Sliders for Realistic Stats

Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

The 3 point business

Postby nicosantos76 on Fri Jan 16, 2004 12:02 am

I've read a lot of complains about the CPU taking too much 3 point shots per game. The best and only real solution I've found to this is: before playing each game, go to the playbook of each team and select the right kinda plays for each team: for example side triangle for LA Lakers and 1-4 High for Orlando, this way you'll have Philadelphia running the floor, Dallas shooting a lot of 3 pointers, and each team playing the way the actually do in real games (the playbook for each team is in the forum). But you'll also get, in many games, a more slow paced offense on the CPU teams and maybe you'll find then necessary to increase the minutes per quarter you play. You'll also find that the number of transition plays will decrease unless you're playing against teams like Philadelphia.
So the right combo is: sliders + edited players + right plays.
Try this, it works in such a way you'll be surprised.
Good luck.

when i turn up the poor release shot from default to 35(both sliders), is it affect the number of rebounds? because i play 10mins per Q, i don't want get over 45-55 rebs in a game. i think it is so different from real NBA!how can i decrease the rebounds(e.g. 35-50 rebs)? the CPU always get more rebounds than me  !!

If you look at real NBA stats, rebounds per game go from a maximum of 47 to a minimum of 39 per game (current season).

andrew, how can u play 4x12mins so realistic? i used ur sliders for 4x10mins before, but still have easy to score over 30pts in a Q!! and the cpu is so many fast breaks and alley-oop  ! i just want to know the short, medium and long range shot % how is? and the poor release shot % is it use default better?? i don't want both teams get over 45 rebs a game!!

My style of play probably has a lot do to with it. I tend to play a half court offense, I take time setting up plays, and I make an effort not to exploit the pro-hop (I do use it when I need to get to the basket, but I don't abuse it).

How do you play at both ends? Perhaps I could suggest some slider tweaks that will be more suitable to your style of play.

Andrew is right. Its in your playing style. My style of play is use the 24 sec shot clock, use the right play for each team( which is posted in this thread also). My average is 94 ppg and opponnent is 84 ppg. The FG pct. is 35 - 55 %. The only problem i have is the problem of all, the 3 point shooting sucks and too few offensive rebound.

Can anyone post average Stats or the Range for specific stats from the real NBA, so everyone can fix or configure the sliders by his own for his gamestyle.

for example:
Stats per fullgame
Points 80-110 ~ 95
Rebounds 39-47 ~ 44

etc...

I also try and use the 24 second shot clock and try and set up my plays everytime down the floor. my last game i played was agaisnt the nets and Jason Kidd had a triple double against me 17pts 10rebs 11Assist doesnt get anymore realistic than that and Kmart has 25pts and 9rebs.

i m so difficult to control the cpu's defensive rebs! when i miss a shot, i m not easy to get offensive rebs! i played 4x11mins, both teams rebs also over 45  ! but it still quite realistic for the final result: both 2 teams get under 90pts :) !

User vs User Slider 6mins all star

Postby mmmchap on Fri Feb 06, 2004 3:38 am

Hi my league will be starting its season in the coming days (will give u site address once it is up already)

I wanna know if you guys can suggest what Slider Setting can we use.
basically most of the users that we have use the run-and-gun type of play. so most of our scores go as hight as 110+
here are some samples:
TOR vs NJ 110-92
No vs ORL 125 - 112
Por vs Min 100 -95
SAC vs SAN 97-107
LAL vs DAL 126-119

FG % are on the average of 49.6 - 68.0 (most of it are on the 55+ or 60+)
Blocks avg is: 10+
Steal avg is: 11 - 13spg

Our main concern is to make the score and the FG% lower: do you guys have any suggestions (aside from adjusting the values directly associated with score of FG like range etc)

Thank you so much.

The slider settings will automatically be saved on the PC version (though if you revert to the default sliders, they will be saved over your changes). If you're playing the console version, you can save your settings and re-load them when you desire. Note that if you revert to default sliders and save your settings, the modified sliders will be lost. Also note that when you reload settings, you will lose any NBA Store points you earned since you last saved your settings.

After playing 3 games back to back , testing nicosantos' theory that sliders + edited players + right plays = more realistic games, I have concluded that there may be something to that. I'm using Andrew's sliders (with a few of my own tweaks), fgrep's player edits, and the list of playbooks from this thread. I'm playing on Superstar difficulty with 9 minute quarters. Before these 3 games, I used to regularly score above 105 ppg while my opponent usually scored about 77 ppg. But since I started using the actual playbooks, well here's the scores from those games.

Philadelphia 63 Orlando 88 (I was Orlando)
Golden State 81 Denver 103 (I was Denver)
Minnesota 85 New Jersey 81 (I was Minnesota)

My only problem now is that I usually go to the free throw line a lot more than the computer. And, I usually get double the calls in my favor.

For example:
Fouls
Philly 13 Orlando 3
Golden State 14 Denver 6
Minnesota 6 New Jersey 12

Can anybody help me with this? Andrew, any suggestions?

I'm not sure what to do about the imbalance of free throw attempts. You could possibly up the reach in foul frequency a little so that you get into the penalty a little quicker.

i've got a couple of questions for all of you:

1st - i didn't see anything in any of the posts that showed slider settings for cpu watched ( cpu vs cpu ) games. does anybody have any good sliders for cpu vs cpu games or are the posted slider settings for both playing and cpu vs cpu?

2nd - and game result posters don't take this wrong, it's not meant as a slam - just a comment/question. i noticed a lot of game result posts are shown after playing a only a couple of games. in madden football, which has the same type of sliders, the slider posters were posting results after 100-250 games because every game can be a little different and produce complely different results even with the same teams playing and the same slider settings. you can only see the real results of the slider settings by playing lots and lots of games with the same settings.

I have a question about subs for the cpu?

Is it the higher the number, the more the cpu will sub or is it the lower the number?

I have mine at 80 right now, playing 9 minute quarters and the cpu subs weird.

What's a good recomendation for fatigue effect and cpu subs?

thanks

I've played 61 games in my Bulls Dynasty, and most of the time I get realistic scores. There will be the occasional game where my players are on fire or I'll be playing lazy defense resulting in higher scores, but I've also had quite a few low scoring games, and games where the final result has been about right for a typical NBA game.

But yes, it would be much more thorough to test the sliders over 100-250 games. :)

The higher the number, the more often the CPU will sub. However, a low fatigue slider will result in fewer CPU substitutions.

I recommend a setting of 50 for both fatigue and CPU subs. I find that it's a pretty realistic setting, though you might want to up it a little. Certainly no lower than 45-50 for either slider.

andrew - thanks for the reply on the slider testing. are your slider settings also for cpu vs cpu or cpu watched games? i know in the madden football slider settings, there was a difference between human vis cpu and cpu vs cpu.

i'm waiting for some modders that are working on a ncaa patch for nba live 2004. that's what i'll be using instead of the nba players.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else checked the theory that sliders + edited players + right plays = more realistic games? I have played more games since then and it's still holding more true for me (more true than the results I was getting from games without the playbooks) but I just wanted to see if anyone else had tried.

I've only tested human vs CPU. I'd say it's a safe bet that NBA Live 2004 also requires different sliders for a realistic CPU vs CPU game.

For 8 minute quarters, you might want to bump up the Game Speed in Global Sliders a little.
