Re: NBA LIVE 13 Features Gameplay Never Seen Before In Baske

Postby JaoSming on Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:18 pm

saying gameplay never before seen is the wrong way to put it, they said playbooks were new.

anyway
  • synergy again
  • canned animation vs full control
  • every animation can be broken and shot or passed out of
  • shy'ed away from the question about animations varying a bit, like sig moves being different each time
  • signature playcalling signals? yes, offense and defense
  • defensive players may point to player who is open
  • customize playbook? can't talk about yet, doing something with playbooks that has never been done before
  • "brand new game, started from scratch" ~really? I thought they said Live 10/Elite 11
  • Dunk contest? Can't talk about it
  • modeled bodies under jerseys along with tattoos
Opinions are my own.

Not too much in the way of new info but a solid interview nevertheless. I'm trying not to read too much into avoiding the topic of the All-Star Weekend but if they are able to bring it back as it was in NBA Live 09, that would be pretty cool. As I've said before, I'm hoping that games modes will be solid this year, even though gameplay is the focus (and fair enough, too).

Notes from this video....

    its hot for us :cheeky:
    2K in Trouble.....
    ...he's noice :czar:
2K trouble because devs said engine is maxed out and at its peak
need to do new things, like, new engine, to take it to a new level
comaprison to madden with minor updates but same game
same pattern going to 2K, from a 2K Dev
Dev was once with EA (Wang?)
    Live is "brand new"
Ground up Engine for Live, all new
Planned for the next generation of consoles (EA is)
Things and Aspects never conceived in Live 13, because of this vision
    Will progress into 14-15-etc
    Competition = Better Gaming
2K's Pres of Marketing said "Fans want more of the same"
    lies
correlates with Dev talk that there isnt much they can do
2K9-2K12, tell the major differences, there are none, gets more minor each year
2k11 better than 2k12? "scary sign"
Pre-Alpha stuff they showed has never been in bball games before (EA)
Going into the next gen, 2K is going to have more power for more graphics, so fans will be blinded to gameplay by graphics
Live is going to look better too, and gameplay will benefit because of new engine
2K slacked because of no competition past few years
2K in trouble? if they are going more of the same, then yes.
Live is on the up and rise, designed for this and next generation.
Opinions are my own.

Thanks for the notes Jao because I don't feel it's worth watching 30 minutes for those notes.
No offense to the guy but to say 2K's in trouble when Live's in a tough situation with little to no faith by many is ridiculous. Comparing 2K games to the Madden franchise and saying there're minor changes between the four games is exagerated, the leap between 2K10 is 2K11 was huge and recieved the praise of lots of people. I could agree with the engine thing but until Live bring a competitive game why would they be worried? Even EA knows it'll take time to compete at the same level with 2K.

As I said in the NBA 2K13 section, I'm not sure about 2K being in trouble. It may be that the tech EA is using is going to leave them better prepared for the next generation, as 2K seemingly was for this generation, but we won't know that until the new consoles come out. I still think 2K can put out a game that will be very enjoyable and very well received if they do "more of the same", only better; addressing the biggest complaints, cramming as much new stuff in as they can, that kind of thing.

However, if it is just essentially a roster update with slightly enhanced graphics and NBA Live 13 does make the strong comeback I believe it's at least capable of doing, then 2K will probably at least lose some ground and a decent amount of fans.
