hahaha. yeah
Really... first thing that came to my mind was why is coach allowing them to do that?
And I feel unsporting on both ends. Full court pressure when ur up 26-0? Come on. Lolz.
Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:19 pm
That's junior league sports for you, I guess.
Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:29 pm
Bullshit. I call it the other way around. It was 26-0. It's the other team that continued to play the aggressive defense, ESPECIALLY on the sideline handoffs, that was unsportsmanlike.
Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:38 pm
Given that the other team was going to just hold the ball and pass it back and forth, I don't blame them for trying to intercept the pass so they could actually, you know, play basketball. But that's a fair point. I'd agree with NovU, both teams were unsporting in their own ways.
Tue Sep 13, 2011 7:49 pm
I hear what your saying, but do you think they would have continued to hold the ball like that if the defense stopped playing so aggressively? That team eventually scored 23 points in that game, so I bet the defense backed off at one point.
Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:01 pm
Perhaps, but having been on the wrong side of some lopsided games when I played in my local league back when I was at school, I'm a believer in the idea of playing it out, as much as it sucks. If that team ended up scoring 23 points then there was probably a fair amount of time left in the game, in which case I understand the other team still being competitive even with a big lead. It also kind of reminds me when you're playing online and you're winning big, so the other person starts messing around and throwing up full court threes and whatnot because they're pissed off about it. I guess I'm more critical of the team that was holding the ball because even if the team that was up were being a bit overzealous, they were playing basketball. The holding/passing it back and forth on the sideline? That's not basketball.
If nothing else though, I think it's a sign that one of those teams is in the wrong division.

I've done the online full court shots to vent, but still played the game out normally after that. Being down nearly 40, I didn't want to be a dick and quit. My opponent shit a couple full court shots as well, which killed any momentum he had, do I was able to lower the deficit before it was over.
It isn't basketball, it's straight up fear what they were doing. They were getting embarrassed, weren't confident and didn't really have any skills to compete. Again, it sucks that the coach let that happen so many times without calling timeout.

This is insanity. John Wall behind back and off the wall in-game > LeBron shutting down the game

Just awesome.

The players should fight the owners so they can do this every offseason.
I agree that John Wall's highlights were better than Lebron's. I don't remember him getting so much air when he jumped. His head is at the rim at almost every dunk attempt.
I'm a bit disappointed that Blake Griffin didn't play in a league.

I was impressed by John Wall's highlights but I really liked what I saw from Kylie Irving too...

Just saw this video. I know I'm a little late to party but will still comment.
I've been on the end of some brutal losses. What I would've done in those games was foul them real hard. I still do that in games I play now. If they want to press full court when they're up by 30 points with a few minutes to play, I just foul them, stop the clock, let them know what they're doing is cool. If they are going to be pressing the inbound pass at full court I'll fake an inbound pass at their nuts. If they still don't get the idea, the next one is going at their nuts. I know I shouldn't stoop to their level, but it sucks when you got 4 players & they've got a full bench & they're running full court press until the final siren. Ahh well, we got the last laugh last night when we had 6 players & beat them by double digits.
As for the video, the other team didn't need to press like that. They could've played a real strong zone & held that team scoreless & get lots of points on fastbreak, instead of wanting to run up the score. As for the crappy team, not a fan of them doing what they did but I guess they did it out of frustration & humiliation. Whereas I would just put on some big hits, they just gave up.
At least over here they have implemented mercy rules in junior competitions whereby if one team is up by 25-30 points & they keep pressing, then the losing coach can go over to the winning coach & call on the mercy rule to apply, whereby the winning team has to pull back on their aggressive, pressing defence. That sort of rule in the above game would've been better for all involved.

LeBron traveled.
Says Chris Paul.

I never saw that happen when I played in my local league so I guess they don't (or at least didn't) have such a rule in place, but that's a good idea for teaching and promoting sportsmanship.

Basketball Australia (or Queensland, not sure) only introduced it this year I believe, so that's why you would never have seen it.

Ah, fair enough. Well, like I said, good move.
Wed Oct 05, 2011 12:53 am
The under-10 comp I played in had that sort of rule. Of course all it really does is turn a full-court press into a half-court press, so it's really not all that effective. As evidenced by the number of games in which we scored four points or fewer.
