Blacktop Revitalization: Generic Edition Released

You can download the Generic Edition of this Roster by following the link below.
Blacktop Revitalization: Generic Edition
Enjoy!

The Generic Edition features players from the Hoop It Up 2K11 mod except they are categorized by their skills and physical appearance. They play in an empty practice gym with the default jerseys, this roster does not use ANY custom art!

Below is the discussion about the NBA version of this mod, which is still a work in progress.

Following up on last year's beta, I am taking another swing at giving new life to NBA 2K11's Blacktop Mode. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we can add multiple courts like I did last year, so instead I am going to focus on sorting NBA players differently and adding new players. This roster is NOT to be used with the normal 5 on 5 play now mode, association mode, or anything that isn't called Blacktop.

Currently, I have 20 "teams" (classes really) done for this roster where I sorted out the 20 best players in the following categories. I removed the historic and developer players, but as you can see Jordan still snuck in.

You'll notice a lot of repeat players in those categories. Thankfully, 2K has programmed Blacktop Mode to automatically remove the "duplicates" once the player is chosen. So if I pick LeBron to be on my team, he will no longer appear in any of the other categories.

I am going to be adding some special categories to chose from on top of these top NBA players, but I will not be adding any player faces to this mod since I am planning on porting this to the 360. Thankfully the REDitor already has all the appropriate columns editable, so I don't need to wait for the next release.

So, I need input on the following:
  • What court should I use for this mod? Keep the Blacktop Court? Summer Circuit Indoor Court w/ a crowd? Empty Attack Athletics or Practice Gym? Or even an arena?
  • Thoughts on uniform colors? Keep Black vs White? Red vs Blue?
  • Any particular additions you would like to see to actually touch Blacktop Mode?

I've got some ideas I am going to implement into this roster already that I'm going to keep secret right now, but I still want to hear what you guys think.

And I will mention that this will be applied to that Hoop It Up mod I am working on as a separate roster. So I can get that "pick up" game feel that was missing from that mod.

I went ahead and released the Generic Edition of this roster. It features the players that are included in the Hoop It Up mod and better replicates the "pick up"/"men's league" atmosphere I was trying to obtain with that mod.

It's only a roster, doesn't use any custom art, and just like what the NBA Edition of this roster, ONLY works in Blacktop Mode's Pick Up games mode.

Check it out.

Hoop It Up mod has generic players coached by NBA players with normal 30 teams and play now functionality.

Blacktop Generic Edition has the same generic players as above, except this roster only supports Blacktop Mode's Pick up game mode and instead of being on teams the top players are grouped into categories to choose from including steals, blocks, 3 points, dunks, layups, height, weight, quickness, etc.

Blacktop NBA Edition will be similar to the Generic Edition except instead of unknown generic players, it will have current NBA players grouped into those categories.

The point of using the Categories instead of current Teams is to let people pick a 3 point shooter, a good passer, and a shot blocker in an easier fashion than trying to think of a shooter, then think what team they are on, and then doing the same thing for a passer and shot blocker.

I made a tiny little trailer for this mod

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n71z7ILi8vo

I think I'm almost ready to release the NBA edition of this (does everyone like the uniforms in the video?) I was thinking of adding the NBA Street characters and maybe the Ball Up guys, but does anyone care enough to include them?

As for the Generic edition, I am going to change it so the players are categorized by appearance instead of skills....just to keep you guessing on ratings. Tall, fat, muscley, skinny, black, white, asian, pinoy?, headbands, nice shoes, t-shirt, etc etc. Thoughts?

it's good that you categorized Pinoy separately...although we are also Asians, we look different from the Chinese, who in reality is the first thing a person will think of when Asian is mentioned... :)

cant wait for APB...so with this mod, you're replacing all 30 teams with fictional teams for the MOD?

ps: jerseys are sexy

EDIT: sorry for the double post...i though there was a comment in between...im too sleepy that's why...

im playing hoop it up and i saw sumthing funny....the bench players are seating on their shorts and when they standup, it looks like their wearing loin cloth... :D

gameplay is good...fast paced and having the head coach and assistant coach as nba players is good...

it's already in beta form in the total conversions forum
viewtopic.php?f=139&t=81787

And yep, it's 30 fictional teams with legends, current players and generics.

fumanchu, yea the bench players is a glitch that cannot be fixed, but I like playing 5v5 on that court too much to cut it. Nice screen and play too! Glad you're enjoying it (Y)

Thank you Jao! (Y) (Y) (Y) This is so in my game. One other reason why I really like these generic rosters of yours is that if the average player rating is in the 60s, when I create a custom player for myself and pimp him out with all 99s, he becomes that much more dominant compared to everyone, indulging my streetball fantasies which are unfortunately not supported by my pathetic basketball skills in real life  .

change the floorID to something else. The default (no color) practice gym actually has the 76ers logo in the middle FYI. So you can copy f729, rename to f730, then change that ID to 730, and then with the mod tool change that 76ers logo to a blank texture or something else.
