WEEK THIRTEEN: 1/21 - 1/27
Record: 21-22 (2-1) | 5th in division, 10th in conference

It was another solid week for the Trail Blazers as they stretched their winning streak to four games, before falling back below .500 with a sobering loss to the Clippers. Nonetheless, Portland's positioning in the playoff picture is looking better by the day, and they stand just a half game behind the Jazz for eighth place.

Batum Goes Down Blazers Defeat Wizards
1/21/2013 - Wizards 108 @ Blazers 113

Blazer fans were biting their nails when forward Nicolas Batum went down with a bruised sternum late in the fourth. Luckily, it was just that and the Blazers were able to eke out their third straight victory with a win over the Washington Wizards. Portland led for most of the game, but a spirited run led by John Wall made it competitive late. However, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, Terry and Lillard all had at least 19 points as Portland wins it 113-108.

WAS 30 20 32 26 | 108 [15-24] - Wall: 24/3/10; Nene: 13/6/1; Jordan Crawford: 15/2/2
POR 24 36 33 20 | 113 [20-21] - Lillard: 19/7/9; Matthews: 24/2/3; Aldridge: 20/8/1

Blazers Rout Struggling Pacers To Hit .500
1/23/2013 - Pacers 98 @ Blazers 123

Portland improves to 21-21 and 3-0 post-trade with a blowout win over the Indiana Pacers. The game was never even close as Portland led 70-54 at half, and never looked back. Nicolas Batum and Damian Lillard had huge games while free agency signing Gerald Green was the only player who showed up for the Pacers, who are in danger of following up last season's playoff run with a lottery finish as they are 18-26 at the halfway mark.

IND 28 26 19 25 | 98 [18-26] - G. Green: 23/5/1; Granger: 19/6/0; George: 13/7/3
POR 31 39 24 29 | 123 [21-21] - Lillard: 28/2/13, 12-17 FG; Batum: 32/5/0; Aldridge: 16/8/1

Nothing But The Blake Show As Blazers Win Streak Ends At 4
1/26/2013 - Clippers 112 @ Blazers 93

Image

The Clippers got off to a fast start and the Blazers never recovered. Blake Griffin had 34 points and 14 rebounds while Chris Paul had 22 and 12 in the 112-93 blowout win. Despite solid outings from Batum and Terry, the game was never very close. LaMarcus Aldridge struggled throughout, posting a decent line but on 4-17 shooting from the field.

The Blazers fall to 21-22 with the loss, keeping them a half game behind the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns for the 8th and final spot in the playoff picture. The Clippers meanwhile improve to 27-18, putting them in fourth place. These two teams will play each other tomorrow night but at Staples. A win in Portland has got to be a good sign for Clippers fans.

LAC 38 25 17 32 | 112 [27-18] - Griffin: 34/14/0; Paul: 22/5/12; Billups: 20/1/1, 5-7 FG
POR 22 23 25 23 | 93 [21-22] - Batum: 22/9/0; Terry: 17/0/3, 6-9 FG; Aldridge: 15/8/1

Players of the Month:
WEST: Jeremy Lin (HOU) | EAST: LeBron James (MIA)
Rookies of the Month:

Race To The MVP

Image 1. LeBron James: 25 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 6.4 APG, 2.1 SPG (Heat: 31-11)
LeBron is the best player on the best team in the league, and is probably also the league's best player.
Image 2. Jrue Holiday: 18.4 PPG, 8.6 APG, 4.5 RPG, 2.2 SPG (76ers: 32-13)
The Sixers are the hottest team in the league, and the much improved Jrue Holiday has been the catalyst for their success.
Image 3. Deron Williams: 22.4 PPG, 9 APG, 4 RPG (Nets: 27-19)
Williams is having a huge season for the resurgent Brooklyn Nets.
Image 4. Kevin Durant: 25.6 PPG, 8.2 RPG (Thunder: 28-18)
Oklahoma City has underachieved a bit this season, but you can't blame Durant, who has had yet another great year.
Image 5. Tim Duncan: 19 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.8 APG (Spurs: 29-19)
It's been a renaissance year for Duncan, who is still nearly putting up 20 and 10 for the immortal Spurs.
6. Dwyane Wade: 24.7 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4 APG (Heat: 31-11)
Wade would be a real MVP contender if not for the fact that the favorite is on his team.
7. Kevin Love: 25.3 PPG, 11.3 RPG (Timberwolves: 25-17)
The Wolves appear to be ending their league leading eight season playoff drought, and the always-dominant Kevin Love has been the catalyst.
8. Derrick Rose: 22 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4.3 RPG (Bulls: 30-16)
Rose surprised all by returning early from injury, and he has the Bulls rolling again.
9. Chris Paul: 17.3 PPG, 7.7 APG, 5.3 RPG, 2.3 SPG (Clippers: 28-19)
The Clippers are still in play for the top seed and Paul has been the reason why, putting in another phenomenal season.
10. Carmelo Anthony: 26.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 3.3 APG (Knicks: 22-21)
The Knicks have struggled all season with injuries, but Melo has been the rock, leading the league in scoring and carrying the Knicks above water.

Still not far off the playoffs. Really need to string together a few wins in a row to move up the pack. Very closely contested there in the West, where as the East is a bit more open.

Cannot believe that Pacers-76ers trade!!

Wow, you rank Holiday at 2nd? I mean, maybe it also has sth to do with Bynum. Apart from that, you made some steps, only 2 1/2 games behind, that is okay. How did the Mavs get Hansbrough? They seem to struggle just like I do, but I guess they have Dirk.

Good to see this one going fast. Loving it.

On the outside looking in. You should be able to make a run in to the playoffs with newly acquired Terry. Hawes and Hibbert frontcourt for the Pacers?? Crazy. You need to get Aldridge in to the top 10 for the MVP race. Start putting up some fat numbers. Overall, good job brother. Keeping the Blazers semi-relivent when they were starting to plummet.

hova-, I used the game's MVP race for the top 5 nominees and went from there. Holiday has a solid case though. Hansbrough meanwhile was swapped for Dahntay Jones and signed to an extension.

February is up next. Are the Blazers done dealing? Is L.A. an all-star? Does Portland suck all along?

Clippers Edge Blazers In Overtime
1/27/2013 - Blazers 95 @ Clippers 96 [OT]

The score was much closer but the result was ultimately the same as the Clippers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers for the second straight night. The Clippers got huge nights from their two superstars and overcame a fourth quarter Portland run to win in OT. The win improves the Clippers to 28-18, while Portland falls to 21-23.

POR 26 15 23 22 9 | 95 [21-23] - Aldridge: 16/15/5 blks; Lillard: 16/3/9; Matthews: 20/5/1
LAC 25 24 25 12 10 | 96 [28-18] - Griffin: 28/13/5; Paul: 14/3/12; C. Butler: 14/6/2

Mavericks Upset Blazers In Portland
1/29/2013 - Mavericks 108 @ Blazers 101

The Dallas Mavericks came into the Rose Garden ready to play. Two teams both on the outside looking in of the playoff picture, the Mavericks dominated for most of the game before holding off the Blazers to win it 108-101. The win improves Dallas to 20-25, three games behind eighth place Phoenix; while Portland falls to 21-24, two games behind the Suns.

DAL 28 22 36 22 | 108 [20-25] - Marion: 16/7/2; Mayo: 21/1/5; Kaman: 16/5/2
POR 24 20 25 32 | 101 [21-24] - Aldridge: 22/14/1; Matthews: 20/2/3; Lillard: 19/7/3

Jefferson-less Jazz Blown Out By 40 At Home
2/2/2013 - Blazers 112 @ Jazz 72

Without leading scorer and potential all-star Al Jefferson out, some thought the Blazers just might have a chance against the Jazz in Utah. How right they were. The Jazz offense was flat from the start, while it seemed like everything was falling for Portland. A tremendous first half put the Blazers up 48-30 at intermission.

In the third quarter, LaMarcus Aldridge went to work, scoring 14 of his 27 in the pivotal third quarter, in which the Blazers made 83% (15-18) of their shots and put the game out of reach. Luther Head debuted for the Blazers, scoring 4 points and grabbing 3 rebounds in just 6 minutes of garbage time. The Blazers leapfrog the Jazz in the standings to improve to 22-24, but must play this team again tomorrow at the Rose Garden.

POR 22 26 36 28 | 112 [22-24] - Lillard: 22/5/7; Aldridge: 27/7/1; R. Price: 11/3/4
UTA 15 15 23 19 | 72 [22-25] - Marvin Williams: 12/6/2; Burks: 10/3/2; Millsap: 6/7/0

Blazers Take Second Game Of Back-To-Back In Nailbiter
2/3/2013 - Jazz 98 @ Blazers 102

Utah scored more points in the first quarter than they did in the entire first half of last night's game against Portland, but unfortunately, it was still not enough. Still missing the injured Al Jefferson, the Jazz managed to get solid games from also-rans Randy Foye and Josh Howard, but a late fourth quarter comeback and huge game from Aldridge sealed the win for Portland, as they send their division rivals. Portland moves within a game-and-a-half of 8th place, while Utah falls to 12th place.

UTA 32 26 24 16 | 98 [22-26] - J. Howard: 20/7/2; Foye: 21/1/2; Mo Williams: 11/6/7
POR 23 27 28 24 | 102 [23-24] - Aldridge: 27/10/1; Batum: 15/8/3; Lillard: 15/6/6

You're sneaking in there. Only 2.5 games behind, I think you can still manage to get into the Playoffs. The question is: Does it help you to get there? I don't see you beating OKC or LAC which would leave you being stuck in mediocrity. A high draft pick would be very important if you ask me. Maybe you can trade for one, but this would mean giving away Batum as your only "star" player that seems tradeable.

Apart from that, the 76ers are streaking - Holiday for MVP ;)

All-Star starters look about right (although, I'm surprised Love made it in over Blake). You're having a pretty good season as well. I hope you can get at least an 8th seed and attempt to surprise the Thunder in the first round.

You're close to the 8th seed which is good but I don't see the point about being the 8th after half of the season because the west top teams are really good so I think it would be better in that situation to go for high pick like hova said, but we will see what you do. :D Jrue should be starting for the east allstars (N)

Love Leads Wolves Past Blazers
2/4/2013 - Blazers 84 @ Timberwolves 89

Thanks to 24 points and 19 boards from Kevin Love, the Wolves held off the Trail Blazers to pick up the win. Aldridge and Lillard did all they could to keep Portland in the game but the shots weren't falling from outside. "We live by the three and die by the three. That needs to change," commented Blazer coach Terry Stotts. Portland falls to 23-25 with the loss.

Damian Lillard had 22 points and a career high-tying 16 assists, while Aldridge and Matthews also sported monster lines as the Blazers had control from start to finish, defeating the Mavericks 104-93. After a tied first quarter, hot shooting from Wesley Matthews and Damian Lillard gave Portland a double digit lead early on. With O.J. Mayo and Darren Collison taking all the shots for Dallas, Dirk was held to 8 points.

Dallas managed to stay in the game throughout courtesy of a -9 turnover advantage. However, LaMarcus Aldridge went to work late, while Wesley Matthews couldn't miss from outside as the Blazers defeat the Mavericks 104-93. The loss may signal a move from the Mavs at the trade deadline, as they likely face missing the playoffs for the first time in 13 seasons. The Blazers meanwhile continue to fight to stay in the race for the final playoff seed, improving to 24-25.

POR 22 30 24 28 | 104 [24-25] - Lillard: 22/4/16; Matthews: 22/7/6, 8-11 FG, 4-4 3pt
DAL 22 23 25 23 | 93 [22-27] - D. Collison: 19/2/14; Mayo: 24/2/3; Nowitzki: 8/9/5, 3-7 FG

Blazers Hold Off Shorthanded Rockets
2/8/2013 - Blazers 111 @ Rockets 107

The Blazers seized an opportunity to get back to .500 on the road with a win over the shorthanded Houston Rockets. Without starting wings James Harden and Chandler Parsons, the Rockets were dominated in the first quarter, courtesy of 16 first quarter points from reserve small forward James Posey. They played catch-up from there, but managed to go into the half down just 7.

The second half was a shoot-out, but the Rockets never managed to actually take the lead, trailing since Portland scored their first points. The Rockets made it close late in the fourth, but timely buckets from a still-hobbled Nic Batum locked up the victory. The Blazers now stand at 25-25, a game and a half behind the 27-24 Suns. Houston meanwhile faces yet another lottery season as the injury to Harden likely kills their playoff hopes.

POR 33 20 28 30 | 111 [25-25] - Lillard: 24/6/8; Aldridge: 20/9/2; Posey: 19/4/0, 5-7 3pt
HOU 22 24 28 33 | 107 [24-28] - Douglas: 27/7/7; Lin: 13/1/11; R. White: 14/4/1

LaMarcus Aldridge Snubbed From All-Star Game

2/9/2013 - The all-star reserves were announced and Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was not one of them. The 2012 all-star averaged 21.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the surprising 25-25 Blazers, but was passed up, much like in 2011. Among notable first-timers are guards Jeremy Lin, Brandon Jennings, Goran Dragic and Jrue Holiday.

The most questionable choice is forward Rudy Gay, who has had a good, not great season for the 17-33 Grizzlies. However, other than that, this year's selections have been relatively unscrutized. The 2013 All-Star teams are as follows:

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest Participants

Blake Griffin returns to the dunk contest after a year off and will be an overwhelming favorite. Fans will get to see what gimmicks he has to offer this year. Defending champion Jeremy Evans will face Mavs teammate Jared Cunningham in the contest. Meanwhile, resurgent Kings forward Terrence Williams rounds out the selections.

Blake Griffin (LAC) - 2011 champion
Jared Cunningham (DAL)
Jeremy Evans (DAL) - defending champion
