E3: NBA 2K12 Preview (Operation Sports)

Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:32 pm

Check it out here.

Seems 2K is still intent on being tight-lipped about the game for now but a couple of interesting gameplay notes:

Speaking of gameplay, a minimal amount was shown and even less was spoken about. However, it is clear more contextual moves will be added in NBA 2K12. Most of the shots taken in our Mavericks vs. Heat demo all seemed to be influenced by player momentum and the location of the ball before the shot animation began. I also noticed a push-ahead dribble by LeBron on a vicious drive to the bucket. That is a welcome sight for both 2K gamers and Heat fans. He couldn't go into detail, but gameplay producer Rob Jones acknowledged more dribbling upgrades are definitely coming in NBA 2K12. He added there would also be an improvement in how the AI uses specific players, making sure all the control and moves given to users are a part of the AI's arsenal as well.

I want nice cutscenes like from Nba Live 2003 but much more improved (Y)

Lets hope they just continue to enhance my player and Association mode.

Ugh, no thanks. Those "courtside comedy" cutscenes were just cheesy and terrible, way too silly for my liking.

Some people do but most of us didn't. Like I said, no thanks.

Uh-oh. I don't like the sound of that. Might end up being similar to 2K10 with those 'you want to break your gamepad in half' contextual animations.

Hopefully they're referring to a wider variety of "appropriate to the situation" contextual moves rather than the "this is what's happening no matter what you do" type.

I liked how in 2k6 where they had the pre game matchup to watch or whatever and it showed the 2 players warming up and shooting jumpers and whatever, it wasn't really repetitive unless you really really played a lot, maybe they could go more indepth with that and say how the players have performed against each other and, whatever, hopefully they do something like that as their presentation they were talking about.

4 months away from release with no competition. I hope they build the hype rather than waiting until the last month to spill it all.
