My dad was drinking from an invisible soda can. He brought his hand up and I thought he was just looking at something or trying to wipe his face. I look at his face and his lips were puckered and he turned his hand as if he had the soda can in his hand, including bring the hand higher like he was tilting it for more soda. He also thinks there are a couple of men standing out by the mailbox. He probably thinks the neighbors trash cans are people, since there are a few of them on the sidewalk grass. Dementia is both scary and entertaining.

Maybe drinking that entire milkshake in five minutes wasn't a great idea...

About time to post this steam.

My application as a visual artist for a local TV network has been positive thus far; although the company advised me to wait for their call on when I'd start, the executive producer's gesture "Congratulations, welcome to the team bro." is enough for an assurance to me. They've told me to wait for two weeks.

Now all those weeks during my application I had to think over of my situation as a college teacher. I cannot do both jobs as full-time so I had to let one go and it's obviously the teaching job. This visual artist job is a great opportunity out of the academe as I promised myself that I won't be staying as a teacher forever.

Thing is, I told the college dean of my plans of leaving the school for good. Two weeks ago, the dean went on a leave for two days and if I delay telling her about my resignation (though no contracts in between semesters), the harder for the company to look for a replacement. So I gambled and emailed the dean about the situation, and I also sent the exact same thing to the school administrator.

This past Monday, assuming that everything's OK -- I went back to pack my things up and get my payments as a thesis adviser. I've held five thesis groups this past semester and it made me earn (supposedly) 8500 bucks (in Pinoy currency). When I got the cash check from the accountant, it only says 3400 bucks. And the accountant said that our dean "gave the list of payments to thesis advisers."

So I took my chance and waited for the dean to arrive to "settle" my resignation and ask about the lack of payment I had. When we talked, the dean told me that she was disappointed of my resignation because she got my teaching load ready the time I sent her the email and told me that it would be hard to find a faculty that can do programming and multimedia subjects. She said that what I did (sending an email regarding the resignation) is the most unethical thing to do (though I've got to admit that it is, I had no choice but to tell the dean as early as I could).

Now when I asked about the fee that I didn't get, the dean told me that she has "given" the fee to "others" -- probably other thesis advisers; for I -- according to her -- didn't do the job properly.

I asked the thesis groups about the matter and told me that I was as good as they expected. The other thesis advisers said that they didn't get the "additional fee" taken from my money that the dean claimed to have given them.

I have been told by the other faculty members that the dean has this habit of "taking what's not hers."

This sucks.

Pinoy :shake:

Maybe that's only a small price to pay compare to what you are going to earn in your other job.

Funny that she's accused you of being unethical when it seems like she's hardly a paragon of virtue herself. Guilty conscience, I'd say.

I could have given the dean the superkick that day.

Now I'm thinking if I'll be doing ways to get my money.

You can file a complaint to CHED but that'll take more of your time and money. However if you convince most of the faculty to file the complaint with you...

I consulted the problem to the other faculty members but they seem not keen with the idea of backing me up if ever I complain to the administrator.

One current co-faculty has said that she experienced the same thing when she first served as thesis adviser.

That's a shame, though I suppose they have to look out for their best interests. If you're leaving and they're not, you can afford to fight whereas they can't.

Yeah, and that's a standpoint. I might get the "why now?" reaction but I am certainly willing to help other potential "victims." I realized that the other faculty won't say anything because they need their jobs and certainly the dean would hit on them as she usually does.

Absolutely, if I were in your position I'd want to fight it too. Hard without the support and hard to garner that support when those people are fearful of repercussions.

So there is some sexual favors going on? Maybe that i why she didn't give you the full amount.

Not sure how it is in your country, but here you are payed for time served on the job. As long as there is some kind of contract or agreement that you have signed, you may be entitled to that missing money. You can always just jack her.

This is the Phillipines, it's a fourth-world country.

I can't even figure out the situation properly due to how our academic system is.

Seems like Jackal's the only one that can give Lean legitimate help here, though I think his ways will somehow be very very primitive yet effective.

Seriously, that's surprising stuff to be happening in colleges, even for Phillipines colleges. Wasn't there a contract you signed when you got the job as a teacher? First talk, then a lawsuit, I guess... That's how it goes here at least. Or if you want to go American way, just sue the college in every single possible way for maximum money.

There's a contract for being a teacher, and another contract for being a thesis adviser. Like, the college has a roster of faculty members and if granted the opportunity by the dean -- are eligible to be an adviser to the students' thesis.

The pay for being an adviser is given at the end of the semester. The dean lists the students who are under a faculty member/thesis adviser and gives a report to the accounting for the payroll.

Some co-teachers of mine are thinking that three from the five groups that I held last semester were written for "someone else."

...the opportunity on getting on that local TV network and (I just thought of this) the opportunity to hit Sweet Chin Music (or as what Andrew suggested -- the Stunner) on the suspect.
