Bobcats Hire Flip Saunders As Head Coach

Image

The Bobcats have found their replacement for Paul Silas. After the worst season in NBA history, the Bobcats' coaching search has been highly publicized by local media, and Flip Saunders appears to be their man. Saunders, 57, has coached the Timberwolves, Pistons and most recently the Wizards. He has a .548% winning record in the NBA. Saunders was signed to a two-year deal.

Assistant coach Stephen Silas also had his contract renewed for the next season.

Bobcats Hire Assistant General Manager

19 year old Liam Washburn was named Charlotte Bobcats GM. Little is known about Washburn, but he reportedly impressed Michael Jordan enough to hire him despite his lack of a college education of basketball background.

"We are very glad to have Liam and his unique perspective as part of the Bobcats team", said general manager Rich Cho. [i]"Being around the same age as most of our team, we hope he can identify with our young stars.

When asked about such an unorthodox hiring of a seemingly unqualified candidate, Michael Jordan declined to comment.

Diop Opts Out Of Contract, Retirement Likely

In a surprising move, seldom played Center DeSegana Diop opted out of the final year of his contract, which would have earned him $7.37 million dollars. Fellow veteran free agent picked up his $3.5 million option to stay in Charlotte.

The Bobcats was an obvious choice don't know that you're interested in that team though. I'd say get Drummond (Y)

Yes!

Either draft Drummond or trade for several mid-round firsts.

Thomas is amazing in this game. (Y) When the game came out I did a Bobcats association, kept him, and was able to turn him into a multiple-time all-star. Saunders seems like a good hiring too.

I'd have taken the Cavs with Irving (and it looks like they have their minds set on Barnes), but the Bobcats sounds cool too. Much more work with them.

Good luck, make sure Thomas lives up to his 8M annual salary.

I don't know if I agree with that mock draft. Drummond should be easily top 5 (I'd pick him at #2), not down at the end of the lottery.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember Mullens' rating in 2k12, but if it's anything like 2k11's (in the low 40s), it has to be raised a lot. He's very athletic and has range out to beyond the arc. He was arguably our second best player last season behind Henderson, (which by the way is really damn sad and is probably half the reason we were as bad as we were). Thomas wins DPOY in 2k11 sometimes, so at least make him not suck as hard as he does in real life.

Definitely the first time I've seen Diop opt out of his monstrous contract. At least he can't do this in his retirement. Image
The path of the ball kind of resembles his career.

1. New Orleans - PF/C Anthony Davis (Kentucky)
Image Hornets unsurprisingly select consensus #1 pick Kentucky forward Anthony Davis.
2. Charlotte - SG Bradley Beal (Florida)
Image Michael Jordan's Bobcats make a surprising move, opting for undersized 2 guard Brad Beal. Beal shot poorly during his season in Kentucky, but the Bobcats were reportedly very high on him after his workout.
3. Washington - SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Kentucky)
The Wizards had to be glad that MKG fell into their laps. Kidd-Gilchrist had stated in pre-draft interviews that he would be a good fit for the Wizards at small forward.
4. Cleveland - SF Harrison Barnes (North Carolina)
5. Sacramento - SF Terrence Jones (Kentucky)
6. Portland - C/PF Jared Sullinger (Ohio State)
7. Golden State - SG Leo Lai (Hong Kong)

Hong Kong's Leo Lai is a good fit for the fast-paced Warriors, but will likely come off the bench behind the emergent Klay Thompson.

Raptors trade #8 pick, Linas Kleiza to Philadelphia for Elton Brand

In a shocking move, the Philadelphia 76ers have acquired the #8 pick from Toronto, along with Linas Kleiza for Elton Brand. Brand offers a large expiring contract and veteran presence, while wiping Kleiza's regrettable contract off the books. However, the #8 pick is a lot for a guy six years removed from his last all-star appearance.
Toronto grade: D | Philadelphia grade: A-

8. Philadelphia (via Toronto) - PF Perry Jones (Baylor)
9. Detroit - SF Justine Crewhead (Kentucky)

The Pistons take scoring forward Justine Crewhead, who has been likened to a poor man's Kevin Durant. He will likely come off the bench for Tayshaun Prince.

Hornets trade #10 pick, Chris Kaman to Brooklyn for Gerald Wallace

Just three months after trading the #6 pick for Gerald Wallace, the Nets swapped Wallace and his expiring contract for Chris Kaman and his expiring contract, as well as the #10 pick more importantly. With elite prospects such as Robinson, Drummond and Sit on the board, this looks like the first good deal for the Nyets in a long time.
New Orleans Grade: D | Brooklyn grade: B+

10. Brooklyn (via New Orleans) - PF Thomas Robinson (Kansas)
11. Portland - C Andre Drummond (Connecticut)
12. Milwaukee - PF Martti Must (Memphis)

The Bucks select floor spacing PF Martti Must. Must will likely be the replacement for free agent Ersan Ilyasova, who was the runner-up for Most Improved Player last season.
13. Phoenix - SG Will Sit (North Carolina)
The Suns get a steal in UNC combo guard Will Sit. The Australian import is one of the best scorers in the draft, but his height (6' in shoes, barely) and age (23) scared some teams off. Sit could be a rookie of the year candidate on a Suns' team reeling from Nash's retirement.

Rockets trade #14 pick, Marcus Morris to Golden State for Andrew Bogut

A very confusing move by Golden State sends center Andrew Bogut to the Rockets for rookie Marcus Morris and the 14th pick. The move is a surprising one as Andrew Bogut has yet to play a game for the Warriors, who sent Monta Ellis and a recent lottery pick for the defensive Center and former #1 pick.
Houston grade: B+ | Golden State grade: D

14. Golden State (via Houston) - PG/SG Austin Rivers (Duke)
15. Philadelphia - PG Axel Gomez (Texas)

With the impending free agency of Lou Williams, the Sixers bolster their guard depth with Gomez. Scouts are high on Gomez, though he is unlikely to unseat current starter Jrue Holiday.
16. Houston - SF Andrew Watson (West Virginia)
Chase Budinger and Chandler Parsons: "Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!"
17. Dallas - PG Julian Martin (UCLA)
Dallas "dares" to take enigmatic PG Julian Martin out of UCLA. The 6'9" point guard will have big shoes to fill, replacing the retiring championship PG Jason Kidd.
18. Minnesota - SF Shad O'Greene (Arizona)
Filipino forward O'Greene had seen his draft stock rise substantially leading up to the draft, and the 22 year old defensive specialist was reportedly a favorite of Wolves GM David Kahn.
19. Orlando - PG Janis Kalnins (Latvia)
Latvian point guard Janis Kalnins will push Jameer Nelson for the starting PG job. Orlando hopes that taking a risk on the 19 year old wil pay dividends towards keeping Dwight.
20. Denver - SG Kenny Young (Austrailia)
The stars align for Australian sharp shooter Kenny Young, landing on his favorite team the Nuggets. He'll provide yet another potent offensive weapon off the bench.

Celtics trade picks #21, #51 to Toronto for PF Ed Davis, C Amir Johnson

The Celtics trade two of their three picks in the draft for two of the Raptors' key young frontcourt players. The Raptors have high hopes for their prospective front court of Brand, Bargnani and Valanciunas and clear significant salary, while Boston gets much needed frontcourt help.
Boston grade: A- | Toronto grade: B

21. Toronto (via Boston) - SG Ray Cer (Cal Poly)
"Speed" Ray Cer follows in the footsteps of Rafer Alston as an And-One Streetballer playing guard for the Raptors.

Celtics trade pick #22 to Orlando for 2013 first rounder, SF Quentin Richardson

The Celtics deal their other pick in this draft to pick up the Magic's 2013 first and forward Quentin Richardson. Richardson is probably no worse than Mickael Pietrus, while Orlando's 2013 pick is likely to be earlier than 22nd.

22. Orlando (via Boston) - PG Vinson Duroy (Washington)
Orlando picks up another NLSC point guard, suggesting that Jameer Nelson may not be returning next season.
23. Atlanta - SG Jeremy Lamb (Connecticut)
24. Cleveland - SG Doron Lamb (Kentucky)
25. Memphis - PF John Henson (North Carolina)
26. Indiana - PG Scott Machado (Iona)
27. Miami - PG Myck Kabongo (Texas)
28. Oklahoma City - PF Arnett Moultrie (Mississippi State)
29. Chicago - SG John Jenkins (Vanderbilt)
30. Golden State - SG Tomas Satoransky (Czech Republic)

----------
31. Charlotte - PG Damian Lillard (Weber State)
Charlotte gets a major steal, grabbing scoring point guard Damian Lillard. Lillard is projected to be one of the top point guards in the class, but saw his stock fall significantly before the draft.

You got a major steal in Lillard. Not thrilled about the Beal selection, but whatever works for you. :D Is Hendo going to play the 3?

Also that OKC team with Moultrie on it should be just about unbeatable.
