Leftos wrote:Bucks don't seem to be good either from outside, nor in drawing fouls inside. Shouldn't be too hard for you to go up against them. Do they really have no proper Center? Is Drew Gooden the best they have? His numbers are terrible. Or is there a major injury?

I saw this earlier and I've updated the stats/tendencies of their players to match their recent performances (Sanders need a heavy boost to his blocking stat). I think the real problem is small sample size, though. Drew Gooden has actually been a monster for them off the bench looking at his numbers, but he's only playing 8 or so minutes per game. They have a decent line up at C, with Sanders and 4th pick Keller, then Gooden and Udoh on the bench. Udoh seems pissed now that he's got a reduced role. They've been giving Keller a starting position at C for the first 5 games, but expect Sanders to take up the starting role again and Keller to move to sixth man.

Durant35 wrote:Got blown by Portland eh.

You can't even call those proper numbers!

I thought our last game was terrible (we were lucky, really), but this game was worse! If this keeps going it's not gonna look pretty.

Leftos wrote:Yeah, just noticed the 24 and 26 turnovers. What the hell was going on there? And it's not like the teams were stealing the ball from each other (11 steals each) which would at least make it slightly exciting, it seems most of them were silly mistakes.

I wish I could say, but I'm worried this is a quirk of hoopcast/the simulation engine. Just can't get turnovers right! When I play games CPUvsCPU coaching I couldn't get the TOs high enough, usually 4-5 per team each game, but now they're too high! The league average for turnovers is 16.1, and ranges from 12.8 to 19 (we're 16.2). The actual NBA ranges from 11.5 to 16.4. I'll see if there are any sliders I can adjust, and if worst comes to worst, I'll have a wider look at how the ball security stat correlates to turnovers in the sim engine. Edit : ok, some quick research and sliders don't change the sim engine, will investigate further.

I did some really basic testing (with probably way-too-small sample sizes) and found that the biggest factor in team turnovers was offensive awareness, followed by passing. ball security had an effect as well. offhand dribbling & hands didn't have any effect as far as I could tell, but it could have been minute and I didn't have enough samples to detect it. The turnover totals were definitely too high across the board, and I made some rough mass-edits to my roster. In sims I got the team turnovers down to about 13-17 pg from 14.6-18.9. APG & PPG were universally a bit low as well, so it remedied that problem at the same time. Adjusting the stats any more would tip the balance too much and not have enough variety between players. Hopefully it works!

Pitar, contact slimm44 about things like that. AFAIK, he has studied the game unbelievably extensively, and knows pretty much everything when it comes to what factors into what in simulation and gameplay stats.

It was a showdown of familiar faces tonight in Milwaukee. Previous back-court team members Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings went head-to-head, while recently traded Aaron Brooks started for the Bucks.
Jennings put up 25 points and 4 boards, while Ellis scored 15 points on 54% shooting; both players made 7 dimes and 2 steals.
The crowds' reception of the reunion quickly turned sour as the game developed into a blow-out, and the Bucks' bench didn't let up. Chuck Hayes had a spectacular 13 minutes on the court, shooting 5-6 and bringing down 9 boards.

I didn't want to squeeze any more information under the picture, but I'd just like to point my finger towards Splitter's 7 offensive boards and, well, Robinson did a bit of everything.

Result:

Mavericks control second half, secure win; Greg Oden out with back injury

Image
Injury-plagued Greg Oden left today's game early with a back injury that may take him off the court for an estimated 2 months. The Mavericks have been cautious with Oden, only playing him for about 24 minutes per game. Oden has been rebounding at the fastest rate in the league so far (15.4 REB per 36 minutes), and the Mavericks have looked like a contention team with him on the court.

The SuperSonics also have front court injury woes. Both Tiago Splitter and 6th pick Jason Ford are both injured, and out for approximately 2 weeks. Tonight they played Robinson at centre, while recently traded John Henson started at power forward. Henson had a superb starting debut despite the team's loss, putting up a double-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds.

Game Notes: Brandon Jennings' 6 steals breaks his previous single-game record.

Just from the Matchup preview of the Mavs game, I was SURE it was going to be a good one. You were evenly matched in your best aspects, but losing Splitter obviously cost you the win.

Time to bounce back against the below-par Magic. It's obvious you can foul them as much as you'd like, just be wary of their blocking. Nicholson at Forward seems like a pretty big defensive threat.

Tyreke Evans intercepts the inbound pass to Jameer Nelson.

One of the most surprising stories of the beginning of the season is the SuperSonics. They're 7-2, 3rd in the western conference, and after tonight, 5-0 while playing at KeyArena.
Tyreke Evans was the key to their victory tonight, and has been a reliable 3rd scoring option for the SuperSonics and their early success.
His statistics have taken a dip across the board this season, however, and will Evans be content with his reduced role?

Detroit's first in the Eastern Conference? WOO FUCKING HOO! Can't wait to see you go up against them! And I'd love a Scouting Report on them and one or more of their best players when you get to that point.

Just you wait until Drummond returns. By the way, how prophetic was the 4-6 weeks injury with "Broken Back" compared to his real 4-6 weeks injury because of "Fractured Tailbone"? Spooky stuff!

DETROIT PISTONS - SCOUTING REPORT

Team Roster

PG: Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey
SG: Landry Fields, Kim English
SF: Andre Iguodala, Otto Porter, Khris Middleton, Kurt Kirkland
PF: Charlie Villanueva, Jonas Jerebko
C: Greg Monroe, Andrea Bargnani, Vyacheslav Kravtsov, Andre Drummond

===================================================

Pistons, the 4th strongest team in the league right now, after having played 8 games. Their record is currently at 6-2, putting them at #1 in their division and at #1 in their conference.

Although an average offensive team (they can't seem to remain consistent from both inside and outside the arc), they can get back at you with their efficiency from the line.

Scoring is not their virtue, but they're not that bad either. (#11 in FG%: 0.460 - #15 in FGeff: 16.09)
Not much to say about their 3pt shooting. Average, but it is there. (#16 in 3P%: 0.331 - #13 in 3Peff: 2.11)
They tend to attack the lanes hard, getting to the line and making the most of it. They're one of the best teams in the league at it. (#13 in FT%: 0.775 - #4 in FTeff: 18.70)
A team that seems to have some selfish players around, nobody really that efficient to carry the team into high percentages. (#16 in APG: 19.9)

Don't expect to get your score high against them. An elite defensive team, top 5 in points against them each night. (#5 in PAPG: 91.3)

They crash the boards as much as the next guy, but they won't give up any freebies. (#13 in RPG: 45.8, #21 in ORPG: 10.8, #10 in DRPG: 35.0)

Be careful dribbling and passing. They won't be much trouble once you shoot the ball, but the trouble is getting there. Great in steals. (#7 in SPG: 7.6, #26 in BPG: 3.3)
Not good ball handlers, and that's being polite. Bottom 10 in turnovers, they have work to do until they get their offense going. (#25 in TPG: 14.1, #19 in FPG: 17.9)

In summary, their best areas are free throws (#4, 24.1 per game on 0.775), points allowed per game (#5, 91.3), scoring (#7, 100.5), steals (#7, 7.6), defensive rebounds (#10, 35.0).

Thanks for the detailed scouting report; gotta love NST for picking the most important aspects of a team or a player and presenting it so nicely instead of having to go through all those numbers yourself! (<-- Shameless self-promotion there)

So the Pistons are good defensively, and Monroe is putting up great numbers. That's a nice recipe, but it won't hold them at the top of the conference for long, so you might be right. Small sample for now. Let's see how long this lasts for them, and what Drummond's like after his injury; can't expect the Pistons to remain so low in the blocks per game department after he returns.

How far ahead is your first encounter against Detroit? God I wish I could watch that game live! :P

Which part? I'm mostly just using open office calc and making spreadsheets. Actually, I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it (I'm new to it, isn't geared towards presentation). I get what data I can from Leftos' stat tracker so that once I've made the spreadsheets it's just a matter of taking screenshots and cropping... I'll admit, it's still taking me ages though. :( The whole season will be tough at this rate, but I'm hoping each update will be easier than the last once the process is all in place and I don't have to make any new tables.

Cheers, the the whole thing works great imo very well put together.

Actually, Pitar, at some point you might want to share your spreadsheet for others to use as a template or a starting point to create their own.
