I think I'm realizing that my sleeping pattern is really not that healthy...I'm just physically unable to sleep more than 4-5 hours a night, and even though I wake up fine and I don't feel sleepy during the day, I can't imagine that it wouldn't have any consequences. Now I read that not sleeping enough can cause not being able to gain any weight, which is another chronic problem of mine...

I am from Christchurch, New Zealand. All of my family (except for bro, 2 sis & mother) live there, as well as a lot of friends. 65 dead in Christchurch and counting. My dad is fine, as are a few other family & friends. Hopefully nobody I know has died. It's two degrees of separation in Christchurch, so I naturally fear that won't be the case.

My thoughts are with the people of Christchurch during this terrible natural disaster and second earthquake in just a matter of months.

I've got family there too, haven't heard anything as yet.

As of last night, I know one of my cousins (2nd) was trapped in one of the buildings unable to get out. Hopefully she gets out alright.

Thanks, details are obviously very vague when they do come through.

In regards to my relative, I heard that they got her out and she is currently in the hospital in ICU (intensive care). Apparently her legs were crushed. I'm not sure how bad they are or whether she'll leave them. Not good for her or her direct family. The bright side is that she is alive, so we can all be thankful for that.

Aside from that, my Dad said his driveway is gone (I'm assuming ripped apart) & is unsure of how much damage to his house (which he was trying to sell before moving back to Oz, but that's probably not going to happen for a long while now).

Sorry to hear about all that x. But like you said the bright side is she's alive. If she does happen to lose her legs though, at least theres examples out there that prove its not the end of the world. Here's to a safe, quick recovery (Y)

And positive energies out to everyone dealing with this.

The latest update is she's lost both legs and is currently fighting for her life. Apparently not looking good for her :(

Was going to go on here and be a self-pitying emo cunt like I enjoy doing, but then I saw what happened to X's cousin and immediately felt like an asshole.

Really sorry about that X. Some truly awful natural disasters in that continent lately. Did she pull through?

I guess it's not the NLSC's fault that I bite my tongue, then it becomes a canker sore, and thus quite a nuisance. Still though! :(

Finally got some more details. She's still in an induced coma over a week & a half after being pulled out of the Pyne Gould Building. She did have both legs amputated. They just did skin grafts to replace dead skins. She's still very iffy at the moment, but given she's lasted this long, I think she'll pull through. She's been a fighter since she was born at a shade under two pounds, so yeah.

Very sad though to see your home city where you grew up decimated. I'm obviously glad I'm not there right now but my heart still bleeds for it.
