
300: Rise of an Empire
RED 2
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
Paranormal Activity 5
Thor: The Dark World
UNTITLED The Best Man Sequel
A Madea Christmas

However new releases aren't the only things coming,
Four box-office hits (Jurassic Park, Top Gun, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) will all be re-released in 3D and IMAX.

Interested to see Man of Steel, hopefully it will turn out to be to the Superman franchise what the Dark Knight saga was to Batman.

Yeah, I can't believe they're still trying to milk the Hangover stuff, one should have been enough.
I'll probably watch A Good Day To Die Hard at some point because I used to really like those movies when I was younger, and I'll definitely see the new Anchorman. I saw the preview for Oblivion at the theater, it might be alright too, but mostly because I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic stuff.
The last two Pixar movies were a bit of a letdown, but the new Monsters might be fun.
The original 300 being one of the worst movies ever made, I have no reason to believe that the sequel won't blow.

Yeah some of those sequels don't make sense just for the sake of extending it. Reminds me of Prison Break on TV.

Going to say it again that Pacific Rim will be terrible.

What is with fairy tales being reimagined or something. Like that Hansel and Gretel one.

people have run out of ideas for characters & stories so nowadays any movie is either a remake or "based off true events"

So you mean "Paranormal Activity" and "Passion of the Christ" are not true?

its a big fad right now i'd like to blame on the graphic novel series Fables.

Probably more based on Once Upon a Time's success though.

Apparently will be another trailer this week.

Looks a hell of a lot more like he's Khan in this one.

Maybe I should read the prequel instead of being a dope on here.

Other trailer:

Is the first film worth watching to familiarize myself into anything Star Trek? I have never watched any Star Trek related before in my life and the new movie seems interesting enough.

No, other than appropriating the characters and basic setting for dumb action films, the first one and probably this one have nothing really to do with Star Trek.

saw iron man 3 and gatsby this week. Both good. Little disappointed Iron Man 3 wasn't more epic but not everyone goes insane like Christopher Nolan did.

I think it's pretty good. The Mandarin twist was quite nice but I hope the 'paid actor' gig was done in better taste. I don't know, I kinda felt the Mandarin character was put to waste. I kinda wished they'd stick with having the Mandarin as a terrorist.

Yeah i kept expecting the "actor" to be an act and Mandarin to actually be a terrorist just fucking with Tony Actually though, the further away I get from seeing it, the more I like Iron Man 3. It was what it needed to be and developed Tony's character more than the other two movies combined.

Star Trek Into Darkness commits a lot of unforgivable crimes, and still is written like complete shit with no care for much of anything in terms of tone, consistency, characterization, coherence, etc., but it's waaaay better than the first one.

Hopefully for the third one they will do something original and not waste a potentially great villain. He fucking sucks as Khan, but could have been a decent original character like Nero if you know they BOTHERED TO PUT ANY BACKSTORY IN THE FUCKING MOVIE INSTEAD OF CUTTING OFF ANY ACTUAL CHARACTER MOMENTS BY DOING BORING ACTION BULLSHIT AND LOL REMEMBER THIS DUDE AND THIS PART WE CAN'T WRITE MOVIES WHAT IF WE REVERSE THINGS

also, there's more ways than killing or threatening to kill someones family to make them a sympathetic villain...also, they don't have to pretend to be sympathetic, they can be total jerks, the Dark Knight seemed pretty successful Another film that was pretty successful at this? The Wrath of Khan.

also, why did we waste the first half hour of the film on demoting Kirk, bringing him back, shifting Spock off, then bringing Kirk back as Captain and then bringing Spock back. Like literally almost all of the first part of the film was unnecessary. We couldn't have just had Kirk and Spock showing up at some fancy meeting without it?

I can't tell if the games plot is inherently worse than either of the two films. I'll be headlining my review "a faithful adaptation" based on what I saw in the two films and the comics. (The dodging debris in a space suit was way better in the movies version though. Maybe because I didn't have to do it five times.)

Okay, I was going to do that anyway.

Why does Carol Marcus have an english accent? And why was she taking her clothes off?
