Badger, are you talking to yourself? I like the idea of two teams in my home city of Charlotte.

Los Angeles Lakers
vs. Dallas Mavericks

Michael Finley and the Dallas Mavericks today made their way into the Great Western Forum where they faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers. The game was rough with nearly 6 players fouling out and many, many hard fouls. The hard fouls can be highlighted by a major foul by Glen Rice to Derek Harper. Harper was running the lane for a layup when Glen Rice grabbed him from behind and knocked Harper to the floor. Other than the amount of bruises that todays game caused, the players played extremely hard in this game and this can be highlighted by the co-players of the game, Shaquille O'Neal and Glen Rice whom had 22 and 25 points respectively. Michael Finley was carrying the Mavericks as down the clutch with his team down by 15 he narrowed the gap hitting a 2 three pointers and dunking on Nick Van Exel with a harsh And-1 (He missed the free throw). Shawn Bradley had a great defensive performance, with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks (2 notable blocks on Shaquille, who responded with 5 dunks on Bradley). Rookie Kobe Bryant had 18 points in tonight's effort, scoring 14 of his points in the first quarter. ESPN talked to Glen Rice after the game and asked him on how exactly they played tonight against the Mavericks. Rice responded by saying "Look, we played well down the stretch, but this game was much closer than it should have been. I noticed we were double teaming the ball-handler a lot and even though that produced some turnovers, it produced more 3-pointers for the Mavericks. Shaq played well, so did Kobe, Kobe's amazing. You remember this quote, in 10 years, that kid is going to have a few NBA Championships, and probably a few MVP's too. Quote that".

Los Angeles Lakers Player of the Game:
Glen Rice | 25 Points | 3 Rebounds | 1 Assists | 1 Steal | 1 Block | 9-11 FG | 2-2 3PT | 5-5 FT
Dallas Mavericks Player of the Game:
Michael Finley | 33 Points | 3 Rebounds | 1 Assist | 13-20 FG | 4-7 3PT | 2-2 FT

Breaking News! Tim Hardaway goes to Lakers.. Nick Van Exel goes to Heat!

In the latest trade in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers have traded their starting Point Guard, Nick Van Exel and Power Forward, Larry Krystkowiak to the Miami Heat for their starting Point Guard, Tim Hardaway and Shooting Guard, Voshon Leonard. The trade came after the Dallas Mavericks game where Nick Van Exel insulted coach Del Harris repeatedly over certain parts of the game. Harris reported this to Lakers management and they decided to cut ties with Van Exel and attempted to trade him to another team as they did not want to disrupt the harmony in the locker room. After hearing of the potential trade, Hardaway pushed to get the trade approved so that he could have a chance at playing with the up and coming Lakers squad consisting of Shaquille O'Neal, Glen Rice, Elden Campbell and Rookie, Kobe Bryant. Tim Hardaway told ESPN in an interview "Oh, I'm just so happy to play with the Lakers. Coach Harris called me and told me I'll be the starting point guard, and just knowing that I'll be playing with the likes of Glen, and Shaq.. Kobe and Elden.. Chuck, Robert, Derek, it's a good feeling knowing that you're going to a team that cares for one another. That cares about winning, rather than their stat sheets." Lakers fans have already begun sending in mail to the Lakers organization praising it for it's latest trades that have made the Lakers into a Playoff contender.

Good deal for you, but I like Nick Van Exel better as a person, and as a complement to Kobe.

I couldn't really get the hang of him on the court, so I thought maybe it was time for a change and they accepted the deal (which I think was great), seeing as I traded Exel + a scrub in Larry Krystkowiak for Hardaway and Voshon Leonard who has A- Potential. Cheers for the comments but Lamrock. :)

Good association! Who made the retro rosters?

I liked Nick the Quick... so boo @ seeing him go! But Tim Bug is awesome! Ah, the old days.

However, as a Lakers fan and Kobe Bryant fan, I am not happy he is starting in his rookie year. But this is your what if dynasty!

Still good work. Will be following.

This just come to me, I think he started Kobe so that in his later years he will become just some sort of a role player. Damn I hope that won't happen or else T-Mac will be the heir in Jordan's throne :D

clarkmylove made the rosters and I linked it on the opening post :)

Yeah I wasn't that much of a fan of Nick, more of a Hardaway fan.

I started Kobe because with no Eddie Jones I haven't really got a good shooting guard, I mean I could play Glen Rice at SG, and Chuck Person at SF but I think it would be better if I have Chuck with his shooting off the bench, Glen at SF and Kobe at SG, cause' he has a more well rounded game that Person does on the game.. and he's got an A+ potential :P

Cheers :)

Haha, Kobe has an A+ Potential, so I'm assuming that in his later years he'll be pretty amazing :P

Thanks for following guys, I should play the game against the Hawks today, maybe another tonight :)

Thanks for reading though Martti. :)

Kobe wasn't good enough that year to even match the great like mike, and i am not just saying this because i am a huge
MJ fan the fact of the matter is he was so young and fresh if Kobe from 97 could travel into the future and see himself i think
he would be surprised but man he was trusted with the ball a lot and choked a lot he tried to hard to be the best but he just wasn't ready
but good luck with your season man

Oh no dude! MJ would win hands down. As I said, by match up I mean have fun defending Jordan, and trying to score over Jordan and such. I mean trying to get him to have a good game against him haha, he's no where near Jordan, nor will he be for a few years.. in 2K.

Kobe is amazing in real life, but Jordan is just pure phenomenal skill. I look forward to playing against him though :) Thanks for the comment!

October 30, 1996 - post-Dallas Mavericks loss against the Los Angeles Lakers

Reporter: Shawn, you had a fairly good performance out there, notably your 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, how was that for you?
Shawn Bradley: I tried my best.. I got 4 blocks and a couple on Shaq..
Reporter: If I recall correctly, he responded quite well to those blocks.
Shawn Bradley: Yeah, he's big. A bit cocky. And yeah, he dunked on me, so what?
Reporter: 5 times.
Shawn Bradley: Ok, is this an interview? Or are you just going to keep doing this to me?
Reporter: Sorry, Shawn, I just call it like I see it. The fans want to know, what was it like?
Shawn Bradley: What was what like?
Reporter: Shaq dunking on you 5 times after you blocked him twice?
Shawn Bradley: Look, I blocked him. End of story.
Reporter: But he responded with 22 points, and the five dunks on you.
Shawn Bradley: And I had 10 points? With 9 rebounds AND 4 blocks.
Reporter: And he dunked on you FIVE times.
Shawn Bradley: This interviews over.

Yes... Yes. I played NBA Live 07 with 96-97 rosters by Tony Divence and always played with LA Lakers, because of Jones + Van Exel + Shaq duo.

Nice move for Tim-Bug, I was always a fan. This dynasty almost inspired me to do one of my own with the post Shaq Magic, but couldn't quite find the motivation without having a draft class file for the next few drafts. (Yeah I was gonna tank for a high pick :P)
