Played the first half, then simmed the second. I've decided to sim the rest of the season as I can't play any more games. It just seems pointless.

I'm going to go through the season normally, but sim the games instead of playing them. I'll post summaries with like 5 games or something.

What a record for the team, lol. Expecting some changes in the roster, let's see what you can do.

Utah now has a very solid lineup, as for you, I think Favors and Patterson in the frontcourt would help this team at least a bit.

Five game summary - Dec 21-29

ImageImageImageImageImage

Washington finally recorded their first win of the season in Detroit. It seemed to give them confidence as they also beat the Cavs and Magic.
Newly acquired forward Derrick Favors has settled in nicely, averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game over the five game stretch.
Despite the slight turnaround in form, the Wizards still sit bottom of the eastern conference and still have the worst record in the league.

I've already made four trades this season, so I doubt I'll be doing any more. I only did this many because the first three were basically just salary clearing moves. The Favors one though was purely a basketball trade though.

mrmoves20 wrote:Utah now has a very solid lineup, as for you, I think Favors and Patterson in the frontcourt would help this team at least a bit.

I feel like everyone in that deal got what they wanted. I was thinking of getting Cousins, Monroe or Favors and the first two didn't seem right. Cousins doesn't have the type of personality that I want on this Wizards team (They just got rid of McGee etc.) and Monroe is worth too much to the Pistons I feel.
Loving my young core of Wall, Favors, Beal and Patterson. Not sure they can be as good as Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka though. We'll see. :)

Anyway, how does the five game summary look? I wanted to do it so there is enough information, but so that it doesn't take too much time to write up.

Looks fine to me. Can't blame you for wanting to sim, though if you do want to play I'd recommend getting in some more exhibition games in until you're a little more used to the game, or dropping the difficulty down a level.

1/1/13

December 2012 Summary

ImageImageImageImageImage

Philadelphia continued to set the pace in the eastern conference during December, whilst the Thunder took top spot out west from the Clippers.
Two teams seemingly reaping the benefits of early seasons trades are the Bucks and Rockets. Both moved up into the playoff spots this month.
On the other end of the scale is San Antonio. They only won a dismal four out of fifteen games and are now rooted to bottom place in the west.
There was some positive news in Washington though, with the Wizards grabbing their first win of the season. Followed by two more shortly after.
They came after the Wizards were involved in a three-team trade which landed them Derrick Favors and also saw star Eric Gordon move to Utah.
It was also a big month for contract extensions. Andrew Bynum, Josh Smith, Kevin Martin, Manu Ginobili and Tyreke Evans just a few who signed.

I was conflicted about the simming, but I just want to get through this first season and get my roster into better shape. I'll most likely be playing every game from next season onwards.

I didn't want to lower the difficulty because I thought my results would get better eventually. I guess it's just a stupid pride thing; I was pretty good on the toughest difficulty on Live 10 and just expected to be decent enough on this game. But I don't have the same level of talent in my team on this game or the experience of hours and hours of playing time. I'll just have to put some more time in and work on my rebounding and finding better ways to score.

I found it pretty funny that I won the first game I simmed.

At least you avoided the Cavs 23 game losing streak and I think the Bobcats had 25 last year

Calm down, he'll be fine in time for the playoffs. :) Thunder are top in the west even without him.

I guess. Shame I couldn't stop the losing streak myself though. It's nice to have a different number in wins column, now.

January 2013 Summary

ImageImageImageImageImage

As we passed the halfway mark of the season, both conferences are really tight at the top. The Thunder and 76ers still remain on top though.
But the Heat, Bulls and Pacers in the east and Clippers and Lakers in the West are still very much keeping pace, only a couple of games back.
The Nuggets and Grizzlies pulled themselves up into the playoff spots, with the Timberwolves not far from pulling off the same move as well.
In the east meanwhile it was the Knicks who made the biggest move. They won 8 of their 13 games and moved up into the prized eighth seed.
There has been injury concerns for the two finals favourites, with the Heat missing Chris Bosh, Ray Allen and Mario Chalmers for several games.
Whilst the Thunder were without scoring machine Kevin Durant for the whole month. He is expected to return from his knee injury next month.

I just now realised that Patrick Patterson was born in Washington, D.C. :P Nice coincidence that I included him in the Nene trade.

Rumour: Rudy Gay being shopped around the league

Image

It's the worst kept secret in the league this season. The Grizzlies need to dump Rudy Gay's massive contract to avoid luxury tax issues next year.
Despite being seventh seed in the western conference, Memphis could be forced to make a trade in the coming weeks due to financial concerns.
One of their big contracts will have to go to reduce future luxury tax hits, which are more severe under the new collective bargaining agreement.
That means that either Zach Randolph or Rudy Gay need to be offloaded before next season. It seems Gay will be easier to move due to his age.
The Grizzlies are currently about $4 million above the tax line this season and that number will massively increase if they don't make this move.
Their core of Gay, Randolph, Gasol and Conley will earn about $58m over each of the next two seasons, so it makes sense to explore trade deals.
Gay is set earn over $37m in the next two years, and while he's a good player with scoring abilities, it's hard to argue that he's worth that much.

There are several teams that have reportedly at least discussed the possibility of acquiring Gay. Specifically the Clippers, Celtics and Wizards.
Apparently the Celtics would be looking to move Paul Pierce for Gay, whilst the Clippers are discussing a deal built around veteran Caron Butler.
Los Angeles also has veteran guys like Lamar Odom, Chauncey Billups and Ronny Turiaf on expiring deals. They could all do a job for Memphis.
But Memphis probably won't want to help a western conference rival get even stronger, as it's hard enough as it is to make the playoffs right now.
The idea of adding Pierce probably won't be of interest them too much either. He has a year less on his deal, but only saves them $3m next year.
Boston have no expiring contracts to add to any deal though. Which may prove to be a big stumbling block as they are what Memphis really need.

One team who could be a dark horse in the chase for Gay is Washington. They have a bunch of expiring contracts which could tempt the Grizzlies.
They could decide to accelerate their rebuild project by securing one of the top forwards in the league. It may cost them a top free agent though.
Acquiring Gay would make a substantial dent in their 2013 cap room. It would be interesting to see if they would sacrifice most of it just for Gay.
They may feel that he is better than the majority of the available upcoming free agents and pull the trigger. It could be a smart move in the end.

Most would agree that Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are more valuable players than Gay. Perhaps even Paul Millsap and Andre Iguodala are as well.
Sacramento will almost certainly exercise their option on DeMarcus Cousins, whilst Monta Ellis and OJ Mayo may well take up their player options.
There aren't too many big names left available in the free agent class after those guys. The Wizards won't be the most attractive destination either.
Washington want to build a playoff calibre team as soon as possible and doing a deal like this may just get them to their goal a year or so early.

Adding one of the best forwards in the league, who is still only 26 year old, would be a great coup for the long-suffering Wizards and their fans.
The three spot is one that they will be aiming to upgrade during the off-season. They've got two youngsters in both their front and backcourts.
Now they just need a scoring swingman who can handle the ball and create his own shot to really become a team capable of making the playoffs.
Gay is having a very good season so far. His numbers are above his career averages. 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game isn't too shabby.
With him on the team the pressure on John Wall and Bradley Beal would be reduced and they could concentrate more of their own development.

Memphis would surely try to include Bradley Beal or the Wizards' 2013 first round pick in any deal. It's unlikely that either will be available though.
Washington only have to wait until the trade deadline though. If the Grizzlies are desperate enough they will likely accept any offer on the table.
If Wizards GM Steve Kerr manages to pull this big move off, he will have effectively swapped Nene, Okafor and Ariza for Gay, Patterson and Favors.
Not a bad result for his first few months in the job. His next big test will be who to select with the top lottery pick that they are likely to receive.
A lot of people are touting UCLA guard Shabazz Muhammad as the top prospect. But the Wizards won't need him if they decide to trade for Gay.
It's more likely that they will target one of the top rated big men in the draft. Someone like Cody Zeller or Nerlens Noel would fit their team nicely.

A deal for Gay could be based around expiring veteran Corey Maggette. He is averaging 12 points and 5 rebounds since his move from Detroit.
He would be a handy replacement for the Grizzlies for the rest of the season. They may look to offload Randolph next season to re-tool further.
Washington also have Michael Redd, Donte Greene, Daequan Cook, Kenyon Martin, Dominic McGuire and Roger Mason who are on expiring deals.
The first round pick they acquired from Houston in the Nene trade could be used as a sweetener and may be the best deal the Grizzlies can get.

Another thing seemingly in the Wizards' favour is that Gay is a local from the Baltimore area. He played in youth summer league games in D.C.
Returning to the Mid-Atlantic region may feel like a good move for him, putting him closer to his family. He also attended college in Connecticut.

There are only three weeks left until the trade deadline. No doubt there will be rumours flying around during the all-star weekend in Houston.
Gay will be hoping that the Grizzlies have a resolution to this situation as quickly as possible so that he can return to just playing basketball.

Some big names in 2013 free agency class

Image

The Larry O'Brien Trophy isn't the only prize on offer every season. Superstar free agent signings can be just as good for some teams.
They can change the fortunes of a franchise for years to come. They can turn a struggler into a contender or a contender into a dynasty.
You only have to look at what Miami have accomplished in recent years to understand how important off-season deals can be for a team.
Two finals appearances and one championship in the two years since signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh to play alongside Dwyane Wade.

2013 could be another big off-season, with several top players potentially being available and several teams possessing significant cap room.
Atlanta, Cleveland, New Orleans and Washington could all be big players. They will all have over $20m to spend, depending on who they re-sign.
Having cap room doesn't guarantee top signings though. Things like location, team direction and players on the team all sway a player's decision.
If a team are in a small market and aren't historically a winning franchise, they aren't going to be the most appealing option to most free agents.

Most eyes will be on Dwight Howard and Chris Paul to see which team they decide to spend what will probably be the rest of their careers with.
It's still not an unrealistic possibility that the pair decide to pull their own version of Miami's big three and team up together on the same team.
At the moment though only Washington and Cleveland could afford such a move, but they are both in the middle of youth-orientated rebuilds.
Obviously both would love to land Howard. But each already has their own promising point guard and would find it hard to fit Paul in their team.
The Cavs could look at trading veteran center Anderson Varejao to a contender at the deadline or even on draft night and free up an extra $9m.

A lot of rumours this season have suggested that the Thunder could be interested. Even the Clippers were said to be in discussions at one point.
Without Varejao's deal Cleveland and Washington would both have the equal lowest wage bill heading into the free agent period, at just $23m.
It's not as simple as some video games would have you believe, but you can build a very nice roster with $37m in hand to lure some star players.
Some of the bigger names who could opt-out of the final years of their contracts include guards Monta Ellis, OJ Mayo, Andre Iguodala and JR Smith.
Any one of those four could give a team a very nice scoring option. Ellis in particular is always amongst the top scorers in the league each season.

Good updates and heck, your team is bad. You really should start with a lower difficulty setting nevertheless in the next season. Pride is one thing, but not being competitive because of the game rather than the roster (you could steal a win here and there with Wall) is something different.

Apart from that, I like your detailed updates. One thing: the centered text is weird to read for me. But maybe thats only me.

Nice preview of the Free Agents. Would be nice if you could steal Dwight from the Lakers. A Dwight/Favors/Patterson big rotation would be nice.

Like how Favors is playing for you. Was a good trade IMO

I'll be playing every game next season so I'll have to 'find my level' before I get to that point. Hopefully with a couple of good additions in the off-season and it'll help me as well. I'm competitive in games when I play, but my starters get tired because of their age and then my reserves just suck.

I've never really thought above the centered text thing. It always just made sense to me because to me it looks good to have everything lined up.

He is the prime target I guess. No doubt he would turn this team into a contender in a weaker eastern conference. I'm not his biggest fan IRL though so we'll see what happens at the end of the season.

Favors seems to be a double-double machine in the making for sure. Really happy to gave him on my team. :)

Forgot to mention that I'm going to play both the rising stars game and the all-star game. I'll be controlling the team that has Beal on it and the eastern all-stars. It will be weird because the previous 8 all-star games I've played have been using the western team.
