The Houston Rockets vs. your Los Angeles Lakers

Series Recap:
Game 1: HOU @ LAL Lakers win 134-128 High Scorer: Spike Faulk(48)

It wasn't a secret that the Lakers didn't take the Rockets seriously.
Especially when Kirilenko went into his out of bounds 'Rite of Spring'
ballet routine. Brian Cook looks on, baffled.

Game Over: Shaq's Lakers send a right hook to the Rockets

Game 2: HOU @ LAL Lakers lose 123-120

Matthew Wagner, one of the few bright spots in the Laker loss

Fined $10,000 for his post-game remarks on live TV:
Wagner: "Franchise, come Tuesday, we're driving this fist up your ***"

Game 3: LAL @ HOU Lakers win 137-132 High Scorer: Brian Cook(41)

Taking back home court advantage: Cook shuts the crowd with this amazing circus reversal.

Game 4: LAL @ HOU Lakers lose 150-144

The Rockets did everything in their power not to get behind 3-1 in the series,
to 33, it meant even blocking thin air.

All game long it felt like a 3 on 4 fastbreak disadvantage for the Lakes.

Game 5: HOU @ LAL Lakers win 139-130 High Scorer: Steve Francis(38)

Metaphysical Goldberg always trying to out-do the legends:
"Big Time"'s launch from the free throw line goes a bit too far.

In the end though, it was the Lakers victorious. Elwood giving his patented victory elbowing.

Game 6: LAL @ HOU Lakers win 127-123 High Scorer: tied Ming/Mobley(26)

With a balanced offensive attack, Marty Elwood still lead the team in attitude.

Series all wrapped-up- Kapov: "You da man, Marty! Now take your fricken elbow from my back!"

Lakers Win the Series 4 games to 2.

Onto the semi-finals, will it be the arch-rival Spurs, or will the series remain entirely in Los Angeles with the Playoff-baptized Clippers?

Heido-Ho, Clippers jangle-up the Spurs!
- Battier, Brand and company dispatch heavily favored San Antonio, 4 games to 1. L.A.'s other team is ready.

It's been a decade and then some since the Loy Vaught-led Clippers brought a happy melody into this franchise's post-season blues.

Loy who?

Exactly, not since 1997 have the Clipper players enjoyed the luxury bonus checks for playing extra games after the 82nd final buzzer buzzes. Having won more than half of their games in one season(.537) and shocking Tim Duncan's Spurs, they're poised to break new ground and have at it against the Defending Champions in the NBA's first ever in-house playoff series.

After losing the series four games to one, Tim Duncan was impressed, "We were able to control Brand throughout the series, but with their trade for Shane [Battier], he threw a complete monkey-wrench into our low post assignments and we just ran out of time figuring how to adjust."

Elton Brand, averaging 17.0 points and 8.2 rebounds in the season, had never felt better, "I thought playing for the Olympics was the highlight of my career, but having the chance to knock down a formidable team like the Spurs definitely has to go right down as another one."

Acquired on the eve of the trading deadline, Battier was a bit more skeptical about the success the team had, "I was like, 'okay when are the Spurs going to kick into gear' in the series. We were waiting and waiting, and they just never got going. So, here we are now. Having to wear our road uniforms in our own building. That is a weird feeling."

Speaking of weird feelings. There'll be a case of sibling rivalry going on as well as Clipper's back-up point guard, Johnny 'Lightning' Gulmatico will be facing his MVP brother Little H for the first time under the national spotlight.

Gulmatico tends to downplay the rivalry or states that any exists at all, "Well, in order for that to happen, Corey[Maggette] will have to come down with an injury of some sort for me to be on the floor long enough to start annoying 'H.' Right now, I'm only averaging 10 minutes a game so that's really just media trying to create an angle. I'm about team. The longer Corey's out there, the better chances we have to win the games."

So it appears that nobody will be picking up frequent flyer miles for this series, except for perhaps the league MVP's mother, flying in from Wolve-land Minnesota to see brief stints of her two boys dueling against one another for the first time, well, probably since the Clippers last made it to the playoffs.

But we have to remind this new incarnation that they're fighting against the three time NBA champs this time around. Says Clipper General Manager and former Laker, Elgin Baylor, "'97? Wow. Was anybody on this team even in grammer school when that happened? I see the matchup possibilities and know that anything can happen. In my playing days, I've seen Jerry hit 60 footers, Nellie's popcorn shot, Willis' heroics. We were the favorites in many contests...meant nuttin."

Thanks number14 for being quite blunt and letting me know what most of you are probably thinking. Sometimes you get so involved in playing the Dynasty that you sometimes forget to people know what you're doing... So now it's a great time more than ever to let the whole NLSC community know...

Where the heck is Kobe?

Kobe was actually the first to be dealt in the fall of 2003. After many
withing the Laker camp realized who they should REALLY build the team around (Shaq, at least at the time) Management sent Bryant along with the beloved Derek Fisher for one undrafted unknown in Little H. Were
LA fans upset? Let's just say that the potential rioting was soothed
after Little H took home three consecutive MVP's.

Sidenote: I created Little H before I realized that I'd be
attempting to learn the game and eventually share this Dynasty with
the whole community. His stats are indeed over-inflated but he'll
eventually not be resigned due to cap concerns. So that'll create more
drama for future episodes!

Where the heck is Karl?

After having a stellar year in Utah, Karl came out strong in the 2003-04
campaign, only to see the Laker's emerging rookie Brian Cook vie for
playing time as the playoffs were approaching. Cook replaced Malone
in the starting lineup for all four post season series and won the Laker
fan's hearts as he became the first rookie since Magic Johnson in 1980
to be crowned the NBA Finals MVP. Having helped the Lakes to the
Holy Grail, Malone decided to call it a career shortly after the victory parade.

Where the heck is Payton?

Milwaukee earning one of the worst records for the 2004 season came up
smelling like roses when they won the NBA Draft lottery that June. The future gleamed brightly when they chose shooting guard Spike Faulk out
of Shaq's Alma Mater. But health concerns of Faulk's capitulated the
Bucks to trade the top draft choice and bring back Gary Payton along with
L.A.'s 2005 first round pick.

Where the heck is Devean George?

The question is...was he ever there when it really mattered. Disgusted
with his contract and inconsistancy, Laker management dealt him to
San Antonio and with the series of trades, eventually landed Draft Day 2005's highest ranking Small Forward in 'Ice' Elwood.

Where the heck is Shaq?

Oh, he's around alright. But now regulated to the bench to provide
offensive punch when needed. SEVEN SIX Center Thomas Goldberg
embarressed O'neal in Goldberg's rookie season with the Jazz. So much so. the Lakers front office figured a way to never have this happen again...become teammates. Lakers said goodbye to re-acquired Robert Horry and Kareem Rush and said hello to 'Big Time' Goldberg.

Our guys are young and it just seemed like Jackson's team just outpoised us. We were real confident we were going to steal this one and and send the series back to Los Ange... Well, you know what I mean."

So, the Lakers are once again in the Western Conference Finals! Who will they face: They're much hated and despised arch-enemy the Dallas Mavericks or will it be the Gasol-Posey attack of the Memphis Grizzlies. We'll all find out as the 2007 Playoffs continue This Saturday!

The Birdie award is eligible to all its NLS CC alumni that have now joined the ranks of the NBA and is presented by none other than the school's Chancellor Smith. The award is given to the NLS CC alumni who obtains the most Birdies in the just completed season.

Birdies defined by ESPN.com:

Birdies, for the uninitiated, are the end product of a formula Larry Bird devised long ago to quantify a player's contribution to overall team success. Bird likes to add a player's points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots ... and then subtract his missed shots, missed free throws, personal fouls and turnovers ... and then divide the total by the number of games played.
