I'm not sure if this link been posted yet:

but this got my attention (and hopes up)

this game is going to be sweet. I can't wait!

They sound like they really trying to improve the game, especially where it lacked this year.

Yeah, but I hope we will not be forced to use freestyle each time with dunk. I don't want to select a dunk every time, it takes away the surprise element from the game. Right now, every time I dunk it's funny because you never know what kind of dunk you are gonna see. I hope it will be like that even in 2005.

"simulation itervention"?..that'll be nice. This year is shaping up to be the best nba sim ever.

Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:57 am

just like every year  we always have these high expectations

NBA Live is like a wine,it keeps getting better with every year.

Wed Jun 16, 2004 12:25 pm

This year's Dynasty Mode remains promising. It looks like it will be in-depth without being too gimmicky. Even though some elements of NBA Live 2004's gameplay need improvement, a vastly improved Dynasty Mode with minor tweaks to Live 2004's gameplay will certainly satisfy me. :)

I disagree. I regularly score 150+ points per game on superstar with crappy teams playing good teams, shooting unreasonable shooting percentages despite my attempts to fiddle with the sliders. It seems to me that the User sliders affect the CPU ratings and the User just gets shafted at every turn. There are an insane number of gameplay issues with '04 that need to be fixed before the Dynasty Mode gets touched.

Wed Jun 16, 2004 1:26 pm

I usually have scores in the 80s or 90s, with the odd game above 100, so for me the gameplay is fine after some slider tweaks. That hasn't been the case for everyone though. Since Dynasty Mode is the element of the game that holds our interest until the next edition, I consider improvements in that area to be just as important as the gameplay.

Wed Jun 16, 2004 11:41 pm

I'm skeptical.

They don't seem to be pushing this new Dynasty Mode much...and if they announce the new features like an afterthought...then I'm guessing they will be of afterthought-quality as well...just like the training camp and those other Dynasty Development things that might as well not have even been in the game.

what do you mean? is it too late to announce these features? Maybe the info is kept to a minimum -you know for the annual "big secret" thats revealed closer to the release date

You just play crappy defense... With 8 minute quarts on superstar I usually get pretty realistic scores. Around 90 or so... With a fast breaking team that gets really hot I can score 120 which is still within reason, if it is only a single game. Usually I end up with scores around 90...

The CPU seems to shaft the player pretty often, but the sliders do make a huge impact. I for one have toned down the CPU three point slider and the adjusted shot slider and have gotten reasonable results. The difference between 04 and the rest of the lot is that in Live 04 you have to PLAY defense, and not just block shots and grab steals... That's the difference. Learn to play defense and the game will become more tolerable. Try adjusting down the game speed as it will make defending a little bit easier.

The dynasty is something I think they will improve on alot this year... What else new is there except the free style air and some tweaking to the stuff that we already have? They just don't want to show their hand yet. They are hinting and I think they will come away on top with this. Something new, something good, something revolutionary! How about freestyle dynastymode??? As everything seems to be freestyle with Live games these days...

If I were EA Sports and I looked at Madden then NBA Live, I'd cover up the fact that those things are new for EA Canada's sake.

No, not at all. The computer just happens to shoot 60-65% every game taking 40 or 50 3s. It doesn't know how to play D against the pick-and-roll or stop a step-back jumper. It double-teams too often and I kick it out to shooters.

I fast break like Hell and there isn't anything the computer to stop me. I do play 12min quarters but that shouldn't matter.

I have the game speed at 44 and I play solid defense. I control the players to make them rotate, I take charges and I alter shots. I play good defense but if they hit every damn shot they throw up, I can't stop that. Brent Barry can't hit 5/7 from 3 when every shot he takes is him falling on his ass 30ft from the rim and yet he does. When I screw with the CPU sliders, MY team gets shafted instead of theirs and when I mess with my sliders, my stats and abilities go down.

What do you suggest as slider settings?

My guess, it'll be like MVP Baseball's sim. You can sim a game, and cut in. But that'll mean there won't be an in-game-save.

Thu Jun 17, 2004 5:40 pm

tsherkin, what sliders are you using for shooting percentages and defense? i play 12 min. quarters with sliders set to emphasize defense for both sides and my scores are in the 80-90 range, with shooting percentages in the mid 40's for both teams, turnovers around 9-15, blocks 6-12, and the cpu hasn't taken more than 12 threes against me in months. you might want to try lowering the game speed also if you want more realistic scores, unless you like the fast breaking style. i have it at 27, but i like to set up plays and penetrate and dish to open players more than fast breaking.

I think it's this:

What is a PDA?

PDA's are "personal digital assistants," usually designed to fit in one's pocket, which can store documents, spreadsheets, calendar entries, games, databases, and lots of other resources normally associated with a laptop or desktop computer. The difference is that PDA's are relatively inexpensive and highly portable, and are designed to utilize small, low-bandwidth files and applications.

The CPU maybe shoots like 20 threes in a game against me and that's with solid defense... It all depends... Fast breaking is the most effective offense there is. It should take more out of the guys that are breaking all the time. You should try to play with a defensive teams that have no fast runners and try that. I tried it and found my self losing game after game. I won some too, but it's a whole different world without the fast break.

Your game speed is at 44... That explains alot... Raise it to 50-55 and there will be more contested shots which result in more misses and thus lower scores. And it is harder to execute as you have to be more quicker on everything you do. Lower the cpu three pointer slider and the adjusted slider to get more equal results on the three point shooting and especially on the adjusted shooting. I think I have CPU threes at 42 and adjusted at 38. Don't remember for sure.

My game speed is at 50 or 55. The default setting of 60 is too high. And you should really try to play shorter games. You'd get more realistic scores and more realistic stats for your players. This has been always the case (except with Live 2001)... Live 2001 was another story, but I never liked the game as much as I do the others. I want to see some fast flying stuff every once in a while. 2001 was boring...

Live 04 has some issues in the gameplay that need adjusting. Trust me, your problems will go away if you play 8-10 minute quarters and adjust the sliders...

Fri Jun 18, 2004 5:17 pm

People..there are sliders for things like high shooting percentages/fast games/too much scoring. Use them.

The quick improvements of certain areas in 04 from 03 gives me hope that 05 will be even better. A lot of issues with fast breaks, shot choice etc can be relieved if they fixed the passing model of the game. It should be hard to do anything, especially pass out of a double team. Long passes are way too accurate also, if you throw it to a guy downfield with 2 covering, it should be near impossible to complete that pass.
Also if they just improve the AI and have them only shoot open 3's when they passed a whole bunch, or have the teams play sets the game would be just amazing.
