I can't delete players in the NBA Live 2003 toolkit!

By accident I started a franchise with a roster, which also had some selfmade players in the free-agent pool (and unfortunately some pretty good ones... 
) and since I had a nice start in my franchise, I'd like to delete those selfmade players (to keep everything realistic) , without starting a new franchise. I tried to use the NBA Live 2003 toolkit to do this. First I chose the directory (the save slot where my franchise files are) and then I chose "Importing" and then "Delete Teams and Players". I actually managed to delete the players and when I reopened the same rosters one more time in the toolkit, the players where still deleted but when I got to INTO the game and loaded the franchise, they where still/again there...in their old place...
Can somebody please tell me, what I have actually done wrong and how to really delete some players in a franchise-save?

hrmm i'm not sure about deleting players,, you could always drop their ratings to -50 and throw them on the IL?
