I know what the +/- mean on the floor, I brought it into the same discussion because of it's relevance to what was being talked about with the PER. Might have worded it wrong, but it's all in the discussion in regards of trying to edit these player's sliders just by looking at percentages and pluses and minuses.. I don't think and my opinion now, I don't think it should be done this way, a percentage will not tell you how good someone is at dribbling or creating space, etc.....
So all this focus on the PER and other statistical analysis, I mean I have a really hard time believing the rosters are being made with such heavy investment on this... I assume to make up for the lack of personal experience watching the games and players in person or on TV by some of these guys who make these rosters who don't live in Canada or United States...
John Hollinger himself said it's by no means a perfect system, and has as many negatives as positives. But as long as you know what you're looking for within that system you will get your results

but with this discussion I'm starting to understand you guys are more about creating rosters that simulate stats in season or association modes, at the end of the season type of thing.. I just always thought every player was supposed to be identical to how they are in real life, all the sliders proper, all the signature skills and moves proper in order to replicate these things in the game yourself.
Because I want to be able to do Blake Griffin's exact dunk that he does in real life, I want to be able to shake people off me like Jamal Crawford does in real life, I really don't care much about overall big picture percentages and statistics. I care about controlling the individual player and teams and replicating exactly what players do in real life as far as their skill repertoire goes.....
But still however I always aim for simulation type statistics when I play and control my teams, meaning I will try and get Chris Paul 11 or 12 assists a game and about 15+ points, I will try to get Jamal 20+ points, I will try to get Blake a 20 'n 10, etc.... but I want to be able to do it mimicking the exact manner in which they do so in real life

I have tried probably all slider sets from Operation Sports, NLSC, etc. in 2012 and 2013.
Personally for me Alby's gameplay '13 is something totally different other modders can offer. The way AI plays is absolutelly brilliant imo (having in mind that it is impossible to change all aspects of the game).
I really do not care what a ccessories a player has and is he better or worse than Kobe Bryant, the main is how the game is running and this part fits for me really well. Furthermore, I really like that I can be disabled to 77 FGA per game in 12 min/q what is unbelievable realistic and can't be achieved with other sets.

I'm looking at these signature skills more closely that 2K made, and one in particular.... well actually 2, the Shot Creator seems useless as it insinuates that the player is exceptional at creating space for a shot via dribble moves, as if the guy can shake anybody off him. But then continues to say some crap about defense penalty being reduced by up to a 100%.... so is it easier for a player with this skill to shake people off or not ??

The one that really bothers me I have no idea why 2K would give it such power, is the Lockdown Defender. They gave this sig skill the power to completely shut down an offensive player's sig skills... Great offense beats great defense, this is fact... so I don't understand why they gave this sig skill such a huge advantage, I think this one has an even bigger advantage then the Finisher skill.
For those of you that don't agree that good offense will beat good defense, ask any elite defender guys like Iguodala, Allen, etc.... they will all tell you that it's impossible to stop or eliminate the offensive skills of guys like Kobe, Durant, Carmelo, what they do is make it as difficult as possible for them to not allow them catch the ball in their sweet spots at best.
The furthest this sig skill should have gone is something along the lines of maybe dragging down the shooting percentages of the offensive player. So for example if Iggy is guarding Durant, he shouldn't be able to completely negate all of Durant's offensive Signature Skills, but instead just dragging his shooting percentage down by a few missed shots a game like it happens in real life.

But this offense defense thing, this one thing that's common knowledge even among casual nba fans all the way to the professionals themselves, this one thing is not it....

nobody stops Kobe, nobody stops Lebron, nobody stops Durant, nobody stops Melo.....etc.... best they could hope for is slow them down......

And I thought given the context of my comment with sig skills, he would have known that I was talking about individual players going 1 on 1, wasnt talking about team defense and offenses.....
and even when you wanna talk team defenses, I'll tell you one thing, the last team that was consistently beating other teams based on their rugged team defense, were the Bad Boy Pistons of the late 1990's... they did it with brutal physicality because it was allowed back then.... but rules have drastically changed in recent years pampered and catering to offensive players, handcheck's are gone, half circle charge zone added underneath the hoop, etc..... now more than ever, even a decent scorer will usually get the best of an excellent defender.....

I'm sorry that you have a very limited grasp on the game of basketball, and the concepts of individual and team defense, as well as advanced statistics, and the way the game is played in general. I'll refrain from cluttering this thread further, and having this degenerate into some sort of childish flame nonsense. But please understand that your understanding of the game is probably 1/8 of what you believe it to be. It's all good. To each their own. Enjoy your game.

yea that's what I've understood recently after reading some replies.... it's all edited in a way to give you realistic stats for more of a seasonal or association results..... a lot of variations, from quarter times, to substitution patterns, player progression being a big one I guess, and making sure no player is overpowered, etc.....
I didn't know this, I just assumed every player would be made to be exactly like in real life and how they're playing currently. Because me personally I just jump in and play daily exhibitions and I myself try to control and replicate the individual players and what they do in real life. I don't play season or association... so you're right I have to make my own personal adjustments for my style of play

Why don´t you play Association? It´s the best mode. It´s the one in which you build the team you are a fan as you would love to have it.

That´s the mode in which you should review if players do the same than in the real life. Because stats at the end of the season must be similar to the ones in real life.

The only thing I found that should be reviewed is how every player ends up assist wise. I think Rubio ended up being the leader of the league with 9.5 but Paul/Rondo/Vazquez had all between 7.5&8 which is low.

Love ended up with 11.5 rebounds which is also too low for him while I can´t score sometimes three pointers with him except if he tries corner 3´s. Which seems strange too.

But every other player ends up with similar stats to the reality which is the purpose I think of how they are built.

Something that I really hate is that by the end of the first season: Nash, Kidd, Billups, Allen among others (George Karl) retire. which is a disgrace for the game. At least I would love to have them in the game for 2 or 3 more yrs. Don´t you?

I will try all these extra game modes especially My Player in 2K14. And yea those stats are a bit off if the rosters are based on fully healthy players.

I'm starting to understand the problems with balancing the players actual individual skills with the overall statistics at the end of an association season.
I mean Griffin for example almost everyone sees him as a power player, but I've been watching him play for years and I know to be an excellent ball handler, so I would like to have the ability to be able to do what he is able to do in real life. But at the same time I understand now if his ball handling sliders were set to portray his actual ball handling skill... (something around 85) then we would see CPU Blake Griffin crossing people over all night long... although I assume this could be balanced with tendency sliders correct ?

Speaking off Blake and ball handling, was watching the Clippers destroy Pistons last night, and take a look at this... he does this almost on a nightly basis, but rarely goes all the way to the rim with it like he did here..... and I mean, the guy is rated I think around 70 for ball handling in the rosters I've looked at.... does this look like a 70 ?

Blake played a lot as a point guard before becoming the beast he is now...that´s why he has such a dribble...But as you said in NBA 2k13 it´s hard to improve the ratings without disrupting the flow of the game (reality wise) unless you ensure that the tendencies in which he will dribble won´t go up a lot to have this causing an awful issue. So yeah you may have that updated as you like without having A LOT OF negative impact.

Try playing @ Superstar level with the same settings, thats what i do and get some nice competitive games ;D

I haven't tried anything else above Alby's recommended setting of All Star..... I did however find one thing that increased my challenge in a very realistic manner. In 2K11 and 2K12 I felt that when you simply increased the difficulty the CPU just wins by cheesing more, and it would be unrealistic.
One thing with Alby's roster and his setting, all I would do is change the slider for Help Defense almost all the way down to about 10, and the other in the Controller Settings Option I would bring down the Defensive Assist Strength to 10 as well and switch it to manual.

What this would all do is it makes you be responsible for all the defensive decisions, basically defense is all up to you almost completely just in the same way as offense is.
This to me at least in my opinion is a very realistic way to kick up your difficulty because almost everything on both ends of the floor is entirely up to you.

am i the only one experiencing a bug where the game crashes whenever i try to play a game mode??

EDIT: i assumed it was any other game mode,but when i let it run a demo game everything was good,i couldn't play a game in mycareer now though..
EDIT AGAIN: i put my backup of my mycareer save w/o overwriting my original one and played that and i can now play games..damn..
