X's T'WOLVES ASSOCIATION

No guarantees but 2k11 has made me want to give it another go. Tried to find as bad a team as possible but with some semi-likeable pieces & here I am, starting an Association with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gotta luv David Kahn, he's breathed new life & given me a team to mold with SF's galore, Darko & that Peko guy getting nice fat deals for no good reason. Bring it on Kahn, bring it on.

Anyways, let's get the formalities out of the way:

Version: 2K11
Game Style: Custom
Difficulty: All-Star
Roster: 2K Default (with Rubio CAP downloaded & edited for realism purposes)

Season Length: 29 games (I will play half, sim half)
Playoff Format: 3-3-5-5 (the 3-3-3-3 would've made more sense with shorter season but I want the big series to matter more)

Play Quarter Length: 10 minutes
Sim Quarter Length: 12 minutes

Rookies: Generics (what else could they be? :P )
NLSC-ers: Appears I have gone against my word & put a few in.

As always, enjoy (B)

After seeing Beasley and the Wolves defeat the Lakers a few days ago, this will be interesting. And with The X controlling them, even more. (Y)

I think the Pekovic guy could turn out to be a great steal for them. Darko deal is of course overpayed, but he's not that bad.

Good luck nevertheless.

Thanks for comments everybody. Won't quote everybody unless specific questions, but as always, comments are always appreciated.

Sit wrote:I want to see you bring in Patty Mills if possible also.

No plans for major shake ups. This team will get a chance to prove itself (or not) first.

Martti. wrote:I hope Beasley becomes your scoring leader.

Thierry wrote:After seeing Beasley and the Wolves defeat the Lakers a few days ago, this will be interesting.

Beas has a chance to Martti. He will be given every chance. Don't forget Kevin Love though :P

Lamrock wrote:Try not to get too bummed out with the team like I did!

Tried them in 2k10 but they didn't have enough hook for me. Kahn trading away Jefferson & Sessions, bringing in Beasley, Webster, Wesley Johnson & Ridnour, as well as giving deals to Darko & Peko seemed to give the team more hook.

z02 wrote:Get Wesley Johnson the ROTY and make Martell Webster and All-Star!

Anything's possible although the latter is unlikely to happen. I haven't set my starting lineup (I'll post roster tonight). I've got to make a choice on starting SG. Webster is likely to start as a 6th man & will battle Brewer for starting spot.

Cartar wrote:I think the Pekovic guy could turn out to be a great steal for them. Darko deal is of course overpayed, but he's not that bad.

Let's see if he can do anything. He'll get a chance, but Darko will get the first roll of the dice.

Nice choice of team. They can become great. I am/was contemplating to play with them too.

Oh and Darko isn't overpaid. One of the cheapest starting centers in the league and he can still have a decent career because he's still young. There are far worse contracts in the NBA.

Hell yeah, an X Association. Definitely looking forward to this one. Ah and that Peko guy is (at least in real life) a pretty solid Euro big man. I hope you can turn things around in Minny.

Gotta start Darko at this stage surely. Personally I like Kevin Looooaave at the 4 and then I guess everyone moves down and Martell can bring scoring from the second unit.

Good luck with this though. Looking forward to it.

At this stage I'm experimenting, so lineup will likely change. Love will play both the 4 & the 5. Either way, he'll play big minutes :P

Although I had marked Brewer as my starter, I think Martell might be better suited for role. We will soon find out.

Darko will get his chance.

Postby The X on Fri Oct 08, 2010 8:52 pm

Image DON'T WORRY, WE'RE KAHN-TASTIC

An open letter to our fans.

The time for talk is over.

Okay, not quite. Right after this long-winded letter. Because we do have a lot of good things to talk about.

Fourteen months ago we laid out a plan: First, we would become a running team that plays an exciting up-tempo style of basketball. Second, we would get younger in order to build a team that could improve together and compete for a number of years. Third, we would instill a culture of hard work throughout our organization. Fourth, transparency. We'll always let you know exactly what's going on, occasionally via long-winded letters.

That was our plan over a year ago and it hasn't changed one iota. In the off-season we added young, athletic wing players Wesley Johnson, Martell Webster and Lazar Hayward. They join Jonny Flynn, Corey Brewer and Wayne Ellington as guys who can get up and down the floor quickly and shoot the ball from the perimeter. We re-signed Darko Milicic and added Nikola Pekovic, giving us two more up-tempo big men to run with one of the best outlet passers in the game, Kevin Love. We took advantage of our cap room to acquire a potential star in Michael Beasley, who was the number one prospect in his high school class of 2007 and averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds in his one college season. And finally, we added Luke Ridnour, a push-the-pace player who becomes the team's elder statesman at the age of 29.

We now have more shooting, athleticism and depth at every position, which will make us a better team this season. So will we challenge for the NBA championship this year?

Not likely.

Ouch. This honesty thing is a bit painful. But the reality is, we still need that one dominant player.

It's possible that that player could already be on our roster. We have eight guys who were selected in the top seven picks of their respective drafts, and the average age of those players is 22. So the potential is there for someone to emerge. But in case that doesn't happen, we'll continue to manage our salary cap so that we have the flexibility to make that one move that can change a franchise.

We are confident, however, that this team will be exciting to watch. For the first time in years Wolves fans are going to feel like they're missing out if they aren't in the arena. So in addition to player development we're working hard on fan development, starting with variable pricing and Flex Pack ticket packages that let you pick the games and seats that you want. The bottom line for fans is: We're making it easier than ever for you to be part of our turnaround.

There's been a lot of talk this off-season. The naysayers certainly have been vocal. And while we can understand a certain amount of skepticism, we know we've turned the corner. And we're anxious to get after that first tipped ball so we can start to prove it.

Enough talk. It's time to play.

Oh, wait. We forgot to talk about Rubio.

Next time.

Nice stuff dude. How are you working it within the game regarding Rubio? Or does 2k11 account for draft rights? Damn I can wait for my copy to arrive! Monday I guess.

Nah, he's just my 15th man. I just won't ever use him. I don't mind his $2m odd contract since I'm well under cap anyways. I downloaded, then edited his CAP & added him to the Wolves, who conveniently had one roster spot open.

Would be great if the game did handle draft rights though. Probably a good 5-6 years away if we are lucky.

EDIT: Finished beautifying first few posts of this thread. All things going well I should be good to start season tomorrow.

Just finished playing a couple of games. I've got trade override OFF & CPU trades ON. I knew there'd be a few iffy ones in first season. First one is Thabo going to Lakers with 2nd Round pick for Sasha Vujacic :P

I knew Thabo would go in a bad deal. It happens in EVERY Association in the 1st year in 2k11. So I'll let that slide. I'm a couple of weeks in, that's the only trade to date. Iverson signed for MLE with Celtics as he does in EVERY Association. Rest of signings are minimum around the league & all make sense.

Funny trade offer. Hornets were trying to dupe me. Offered Ariza & Thornton for Love & rights to Ricky Rubio. Obviously didn't bother to counter offer

Question, is there any way to upload any specific photos from Pressbook? I don't want to upload 50+ photos every game, just the really good ones. Any ideas? Anybody tried it?
