Introducing "The Soapbox" - Write Articles for the Main Page

Talk about the NLSC Podcast, Monday Tip-Off, Wayback Wednesday, The Friday Five, Top 10 Plays of the Week, and our Parsec Tournaments! This is also a section for NLSC and community announcements, and other site-related topics.

Introducing "The Soapbox" - Write Articles for the Main Page

Postby JaoSming on Fri Sep 23, 2011 12:03 pm

You may have noticed that the main NLSC site has had a lot more initial renovations done to it than the Forum. These changes have allowed us to link the main page and the Forum with the same log-ins and utilize a more in-depth news posting and content management system.

With these changes already in place, we are looking for NLSC Forum members who want to get their voice heard by writing articles for the front page. Possible topics include NBA 2K12 demo impressions, retrospectives on NBA Live games, articles on patching, the community, lockout ideas, NBA team analysis and much more. Essentially anything related to basketball video games or basketball itself is fair game.

While we still want to encourage debate in the Forum, this is another way you can get your thoughts heard by others. Articles from the NLSC main page get distributed to the NLSC Twitter and Facebook which is followed by people who don't necessarily participate in the Forum, including 2K Sports. Please note that you will not receive any monetary payment for contributing articles to the NLSC but we can plug a YouTube channel or website for you, so long as it does not contain adult or illegal content. Frequent contributors may be offered a more permanent spot on the site staff (again, an unpaid gig) if there is mutual interest.

To be considered, you must have:
  • A strong command of English including punctuation and grammar
  • Good writing skills
  • The ability to express yourself in a professional, mature and thoughtful manner
  • Something interesting to say!

Any articles we publish must not be profane, threatening, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate. We will discuss any major issues or edits with you before we run the article.

So, if you're interested, PM Andrew or myself for more information.
Opinions are my own.

So that already eliminates 90% of the posters here for consideration.

No problem, if there's only 10% qualified/participating then that's consistent with Sturgeon's Law and 1% rule. ;)

hmmmmmmm..... interesting. What's the length? About 2 or 3 paragraphs? I ask because I know how you and Jao like to write "extremely" long write ups. However, I'm still one of those who read them from top to bottom.

It doesn't need to be as long as ours, lol, not at all. Just something with good content worth posting.

It doesn't need to be, but it can be if you feel like it. :) I'd say some of the blog entries on Inside EA Sports are a decent guide for a suitable length:

Can we contribute articles from actual journalist(newspaper, magazines)or would that have to be in the NBA/Basketball Talk area?

that stuff would still go in the NBA/Basketball forum. We're looking for opinions or original stuff.

you could comment on an article, or give your opinion in parallel to the article, but we arent looking for the copy paste stuff we do when we post articles in the forums.

Besides, that would be plagiarism.

Here's a soapbox about the soapbox. Most submitted article ideas are returned as appropriate for a forum post but not for the soapbox. So why try?

have you submitted anything recently? I know I said that about a few submissions that were only a couple paragraphs long and were open ended in nature towards discussion and not making a direct point....

Check out HoopsGaming23's take on the 2014 NBA MVP race!
http://www.nba-live.com/the-soapbox-is- ... race-over/

With all of the NBA teams well past the 70-game mark and the Playoffs a couple of weeks away, the time and the world-wide hype couldn’t be more appropriate for a discussion about who deserves the NBA Most Valuable Player award. Although according to the NBA MVP ladder, there are officially ten active candidates for the highest single player accolade, the real battle is fought between two major forces in today’s NBA world: Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

Check out Kenny's article on five players he likes because of NBA video games!
http://www.nba-live.com/the-soapbox-fiv ... deo-games/

I always find it interesting how NBA video games are able to alter my perceptions. There are often songs within the soundtracks that I end up liking, despite my best efforts not to, and the same thing can happen with NBA players. While I generally like my favourite NBA players due to their performances in real life, NBA video games have also influenced me, because of the positive in-game moments I associate with particular players.
