Offensive rebounds

Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:11 pm

hello guys, any tips out there, how can we balance the offensive rebounds?
the game is too unreal,
even my slider offrebounds set to zero,
there's still much offrebounds,
is it ok if we will set every players offensive rebounds to zero?
what do you think??

You can certainly give that shot. I don't usually have problems with offensive rebounds in 06 though, the ratio to defensive rebounds usually isn't too bad (certainly nothing like the issues in 2001 and 2002).

I forget since its been so long, but I think if you jump earlier or later than you normally would, you will have a better chance at getting the board. Utilizing any superstar rebounder also works because they fly ridiculously towards the ball.

I also forget whether there is a box out button or not. That would help.

You can box out by holding down on the right stick, same method as back down in 06.

i already did making everything zero in offensive rebounds. :cheeky:
still got high offensive rebounds both teams,
what i usually did is i let the cpu take the rebound,
any suggestion sir, what defensive and offensive strategy is better?

To be honest, I don't do anything special. I just do my best to box out and time my jumps appropriately. The CPU does tend to grab two or three rebounds in a row at times which is difficult to avoid, but like I said the ratio of offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds is usually fairly realistic for me.

Probably around 1:4, favouring defensive rebounds.

sir the aiact that your using is the one included in 3.7 update?
i'm using different aiact perhaps it affects?

Yes, that's the one I'm using. That might be the problem, though I was pretty much getting the same ratio with the default aiact too.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I figured why make a new one when there's one right here? Just asking for some general rebounding tips here for playing 3-4; I seem to do fine rebounding with 1-2's.

I'm using Andrew's NBA Live PC Project ... I think 4.x; Jonathan Bender is on active roster and the AI is more aggressive (though some old tendencies still remain). I've dumped the offensive/defensive rebound-sliders to be 0/0 for the CPU and 0/100 for the Player just for simplicity's sake.

I'm still getting an 2:! ratio of offensive-to-defensive boards from my bigs (Dwight Howard, KG, STAT, etc.) and an impressive amount of rebounds (1:2 ratio) from my guards (Kidd, D-Wade... even Earl Boykins!), but that might be from the sliders.

I don't know what I'm doing, but I rarely get double-digit rebounds. During foul-shot scenarios, I gently hold down on the right analog to box out, then gently move it up (if I snap it up or down, my player weaves around his opponent away from the basket) then tapping the rebound button... which sends him flying toward the basket like they were trying a put-back and flies underneath the basketball. It's a lot easier to pick up a rebound with a 1-2 because they just jump straight up. If I cycle control to one of the guards by the circle, the AI can't rebound with either team and the ball hits the floor. (Again, probably because the sliders are so low.)

Offensively, I'm not sure how the magic works, but my team does it better than their team. Both teams shoot at about 55% (sliders are at 40, difficulty at All-Star, speed is 32), both grab about 40 rebounds, but the CPU grabs twice as many defensive rebounds while I'd be lucky to break even.Image

Since I've floored the sliders, I figured the onus was on me. If I set both teams to AI, they put on a decent exhibition.

It is a bit easier than it should be to grab offensive rebounds in NBA Live 06 than it should be, not to the extent it was in NBA Live 2001 or NBA Live 2002 but the ratio is usually at least a little more even than one would like. I haven't ever encountered the problem you're talking about with bigs not going straight up for rebounds, but defensive rebounding is a bit harder than you'd expect because the CPU is also capable of grabbing three or four offensive rebounds in a row, even with the sliders down. Boxing out can help but other times it's better to just position yourself in anticipation of where the shot is coming off and press the rebound button a little early.

Just wanted to say "Thanks Andrew" -- it came down to boxing out and different timing for getting defensive rebounds rather than offensive rebounds. I can more easily grab my opponent's missed free-throw shots now, but I can't instinctively shift to "box out, go neutral so the AI looks up, then jump" to grab D-Reb; I'm too used to "L-Analog toward ball, JUMP!"

Again, thanks Andrew. Image
