Lamrock's Blazers - Retired

Postby Lamrock on Fri Mar 01, 2013 5:27 am

Hello and welcome to my 2K13 Blazers story! This is a reboot/continuation of The New Jailblazers, which I had to end after switching consoles. However, this one picks up (more or less) from where it left off, and if you had a player in that, it's a part of this one. If anyone is interested in joining the 2014 draft class, send me a draft profile using the template on the next post.

Nice.

I will fill out a player form at some stage. Count me in for 2014. I plan to take being the number 1 pick away from Andrew Wiggins!

March 2013 Preview

Image

March will be a pivotal month for the Blazers franchise, as their playoff question will be answered. As it stands, the Blazers trail the Houston Rockets by four games for the eighth spot. However, all that can change with one last winning streak. The Blazers will open the month with their final game against struggling division rivals Minnesota.

The real test will be the three and five game road trips this month. Blazers fans may already be salivating at the prospect of a Nerlens Noel or Ben McLemore but the team has one last shot at a post-season run.

Blazers Rally To Beat Wolves, Sweep Season Series
3/2/2013 - Timberwolves 91 @ Trail Blazers 97

Image

What started as a shootout developed into a surprising grind-it-out affair with Portland ultimately coming out on top yet again. The Blazers couldn't seem to find their bearings offensively in the first half, but thanks to Kevin Love's struggles and Wesley Matthews' hot hand, they were able to hold a small halftime lead.

The Wolves came out of halftime on fire, hitting their first six shots and shutting down the Blazer offense. Minnesota took a small lead that they wouldn't cede until late in the fourth. A pivotal and-one by Damian Lillard sparked a late 14-4 run that put Portland up for good. After Aldridge, Hickson and Matthews did the heavy lifting to get them there, Lillard closed the game, having a hand in everything down the stretch as Portland played the foul game to a 97-91 victory.

The Blazers sweep their division rivals Minnesota in this season series. Brandon Roy made a rare appearance for the Wolves, receiving a mixed reception from the Rose Garden crowd. Roy had 7 points in 11 minutes of action. Portland improves to 27-31 with the win, keeping their increasingly slim playoff hopes alive. Minnesota meanwhile is resigned to a disappointing season after one injury after another.

I like this. I like this a lot. Just wondering, how are you planning to address portland's notoriously shallow bench? And also, as a side question, if you had to trade one of your three core players, who would it be?

Thanks dude and welcome to the forums! The bench will absolutely be addressed in the offseason but I'll use the rest of this one as an opportunity to see if any of the young players have anything to offer.

Lillard and aldridge are my two main building blocks. I'd deal Hickson or Batum for the right offer but it would have to be something good.

Thanks for the warm welcome! :D

It's funny how easy you can get Rudy from the Raps with a Batum + Scrub + 2nd Rounder, but since Rudy Gay is owed the same amount of money that Zimbabwe and Kenya make combined in one year, it's probably not a good idea. :P

Tough shit with the PS3. Seems like you can just continue it one the Xbox. I doubt you can still make the Playoffs with the Rockets being some games in front.

What gives me hope to make the playoffs is the exaggerated parity in 2K games. If the Rox and/or Warriors finish around .500, I like my chances. However, one injury with this roster pretty much ends things.

Next week is coming soon!

Have been busy for the last few days, but thing this is far from dead. Now that I'm using a real draft class, I'm re-booting the draft coverage.

2013 Draft Prospects: Part 1

Nerlens Noel (Kentucky)
C/PF - 6'11", 216 lbs | Age 19 | DRAFT STOCK: Proj. Top 3
Image An ACL injury may have cost Nerlens Noel the status of consensus #1 overall pick but Noel vows for a quick return, and made the risky decision to enter the draft. While extremely thin, Noel is the top defensive player in the draft, and has potential to be an elite Center.
BEST CASE SCENARIO: Tyson Chandler/Marcus Camby hybrid
WORST CASE: Anthony Randolph

Julian Martin (UCLA)
PF - 6'10", 245 lbs | Age 21 | DRAFT STOCK: Proj. Top 5
Image UCLA's Julian Martin has been a revelation for the UCLA Bruins this season, as he has emerged as an even bigger star than heralded teammate Shabazz Mohammed. While Martin may not go as high as Mohammed in the draft, he will likely be the best power forward to come out of the draft.
BEST CASE SCENARIO: Blake Griffin
WORST CASE: Josh McRoberts

Fresh Smith (North Carolina)
SG/PG - 6'0", 180 lbs | Age 19 | DRAFT STOCK: Proj. Mid Lottery
Image UNC's Fresh Smith is barely six feet tall but the popular Australia native took the NCAA by storm, scoring 15 points per game as the team's sixth man. Smith projects to be a SG in the NBA despite his size but is too talented for his tweener status to be a deal-breaker.
BEST CASE SCENARIO: rich man's Monta Ellis
WORST CASE: DeJuan Wagner

Martti Must (England)
SF - 6'6", 187 lbs | Age 19 | DRAFT STOCK: Proj. Mid-Late Lottery
Image England's Martti Must has impressed many in overseas play with his well-rounded game. While not a prolific scorer, Must does just about everything well on the court, and looks to be an elite role player. The only obstacle to Must becoming one of the league's elite defenders is his slight frame.
BEST CASE SCENARIO: Rich man's Shane Battier
WORST CASE: DeShawn Stevenson

Victor Oladipo (Indiana)
G/SF - 6'5", 210 lbs | Age 20 | DRAFT STOCK: Proj. Mid-First Rounder
Image Victor Oladipo has emerged as a top prospect in this year's draft, displaying serious athletic gifts and defensive talent. While his offensive game isn't much to talk about, teams are salivating over Oladipo's potential.
BEST CASE SCENARIO: Andre Iguodala
WORST CASE: Corey Brewer

March 3 - March 9, 2013

Portland currently sits 2.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff seed with 21 games still to play. Should their pick be #12 or better, they will keep it. If not, Charlotte will receive it.

Blazers Annihilate Lowly Bobcats
3/4/2013 - Bobcats 83 @ Trail Blazers 112

Behind huge games from Nicolas Batum and J.J. Hickson, Portland dominated Charlotte from start to finish en route to a 29 point win. Charlotte improves their lottery fortunes while Portland continues to push towards mediocrity.

CHA 39 18 10 16 | 83 [15-46] - K. Walker: 25 pts, 7 asts, 5 rebs; B. Gordon: 29 pts, 11-20 FG
POR 33 21 29 29 | 112 [28-31] - Batum: 25 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts; Hickson: 23 pts, 12 rebs; Lillard: 21 pts

Aldridge Overcomes Foul Trouble To Lead Portland To Surprise Win
3/6/2013 - Trail Blazers 87 @ Grizzlies 84

LaMarcus Aldridge picked up three quick fouls in the first quarter, and few expected the inconsistent Blazers to be competitive in Memphis. However, thanks to Wesley Matthews' hot shooting and some great Blazers D, Portland eked out a 40-38 lead at the half.

LaMarcus Aldridge returned in the third quarter to score 14 of his game-high 23 points. The Blazers looked to pull away early in the fourth, with Marc Gasol fouling out and the Grizzlies' defense stagnating. A timeout and some timely baskets got the home team back in the game, finding themselves down 85-84 with 15 seconds and the ball. Memphis got two tries at a shot to take the lead but no luck.

Damian Lillard sank a pair of free throws to increase the lead to three and Mike Conley airballed a three to try and send it to overtime. The Grizzlies fall to 39-20 while Portland keeps their playoff hopes alive at 28-31.

POR 23 17 27 20 | 87 [29-31] - Aldridge: 23 pts, 9-15 FG, 23 minutes; Lillard: 13 pts, 11 asts, 6 rebs; Matthews: 21 pts, 3-6 3pt
MEM 19 19 23 23 | 84 [39-20] - Z. Randolph: 21 pts, 15 rebs; Conley: 14 pts, 8 asts, 7 rebs; M. Gasol: 12 pts, 5 rebs, 6 fouls

Spurs Outduel Blazers In Fourth
3/8/2013 - Trail Blazers 84 @ Spurs 92

None of the Spurs' big three had huge games but thanks to solid defense and clutch execution, they defeated the Blazers 92-84. LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard had solid games with 22 and 15 points respectively, but the team was held to just 39% shooting from the field.

POR 21 22 24 17 | 84 [29-32] - Lillard: 15/7/8; Aldridge: 22/9/0; Hickson: 10/7/2 blks, 4-6 FG
SA 24 28 25 25 | 92 [49-14] - Parker: 16/2/7; Duncan: 14/12/3; Ginobili: 15/5/6

NBA HEADLINES

STAYING.

With the contract extension deadline looming, several teams have locked up their noteworthy stars. Borderline all-stars Al Jefferson and Josh Smith headline the pack.

Milwaukee gets an amazing value for the inefficient but talented scorer.

Nice win in Memphis despite the heavy odds. How did you get Aldridge to pick up three fouls in just the first quarter? :? I don't see the Rockets maintaining the eighth spot since 2K13's sim engine is pretty harsh on them from my experience, so there's your chance!
