Steve Kerr To Join Commentary Team

Ready for a nugget of NBA 2K12 news seven months out from release? Yesterday on the Damon Bruce radio show Kevin Harlan revealed that Steve Kerr will be a commentator in the game. No further details were discussed but it would seem to reason Kerr will be replacing Clark Kellogg.

Bruce did the voice-overs for the NBA 2K11 halftime shows and Harlan has been the play-by-play commentator on the series since 2K6. Kellogg joined as as color commentator in 2K9.

Steve Kerr acted as a commentator with the EA Sports NBA Live series starting with NBA Live 06 and the run ended following NBA Live 10. Partnering with Marv Albert the commentary was always well regarded, though gamers began to get tired of the duo and EA replaced them in the ill-fated NBA Elite 11. Given that history it is somewhat surprising that 2K would turn to Kerr but in a new setting he could make for a good addition to the game.

2K's got a pretty talented group working on their NBA games, but the powers of resurrection might be beyond them.

I think it's a great move. While I was impressed with the presentation and commentary in NBA 2K11, having two TNT guys partner up would add to the authenticity, particularly if they can get some TNT integration going similar to the deal EA currently has with ESPN.

I have mixed feelings about Kerr as i have mixed feelings about Clark. I like em both. Clark is a good guy, but sometimes too many cliche's. Kyle Montgomery from NBA top 10's - that's my guy XD

As long as he doesn't regurgitate Kenny Smith's lines, that will be fine.

Who are the current commentators for Elite?

Mark Jackson,Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen and as I've seen from vids,their commentary was really nice...

And given ESPN's agreement with EA Sports, I'm guessing they'll be featured in their next game, perhaps minus Jackson or Van Gundy if one of them ends up with a coaching job between now and then.

Kerr's commentary from Live 06 has burned into my brain, don't like 2K having him too. Though Kellog sucks, but I'd rather have Reggie Miller if they're going with TNT announcers.

I thought he was fine during his run on Live. He seemed to annoy a fair amount of people but based on most of the complaints posted in the past, the bigger issue was the game selecting certain lines at inappropriate times rather than Kerr's delivery or anything like that.
