NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #3 - Art Direction

The artists here have taken a lot of time to make our game feel even more life-like than ever before. We took a lot of time to research and find references for all of the greatest players in every era, along with the old school feel that each of their eras is known for. We really worked hard to recreate more than a 150 new retired players with their accessories, hair, uniforms, court floors, etc. because, as Erick said in the NBA Greatest Insight, we are often going at least ten players deep on the 34 new legendary teams.

This year, the broadcast of each game is so life-like that you will have a hard time believing you’re not watching old clips from back in the day. The amount of detail we put into making these games fit into their respective era’s is crazy, from the old school baskets, press tables, overlays, camera angles, etc. We also did a lot of work on post process filters; adding sepia and grayscale to display older games, the way they were broadcasted in their day. As you can see in the below screenshot, a game from the 60s or 70s will have that “grainy” look and feel. The combination of camera work and color adds to the authenticity of each broadcast and is specific to each era, venue, etc.

also in the os they posted some great screenies which includes some accessories combined like calf sleeve and knee pad :cheeky:

Updated the link to point to the actual Developer Insight on Facebook. You can also find the screenshots there.

In any case, thanks for posting. The faces are looking pretty spot on in those screens.

All I cared about was the screens, the insight was bad

Probably not an area where there's much to say, it's up to the screenshots to tell the customary thousand words. The presentation Insight will probably be more detailed.

someone knows if in 2k10/11 had art diferences (on faces, basically) between PS3 and PC? I mean, those amazing faces on 2k12 preview screenshots will certainty be on PC version?

No players are allowed to be booed anywhere.

If I recall correctly, last year the Association Insight was one of the last ones posted.

I'm surprised that they didnt mention the playoff crowds/atmosphere

That's probably coming in the Presentation Insight as well. They probably could've skipped this one and included all the info under Presentation.

I know, I just hate how they do that like it's the least important feature, when actually it's the most important (for me at least).

I guess it creates suspense. If all the important stuff is in the early blogs, it's harder for them to build hype for the blogs that'll come closer to release. Go with the big new feature first (NBA's Greatest), touch on a few areas that really make for great reading (art) while sprinkling in some blogs of more substance (presentation, presumably) then break out the big guns for maximum hype as the release gets closer (gameplay/AI, online, My Player, Association).

I hope they make something for My Player like a carry-over save from 2K11.

Ronnie already said they arent doing that again because of the 99 OVR and other hacked players from 2k11. Sounds like they might encrypt their 360 rosters, screwing up hex editing/REDitor possibilities.

Wouldn't matter, hackers would find their way. 2K has just been banning those 99's as much as possible.

That wasn't much of an insight, though. It was like pictures with captions. Until they improve model and image quality, I won't expect it to be more than a "filler" insight with new screens. Definitely not worth delaying for a trailer.
