Re: Thunder [62-16] - Durant & Rose combine for 100+ again

Postby Phil89 on Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:22 pm

Well 3/5 of their starters were sitting on the bench, so it was a bit easier for me late on. They did still have Kobe in the game though.

I think Rose is making a late push to challenge Durant for MVP as well.

My final game is against Phoenix. Interestingly they are one of 2-3 teams that could finish 8th and face me in the first round of the playoffs.

Re: Thunder [63-18] - Thunder looking shaky as season nears

Couple of surprising losses there, but sometimes the way it goes late in the season when more important games are looming. It'll certainly be interesting if you do end up facing the Suns in the first round after playing them in the regular season finale, though regardless of what happens there I suggest you'll prevail in the postseason.

Unlucky, but it makes for a good story at the same time. Not the form you wanted heading into the postseason, but I anticipate it won't matter when the games begin.

Well at least it will make the first round series against them interesting knowing that they can beat me at home.

I was kind of hoping that Memphis would grab the eighth seed so I could face Gay, Mayo, McGee etc. Plus I feel like I've faced the Suns in the playoffs a lot over my two dynasties. Oh well.

Awards

Most Valuable Player
Image
30.3 PPG - 13.3 RPG - 1.5 APG - 2.5 BPG - 1.1 SPG

Chris Bosh was supposed to be the third option for the Heat behind LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Now he's won back-to-back MVP's.
The former Raptor finished third in scoring and rebounding in the league this season. He will be key for the Heat in their title hopes.

Most Improved Player
Image
5.7 PPG - 12.0 RPG - 0.7 APG - 2.3 BPG - 0.6 SPG

Fourth-year center Benjamin Morgan has had a breakout season. The 22 year old 7ft2 monster has established himself as an NBA calibre center.
He's been so good that the Spurs decided to give him the starting role and trade former all-star Al Horford to the Clippers for Serge Ibaka.

Defensive Player of the Year
Image
35.3 PPG - 3.9 RPG - 1.7 APG - 1.4 BPG - 2.8 SPG

Some people find it surprising that the scoring champion could be the defensive player of the year as well. But this is Durant's fifth straight award.
He led the league in steals for the fifth straight season and played a vital role in the Thunder's defensive structure alongside Blake Griffin.

Rookie of the Year
Image
7.8 PPG - 11.4 RPG - 0.6 APG - 2.5 BPG - 0.7 SPG

The rookie of the year award has been won by the top draft pick for the fourth season in a row. George Marshall of the 76ers is a worthy winner.
He has been a bright spot for Philadelphia during their miserable season. They finished with the third worst record in the league this season.

Sixth man of the Year
Image
14.8 PPG - 5.4 RPG - 2.4 APG - 1.8 BPG - 1.1 SPG

Marvin Williams has been trying to live up to his status as a second overall pick since he was drafted in 2005. He was in excellent form this season.
He helped the rebuilt Cavs finish third in a super-competitive conference after years of struggling. His title win with the Thunder has helped him.
His current deal with Cleveland expires at the end of the season. It's likely this award will help him justify asking for a new long-term deal.

Coach of the Year
Image
Erik Spoelstra - Miami Heat
Win Percentage - 79.268 - Home - 30-11 - Away - 35-6

Despite four successive finals losses to the Thunder, Erik Spoelstra has guided his team to the best record in the league this season.
He may have lost one of his 'big three', but he got his new players integrated seamlessly and will be confident of finally winning a title.

Re: OKC - Playoffs [0-0] - 2014 Season Summary

Postby Andrew on Thu Nov 22, 2012 8:12 pm

Surprising to see the Heat grab the top seed, that's certainly a little different. I'm guessing they'll be meeting you again in the Finals this season, but at least if you keep the series to four or five games, you can still win on your home floor. Tough luck with the MVP award, but at least Durant didn't come away empty handed. Nice numbers for your starters, Young remains your best player off the bench.

Predicting a first round sweep despite the losing streak at the end of the season, 4-1 at worst.

Re: OKC - Playoffs [0-0] - 2014 Season Summary

Postby Phil89 on Thu Nov 22, 2012 8:33 pm

That sloppy end to the season cost me home court advantage (If I make the finals). :(

Somehow I left Michael Beasley off that stat table. :facepalm2: Too many graphics to make and articles to write at this point of the season.
He's averaging about 10ppg off the bench, which isn't too bad. It's about half what he was managing at the beginning of the season though.

Stay tuned for the customary playoff time roster-deepening veteran signings. :D

Thunder sign Korver & Collison for playoffs

Image

Oklahoma City have today announced the addition of veterans Nick Collison and Kyle Korver to their roster for the upcoming playoff run.
Korver had been waived earlier in the season and replaced by Ron Artest. But a lack of depth on their roster made them give him another shot.
Collison was a first round draft pick in 2003 by the Seattle SuperSonics. He moved to Oklahoma with the team when they became the Thunder.
After six seasons with the franchise he was traded to the Lakers in November 2009 in a deal that freed up cap space ahead of the off-season.
Ironically that very same off-season he left Los Angeles and re-signed with the Thunder on a four year deal. It only lasted two months though.
He was traded again, this time to the Nets in December 2010 as part of the Brook Lopez deal. He made it to the conference finals in 2012.
The Nets released him at the start of this season to make room for all of their veteran stars. He'd reportedly been contemplating retirement.
"I was delighted to get a phone call from Sam [Presti]", he said. "This is a really exciting team to be a part of and it will go down in history."
Interestingly Collison was never part of any of the four title-winning Thunder teams. He's hoping that he's got the timing right this time around.

Depth chart
C - Hibbert, Jeffries, Collison
PF - Griffin, Beasley, Seraphin
SF - Durant, Young, Artest

I love how Collison plays in real life and having traded him twice, I guess I felt that I owed him ring. I mean Byron Mullens got two for basically sitting on the bench.

Playoffs fun facts

• Oklahoma City swept Phoenix in the conference finals in season one. The Thunder won game four 189-188 after three overtime periods.

• This is the first time the the Clippers have made the playoffs in this dynasty. It's also the first that time Lakers haven't featured.

• The last two teams to play against Miami in the conference finals face each other in first round this season (Bucks & Nets).

• Cleveland make their first playoff appearance since lebron left for Miami. Dan Gilbert seemingly making good on his promise.

• The Knicks also faced the Bulls in first round last season. New York ended up comfortably sweeping the series 4-0.

I really wish I could watch some of these other series'. Nets vs Bucks and Bulls vs Knicks look like amazing match-ups.

-----
This was one of those fluke games where everything went almost perfectly. My shooting and rebounding were awesome and the Suns barely showed up.
All of my players contributed and unfortunately for them only Brooks and Webster looked like they were trying.
My starters sat out the fourth quarter. Collison had most of his 10 points and 8 rebounds in the fourth quarter. :bowdown2:

Nice, opening the Playoffs with a "that losing streak means nothing" attitude. Let the real season commence!
