"Big Country" Reeves was still around at that time too.

Yeah. Was sad to see him retire early. I always doubted his work ethic since he looked overweight all his career long. Otherwise, I liked him as a center for the team. He also kept Grizzlies fun to watch for first few years of team birth. Then Shareef was a nice addition. Sure was fun to watch. When he was on the floor, the team actually beacme different, like from miserable to less miserable. Good days... had passion for basketball myself back then.

Why do Americans insist on calling the winning team 'World Champions'?

I know that the best players in the world play in the NBA, but that doesn't mean they have the right to use the phrase.

Maybe if they beat the Euroleague champions in a 7 game Finals type series they could call themselves World Champions.

I mean, we in Australia don't call AFL premiers World Champions even though we have the best league in the world. :?

Because alot of the best players from euroleague almost always come over to play in the NBA and the NBA rejects go to Europe (Dee Brown for example)? Also think about. Euroleague isnt the only other pro basektball association outside of the NBA. There's Canada, the Phillipines, and China just to name the ones ive heard of. We'd have to play teams from all of those also to get a "true" world champion

Dont worry so much about it. its the NBA trying to hype their sport into being something more important than it really should be in anyones life. They do it in every pro sport i've seen in america. Baseball, Football (even though we're the only ones that play that form of football where feet only hit the ball on rare occasions), and Hockey all claim to be world champions when they win. Its just how it is. Nothing Personal, strictly business.

Because we're the center of the world, and the best country in the world. (Or at least we are again since Jan 20th, 2009!)
that doesn't mean they have the right to use the phrase.

According to the FSWisconsin announcers, the term originated before Europe was invented, and just stuck. And some guy called Tony is a douchebag for stealing their cookies.

Anybody knows who had the most gaming winning shots in NBA history?

Kobe Bryant with 27, surpassing Michael Jordan's 26 with the shot against the Grizzlies the other day.

I find that difficult to believe somehow.

As LeBron James and Vince Carter, for example, both had 17 and 16 respectively from 2003-04 to Feb 2009 alone. LeBron racked up 13 in a year and a half.

Although this posting seems to indicate Kobe only had 18 career as of a year ago.

That's obviously where the disparity is coming from, lists that have him at 27 or so are likely still including those eight that were disqualified from that list.

Lots of people seem to have their own criteria.

No, coaches don't get traded.

No doubt. If we're to extend the criteria to any shot made in the last minute that ultimately puts the player's team up with no further points being scored or lead changes, then we could give Michael Jordan plenty more game winning shots than the ones he's credited for. Otherwise, Kobe's list needs to be trimmed.

How is it determined how much a player should be paid? Is there criteria or is it just how ever much the team is willing to pay?

For example, is it possible for LeBron, Wade and Bosh to all accept a bit less money each to play on a team together?

Or is this not allowed in the spirit of fairness or something?

All your questions lead to the salary cap. Here's a quick FAQ:

Certainly possible, but unlikely for three players at the height of their earning power.

there was actually an article on ESPN a couple of days ago about this saying if each was willing to take 11 million instead of a max contract they'd start a dynasty that couldnt be touched.

I wonder if they've talked about it amongst themselves. :?

Interesting choice; possible multiple championships or a few more million to throw in the pile.

I have a weird feeling that a coach or a GM or someone was involved in a trade decades ago but I can't remember who was involved in it. It was a strange trade whatever it was. I think two owners actually traded teams as well as players but I can't recall what players were involved.

Do teams have specific dates set as to when they wear their alternate or throwback jerseys? I know that the Lakers wear their white alternates at home on Sundays, but that's pretty much it.
