Cyberface smoothing?

Postby Vespasian92 on Tue Apr 23, 2013 5:15 pm

Hey everybody,
So after spending a little time watching the tutorials, I decided to start fooling around with 2KX and Blender. One of the first things I figured out how to do it put headshapes onto new hair. Some look fine, and don't really need to be smoothed or edited (it gave me most of what I was hoping for straight out of 2KX).

I tried a multitude of other cyberfaces (the hair and facial hair part), and some of them look absolutly unproportioned with Johnson's face. This is the best afro face I found. I have a question about if any further editing or smoothing is possible. I already tried doing so with Blender with no luck.
It looks fine from a distance...

But becomes more obvious closer up.

Any advice on finishing this?

In blender the distance between the headshape and the hair isn't visible. Moving or changing the scales in blender have no effect (it looks the same in-game after I export everything back to an iff.) If I try to join the meshes ('join objects' in the objects menu), I get the errors when trying to export it to the iff. in 2KX.

Can you tell me how to put a texture (like hair) onto another cyberface in Blender? I tried for hours and no luck.

It looks to me like there odds a texture issue. Probably the alpha channel causing the hair to become invisible.

Well, I started fooling around with not using certain DDS files and found what seemed to be a problem. I was importing the BMP file as well as all the DDS ones. When I left the BMP file alone, it smoothed itself out.

I do have a couple other questions though. It seems like only certain faces are compatible with each other (i.e. only parts from certain faces will be allowed by 2KX onto another iff. Manny Harris' parts and afro were compatible with James Johnson, yet most other faces gave me errors when trying to use their parts) Is there a trick I just don't know, or is that how it is?

Also, I spent a little time experimenting with trying to add Amare's goggles to Isaiah Austin's cyberface (from a draft class). Following the correct directions (the same that worked properly to put new hair/facial hair on Johnson), the end result was Austin's headshape and legs with rainbow checkered face and arms (Amare's goggles were on it btw). Is this the same as my previous question about some simply being incompatible with no way to make it otherwise?

Thanks for the response btw :)

I only did a little bit of this a couple years ago, but the trick is that you can't add any new parts to any iff file. You can substitute the head models since they all have the same number of vertices and polygon faces, then edit everything else to fit.

Correct me if I am wrong. I think we are stuck there.

That's what it seems like to me. Putting Amare's goggles on someone else (when it works properly instead of rainbow checkers) results in replacing their hair with Amare's as well (the hair and the goggles have the same ID number when I open headshapes in blender).
