Playoffs: 7-7-7-7

Well, I did say in the Afterword of my recently retired Nets Association/Dynasty Story Road to Glory that there was going to be a sequel. So here it is, not starting on the actual game yet as I am going to wait for a bit and see if the alleged patch will come into existence as well as myself needing some time to adjust, figure out a good set of rosters and settings for realistic results. However I am going to begin the story aspects and the preparatory work. So sit back, relax and have a little patience, it's coming.

Update: The Association will kick off at the start of the 2010 offseason.

I hope you will all enjoy this.

Prologue

Previously on Road to Glory I......

There was no road, In-front was a dead-truck stopped in it's tracks. Lai tried to veer away from the lane but it was too late.
Next thing Lai knew, was a loud crashing sound and his world went completely black.

✧✧✧✧✧

"Leo, Leo! Wake up!" Lai heard a voice calling, he tried to move but couldn't and instead felt only pain throughout his attempts. He opened his eyes and saw a white ceiling above him.
"God damn Leo, how long are you going to lie there for? Get on your feet already!" said a figure walking towards him, it was the voice he had been hearing calling him, recognizing his friend's voice, Lai got up with great efforts at last.
"Hey man" said Lai "What happened here? Didn't i have a car crash? What's this..."
"Huh, what car crash?" asked the person "Snap out of it already Leo, time to return to reality; And for god sake stop playing NBA 2K9 already would you?"
Lai looked towards the direction of his friend's finger, and seeing his computer with 2K9 running his New Jersey Nets association, began to come to his senses and remembered what had happened.....

He was playing in the first round of the playoffs as the top seeded team, and surprisingly was upset by the lower seeded Wizards. Bewildered and frustrated at the result, he went to bed with a mixture of those feelings. The car crash was apparently only a bad dream.....

"You have your head straight now? There's a call for you"
"Who's calling?" asked Lai
"No idea" answered his friend as he got the wireless and gave it to Leo.

"Hello?" Lai answered the call "Who's this?"
"I assume you've heard of the name Michael Jordan? I am calling on behalf of him"The voice on the other line replied and Lai laughed out loud as he heard the name announced.
"You're kidding right? You sure you have the right Leo Lai?" chuckled Lai as he continued to listen before frowning "No? you want to what?"
"Mr Jordan is requesting a meeting with you, regarding the possibility of a job in the front office at his newly acquired NBA franchise, are you available for a meeting, yes or no"
"........I guess I am available, name the date, time and location."
Lai listened and wrote down the details before hanging up the call.

✧✧✧✧✧

Leo Lai looked around, he was in the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, having just got off the plane and through immigration.

"Mr Lai I presume?" said a voice behind him, causing Leo to jump in surprise "I am here to pick you up"
Leo turned around and saw none other then the Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins
"I thought they would've sent a driver or something, not the GM" mused Lai as he extended his hand for a handshake"I am Leo, nice to meet you"
"Rod Higgins," replied Higgins as he took the handshake "This way please, Mr Jordan is waiting to interview you"

✧✧✧✧✧

"Welcome to Charlotte" a voice greeted Lai upon his arrival at the carpark "Please, come over to my office"
Lai saw a familiar figure that he had so very often seen in highlight reels, NBA games, and everywhere on the web. It was the 6'6" Hall of Fame player Michael Jordan, in person standing in front of him.
"No time to be star-struck Mr Lai" chuckled Jordan as he offered his hand "Nice to meet you, call me Mike"
Lai took the handshake "The honor is mine, Mike"
"So, i called you over here for an interview because I think you have what it takes to become our assistant GM" explained Jordan as they walked towards the office "I am looking for another voice to help Rod out and you are one of the candidates that I have been looking at"
Jordan opened the door to his office, showed Lai into the room, and continued "Now, if you are comfortable with it, lets begin the interview..."

"....Thank you for your time, I'll inform you the results of the interview in a few days" concluded Jordan "I have taken the liberty of arranging you a nice suite in the nearby five star hotel, i hope yo
u'll enjoy it."

Nothing's gonna happen until 2K decides to release the fix or tell us they are not going to though, don't want to have to restart due to bad timing of releases :?

Ok, the Cats. Will be fun, the Cats are actually popular now because they are good and not because they are the new team which simply sucks.

Good luck! And don't play too much 2k10 :D Bad dreams from playing ^^ that's good, actually you should have dreamed of Agent Zero drawing a gun in front of you ^^

Yeah, what a way to get to the milestone  Thanks for the advice, man. Hopefully I can stick with the Pacers when I assemble them in the offseason with all my favorite players. There's a hook, X :D

Yeah, Thierry should switch from "Association" to "Season" mode. (Y) Just kiddin' man.

Anyway, I bet this will be good. I don't know your team, but I bet there will be some asians in it. And add NLSC draftees. Gotta kick Sit's ass. :P

Not dynasties. "Stories". That last 2 weeks.

From "Association" to "Season" to "Month" mode. That would suit me better. :shake: But not again! :cheeky: Couple of aces under my sleeve.

Thanks for all the replies guys, 110+ views in just a day with just a prologue and the game not even starting yet, talk about a hype thread

Clutch, Congrads on the milestone man :chug:

Thierry., I trust those words are genuine this time? :) I dont like the Pacers (for some strange reason, i just hate them) but it's a good thing you are going to stick with it

hova-, damn, why didnt i think of that   shows how "creative" i am :shake:

Lamrock, Thanks man, hope you'll like the next chapter as well :P

Martti., I'll have to dispute that fact about asians in my team, but who knows :P As for NLSCers, i am still deciding whether to put you guys in, if i do, all the rooks from Road to Glory I will be placed in the draft, alongside the prospects from the upcoming draft (i think it was only Clutch)

De8, no worries, hope you'll enjoy this

Mark., Well, i hope you'll enjoy it no matter what team i use :P

I am currently figuring out (in my spare time away from studying for my exams this coming wk) a good set of rosters and sliders (Kova's rosters and Playmakers' sliders seem to be ok) and if 2K doesn't release their way overdue patch, i will start this as soon as exams are over.

Meanwhile, Chapter 1 will be coming soon (practicing my creative writing for the English exam  )

That's the idea man. :) If it makes you even happier, I had three games against this Bulls this February and lost all of them. Warrick and Murray were unstoppable. But you just wait until offseason and see the players I'm gonna acquire

Chapter 1

It has been 3 days since Leo Lai's meeting with Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Bobcats, he had enjoyed touring the city of Charlotte and was especially impressed with the fabulous lifestyle that the city had to offer.

"I am going to enjoy working here" Lai thought to himself as he headed back to the hotel following a nice dinner at the local restaurant "This place is great"
"Mr Lai?" said the receptionist when Lai went over for his key "You have a message from Mr Jordan. He would like for you to meet him in his office tomorrow"
"Thanks" replied Lai as he took his key and headed to his room "I guess it's time to sign that contract and get started then" he thought to himself as he went off to bed in the luxurious suite.

The next morning, Lai got himself up early and dressed as best as he could in his one and only Armani suit before heading off to his soon-to-be office.

✧✧✧✧✧

"Mr Lai? Please wait here while i inform Mr Jordan of your arrival" said the secretary as she picked up the phone and dialed into the office "Mr Jordan? Mr Lai is here"
"Please, go on in"
Lai walked into the room with a smile, but that quickly faded when he saw the look of distress on Jordan's face. A sense of uneasiness fell onto Lai as he approached the desk.
"Mr Jordan? What's the matter?"
"Leo, I know of your potential and the abilities you possess, but I can't hire you" stated Jordan
"What do you mean?" asked Lai, puzzled
"Take a look at this" said Jordan, handing over the newspaper on his desk. It was the daily paper in the sports section, with the headline More Mistakes for Executive Jordan? written on it.
"Oh...This problem..." Lai said in a quiet voice before pleading his case "But I can show them too, right? Give me some time and I'll prove them wrong"
"Sorry Leo, I just can't take that chance. My image has taken too much hits since my career as an Executive had begun and I need to do 'the right thing' here to redeem myself. I know you have the ability, but you are only 18 and have no previous managing OR coaching experiences. I can't do this" answered Jordan
"Right...I understan..." Lai said with his head down, failing at his attempt to conceal his disappointment
"But" continued Jordan "What i can do is refer you to another job in the business"
Lai looked up at this and couldn't believe what he heard, he was being given a chance after all "You serious?" he asked hopefully.
"Yes, I think I have just the right job for you." replied Jordan with a smile "How would you like it in the Windy City, taking over Gar Forman's Job?"
"I would like that very much Mike, Thank You so much" said Lai, barely hiding his excitement at the prospect of managing his favorite team
"Well, I'll make the call now, get yourself packed and ready to fly this afternoon" said Jordan before reaching for the phone "....You still need something?" asked Jordan when he saw that Lai had not left the room yet
"Kind of, I was wondering if you could..." replied Lai as he reached into his bag "..Sign this for me? I was a big Bulls fan back in the day" he was holding out an Authentic 1984 Retro Chicago Bulls Jordan Jersey
"Sure" Jordan smiled as he signed the Jersey "I look forward at seeing your career as an executive. Hopefully you won't make the same mistakes as me"
"Thanks Mike, Good Luck to you too" Lai said as he left the office

"Well, Mike did refer you. Although you have no experience, you have shown tremendous knowledge of the game and that's what i needed to see" said Chicago Bulls Vice-President of Basketball Operations John Paxson "Congratulations, you are hired"
Paxson stood up, shook hands with Lai before handing over a freshly printed contract. Lai briefly scanned it before happily signing it.
"I look forward to working with you Mr Paxson" Lai said
"Haha, call me John" replied Paxson "I presume you'll want to meet with the guys?"
"Naturally"
"I'll bring you over and introduce you then. They are practicing now"

The Bulls were scrimmaging when Lai and Paxson walked onto the court. Bulls head coach Vinny Del Negro stopped the scrimmage when he saw the two walking in and called over the guys
"Hey there Vinny, Guys. This is Leo Lai. He is the team's new General Manager" stated Paxson.
Every member of the team muttered quietly at this "This kid's supposed to be our GM? I have more years then him" Lai heard one said.
"Quiet down guys. Show the man the respect he deserves" Del Negro said before turning to Lai and offered his hand "I am the Head Coach Vinny Del Negro, nice to be working with you"
"Thanks Vinny, pleasure to meet you" replied Lai before addressing the players "I know what you might be thinking, that I'm too young and not qualified to take this position." he paused before continuing "But I guarantee I'll do a good job and make this team into a serious contender in about 2 seasons. I have high expectations of this club and great confidence in you guys. I only ask you to all listen to mine, John's, and Vinny's advice and play your hearts out and play within the team. If you do those things, you'll be rewarded" concluded Lai
The Players murmured amongst themselves before Derrick Rose approached Lai, extended his hand "Sorry if we had our doubts. Welcome to Chicago"
Lai smiled, took the hand and replied "It's my pleasure to be here"

Good luck man. I have some loyalty to the bulls from my younger years in jordan days and college years in illinois and i always catch myself pulling for them. Kick some eastern conference ass.
