Alby's and I have had some discussion on a collaboration project. So far, we haven't been able to figure out how to do it. It's easier when there is one person contributing one aspect to the roster. However, we both edit pretty much everything the roster contains. Figuring out how to share evenly is somewhat difficult.

If you've never edited a roster from top to bottom, every rating/tendency/hot spot/playbook/coaching profile/etc, it's impossible to know how much time, energy, effort, and investment goes into it. It basically becomes a second job.

Hopefully, we can figure something out.

What makes this mod “sim”? Here are a few of the features that set this project apart from all others:

- Every art file (jerseys, arenas, cyberfaces, accessories, courts, dornas (advertisement at half court), etc is realistic and none will crash game play
- There is no missing art file in the entire project

Every player in every roster has:
- Accurate statistical ratings and tendencies to work with 2k's simulation engine while still providing realistic game play
- Realistic ratings and tendencies that affect game play but not the simulation engine ie dribbling, athletic ratings, post tendencies, etc.
- Realistic physical attributes that decrease after major injuries or as the player gets older
- Accurate play types
- Accurate contracts

- Accurately updated Coaching profiles and playbooks

- Draft classes that have realistic player information for every player

- A few slider sets designed to be a base for realistic game play

You are both masters of making roster patches. Maybe its best that we have two amazing rosters to choose from, since it really would be difficult to make the colaboration work because as you said you both have your own ways and you edit all by yourself... Big praise to both of you! (Y) (Y)

Yeah, the edits slimm44 and Albys do collide, there's not much they could contribute to each other. They're editing the same stuff in different ways, so as I see it right now, it's better the way it is right now. More choice is always a good thing. Once REDitor comes out, maybe it'll be easier to copy over some edits that slimm44 doesn't really bother with, such as accessories and colors and shoes and whatever, if the rest of the community doesn't help him on them.

Although, as I said in Podcast #11, I'm really glad to see so many people not only excited with slimm44's work, but also willing to contribute.

It's been awesome to have people offer to help with accessories/colors/shoes. I simply don't do that stuff, but once it's done, it makes the game look MUCH better.

Update:

All of the Accessories have been updated and the file has been passed on so the shoes can be edited.
I've also edited the Hot Spots to make them realistic from Philly through Atlanta.
Playbooks are done from Philly through Miami.
Playtypes have been reassigned from Philly through Dallas.

Leftos, any luck on the Hot Zones? I saw you ran into some difficulties in your editor thread.

slimm44, no luck yet. They're either spread all over the Player Entry instead of a nice, contiguous area, or something else happens which makes them hard to research. Only someone with knowledge of their binary data in 2K12 could help right now the way I see it, or someone getting lucky with research.

@ M3r$uRy - Don't worry, I won't release a roster that doesn't have all teams edited evenly. I may not edit the ENTIRE roster file every release, but I won't release it with only some Playbooks done, etc.

@ Leftos - No problem. I can wait for REDitor to come out. It shouldn't be much longer.

Will you make your roster compatible with the latest online data (alternate and Xmas jerseys) ?

slimm44, you'll be able once REDitor is out and you can change and add jersey assignments to teams.

Thank you. I am gong to go ahead and finish playbooks, play types, and hot spots before the shoe edits. Id rather have the gameplay as tight as possible before the shoes get done. The playbooks are an absolute gamechanger.

How long do you think it will take?

I think this work takes 1 or 2 days more or less, but it depends of the free time that does Mattan have.

PS: Mattan, as I said in this thread, I have an excel sheet which have gear colors divided by arms and legs, headband and wristbands, jersey by jersey. This can't be 100% accurate, but it's helpful. If you are interested, tell me and i will translate it and send to you.

Why exactly are Kobe's Offensive and Defensive Awarenesses THAT low? That makes him worse than Gasol!

The individual ratings that hurt his overall rating the most are Offensive Awareness and Defensive Awareness. These ratings affected the Overall Rating by a total of 18 points combined, or 9 points for each attribute. The way that I determine these ratings are by looking at a player's last 3 seasons and for Offensive Awareness, adding the average of Offensive Rating and Offensive Win Shares together. For Defensive Awareness, I take the average of Defensive Rating and subtract Defensive Win Shares from it. The scale that I use looks like this:

Offensive Awareness (Offensive Rating+Offensive Win Shares)

123 - 95
118 - 85
113 - 75
108 - 65
103 - 55
98 - 45
93 - 35
88 - 25

Defensive Awareness (Defensive Rating-Defensive Win Shares)

90 - 95
94 - 85
98 - 75
102 - 65
106 - 55
110 - 45
115 - 35
120 - 25

Kobe is a below-average on-ball and help defender. His Defensive Rating average of the past 3 seasons has been 105 and he has averaged 3 Defensive Win Shares per season. This gives him a Defensive Awareness Rating of 65.

He is an Isolation-based player, a volume-scorer, and has a low EFG% of 47% over the past 3 seasons. What that means is he takes a lot of low-percentage shots. His Offensive Rating average of the past 3 seasons has been 108 and he has averaged 5 Offensive Win Shares per season. This gives him an Offensive Awareness Rating of 75.

In his prime, which he is nowhere near, he had 8 out of 9 seasons where he would have had a 95 in Offensive Awareness. His career high for Defensive Awareness would have been a 75. He has always been highly overrated on the defensive end of the court.

Feel free to look at the Editing Guide in the first post. I explained why I use the scales I do, how I came to them and how they effect the sim-engine.

Considering Player Progression and that I can no longer use stats to calculate ratings, how would I go about fixing the 3PT tendencies that grow too much in big guys starting with Season 2? Any ideas, slimm44?

The patch is supposed to fix that issue, but who knows when it will be released.

One way would be to copy all 4's and 5's into a spreadsheet, along with their 3PT Tendency. When you get into future years of Associations, simply copy/paste them into your Association file. I would think the only thing you would need to account for would be retirements. You could do the same thing for rookies as they get drafted.

What I've done with past 2k's is copy/paste ALL shooting/freelance tendencies for all players using the method I just mentioned. In real life, players' shot by location "tendencies" vary slightly, and it is almost entirely based on the role they have with their team/additional players added/signing with a new team.

Okay, so carry over 3PT tendencies from season to season. Got it.

FYI - I have 5 more teams' playbooks to edit and they will all be done. I will release it when finished but will have a few more updates coming up quickly. The remaining edits include:

*In this order*

Accessory Colors (Done by Mattan - Big Thanks!) (1-2 days of Playbook Edits being done)
Freelance Tendencies (Should be released within 1-2 days of Accessory Colors being done)
Hot Spots (Will take at least another week, if not a few weeks if I still want to do them)
Hot Zones (Will probably wait for REDitor) (not sure how long this will take)

I do not plan on doing any player transactions until the Trade Deadline, so the players assigned to rosters will be as they were on the Opening Day roster.
