I like that more because it allows the Wizards to get some big cap space with the contracts of Thomas (9M), Miller (9M), Foye (4M) and some minore ones expiring. So at least they can start to rebuild after giving up their two main guys.

Andrés Nocioni showed why the Sacramento Kings traded for him last season. The forward from Argentina scored nine of his season-high 16 points in the final four minutes as the surprising Kings had a 17-point lead at halftime for a 94-85 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, who suffered their second loss of the season, and the second against Sacramento, coincidentially. Nocioni and Kevin Martin teamed to lead the Kings to the win as the pair combined for 20 fourth-quarter points. With Sacramento hanging to a 71-60 lead entering the fourth quarter, Martin hit a layup with 5:17 remaining in it to spark a 13-4 run, that featured a pair of free throws and, after a dunk by Thunder's Russell Westbrook (finished with 15 points), a 3-pointer with two minutes remaining to give the Kings a 84-78 edge.

“We came into a tough environment in a really tough place to win, and we got out and couldn't dictate the tempo of the game,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “Sacramento got the game to go the way they wanted it to go. We climbed back into the game but they found a way late in the fourth quarter to turn the switch and get it to go their way. It really was a tough loss.” Rookie Tyreke Evans scored the next four points for the Kings before Beno Udrih capped the run at 94-83 with a layup with :37 remaining, and put together the clinching run with both Martin and Nocioni on the bench. “These guys did a great job. My feeling is, why bring in a new set of guys when they're rolling?” Nocioni said, talking about the trade rumors that could have Martin, Udrih and others out of Sacramento. “They were playing well, they had the momentum. And with us winning with them, that builds confidence. That's all that matters right now - winning.” Martin scored 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting as the Kings won their second in a row after the last-second loss at Utah.

As already said, the Thunder ended the third quarter with a 11-point deficit. The Kings pushed it to 89-77 on a 14-footer by Evans, but Kevin Durant (game-high 21 points) answered with a layup and James Harden (13 points) added a pair of free throws with 3:41 remaining to put it 89-81, but another rookie stepped up for the Kings, this time it was Omri Casspi (6 points), whose three-point play on a reverse layup put Sacramento ahead for good. “I though the group that played from about the 10-minute mark on played unbelievable. They executed, they passed the ball, they made the extra pass, and got some wide-open shots,” Kings owner and general manager Thierry Tirieux said in the after-game press conference. “I don't see names on the back of jerseys. All I see is Sacramento on the front. If you're out there playing the way you're supposed to, you've earned the right to be on the court.” Both teams shot 46 percent from the floor, and had similar numbers in almost every stat, except in bench points: 32-20 for Sacramento. “We came down the stretch and weren't quite sure where to be in our offense,” Harden said. “We couldn't execute at the right time.”

After only winning 17 games last season, the Kings are off to a much better start this year, at 5-3. As of today, we are riding a two-game win streak after beating Golden State and Oklahoma City. One major reason to get excited, Kings’ fan, is the development and maturity of second-year starting power forward, Jason Thompson. Along with Kevin Martin, Spencer Hawes and rookie Tyreke Evans, Thompson and the Kings are building a strong foundation for the future. Whereas major success is probably still years away from materializing for the squad; if we continue to draft well and develop our young talent, then we should return to playoff form. The days of Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Mike Bibby may be over, but a new core of high draft picks are now trying to regain Arco’s tough home advantage.

The 6-11 Thompson averaged just over 11 points and seven rebounds a game as a rookie and really sees the floor well for a big man. This season, he is playing a much larger role in the rotation: he dropped 13 & 11 Tuesday night against the Thunder, 13 & 11 against the Warriors, 14 & 13 against Memphis -- and is already being looked upon as a team leader by coach Paul Westphal. I must admit it will be interesting to see how the team reacts when Martin gets traded (it's a reality). I took him for a personal chat after the game.


Tirieux: In your opinion, how good will Tyreke be this season?
Thompson: The sky is the limit for him. He is a guy who can play the point and play the two. He is 6-6, strong and has a good physical body. He is a tough matchup and can really get to the paint with ease. Once he starts getting a lot of reps in and learning the game, then there's no roof for him.

Tirieux: What’s been the biggest difference between your rookie year and this season, Jason?
Thompson: I don’t have as many jitters as I did before. I have played in every city already and played in every home game. I think my game will get easier the more years I play. I have a lot of confidence coming in and I feel more comfortable.

Tirieux: After a solid rookie campaign, were you surprised at the lack of hype you received going into this year?
Thompson: No, I think that can happen when your team doesn’t do as well. I might have put up stats that people didn’t expect me to, but that is just the work ethic that I try to put in. I think that’s how you get respect and with the more national attention that we get, we hope to have more nationally televised games for next season. Then, I would be able to showcase the team and myself a little bit more and make myself more known nationally.

Tirieux: What has got to change this year for the Kings to be more successful?
Thompson: Players have been in and out. We really need to have a good core group of guys. Hopefully we can continue to have the same group of core guys and start gelling and getting the wins. We cannot always have the excuse of having guys being too young; there will come a time when we’re just not getting any younger.

Tirieux: Switching topics completely, the holiday season is upon us. Which is better: Thanksgiving or Christmas?
Thompson: I love both. I really like Thanksgiving because of the food -– even though the food is similar during Christmas time. I just love the turkey and macaroni and cheese. It is an excuse to eat unhealthy. I love Christmas too, who doesn’t love presents? I think it’s not the same as when I was younger -- when I was getting certain games -- but it’s the thought that counts.

Tirieux: What would be your ultimate Christmas gift?
Thompson: A yacht. When I have been in the League for a couple more years, maybe I’ll get a mansion. It’s something that you dream of and this is my dream. Since I was a little kid I dreamed of being in the NBA, so now that I am I can strive for other things that I want to get.

I also must say something about this. Forward Andrés Nocioni was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving by Sacramento Police and booked into Sacramento County Jail at 3:30 this morning, according to a Sacramento County Jail Web site. A Sacramento police spokesman said that at about 2 a.m. an officer noticed a motorist southbound on 15th Street near L Street whose vehicle was weaving within its lane, just a couple of hours after we won against OKC. The officer stopped the car near Ninth and L streets. The officer noticed that there was an odor of alcohol when speaking with the driver and Nocioni was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. I was going to do a small update on the Thunder's game but why waste my time when I can cover a DUI instead? I'm extremely disappointed in the poor judgment which led to your arrest, Andrés. But, he has already apologized to the organization and his teammates. This experience now becomes a life lesson learned the hard way for him, I guess. He said to us, “It was a huge mistake. I lost my reputation in just one day. That's why I'm deeply sorry for the team. It was disappointing and frustrating.” Now, as the owner of the team, I'm awaiting the outcome of the judicial process and the NBA's decision on potential fines (unlikely) and/or suspension (very likely).

One last update, doctors checked Spencer Hawes today and he will be available to play next week, against the Chicago Bulls. So, some good news...

While Tyreke Evans won the showdown with fellow point guard Aaron Brooks, the Sacramento Kings beat the Houston Rockets with, believe it or not, defense and a boost from a player from Israel. Evans had 19 points and six assists and rookie Omri Casspi tied his career-high of 11 points as the Kings won their season-high third straight game with a 104-81 victory over the Rockets on Friday night in a game nationally televised on ESPN. “Tyreke played big minutes and they didn't have any answer for him,” Sacramento coach Paul Westphal said. Houston didn't have any answers at all in losing for the sixth time in the last seven games. With Yao Ming out for the whole season, the Kings limited the Rockets to a season-low 16 points in the third quarter and were never threatened. Houston shot 42 percent for the game, including another season-low, 4-of-20 from 3-point range.

Sacramento controlled the Rockets' 1-2 punch of Trevor Ariza and Luis Scola, with the former Laker scoring a team-high 22 points but on 3-of-11 shooting from 3-point territory and Scola posting only 11 points. “Trevor and Luis are very good players and we were able to defend them,” Casspi said. “That's how we won the game. If we play defense like that, there is less pressure. We were in a lot of help defenses and we all helped out to shut those guys down.” Brooks also struggled in the game against Evans, scoring 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting; Evans was outstanding in providing some unexpected offense. The Kings' rookie from Memphis hit 9-of-16 shots, but couldn't hit from beyond the arc (0-of-4). “With Tyreke I always felt he was going to do a very good job,” Kevin Martin said. “The most important thing was that he got confidence and become aggressive and not afraid to take shots. It's going to bode well for him in the future.” Martin racked up a game-high 31 points. Rockets backup point guard Kyle Lowry had a season-high 15 points for Houston, which trailed by 13 points in the second half.

The only good news for Houston was the return of Tracy McGrady to a basketball court. “It felt great to be back. You have no idea what I went through. No idea. I was so anxious to get back out there. I don't have to prove anything to these guys. I'm a seven-time All Star. I have the individual accolades to show that I can play the game. I needed to prove something to myself,” McGrady said; he finished the night with 11 points and four assists. “Playing wasn't even on my mind. I kind of felt like this was the week I would be back, but I didn't think it was tonight.” Sacramento never trailed in the game after Casspi hit a jumper, Andrés Nocioni (10 points) scored in the lane and Martin followed with a 3-pointer to push the lead to 64-48 at the middle of the third quarter. After Scola followed a miss by Brooks, Nocioni converted a four-point play and Casspi hit two free throws to give Sacramento a 70-52 lead. “They came out with a little more energy,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “We looked dead tonight.” For Sacramento, Hilton Armstrong had 2 points but a career-high 13 boards.

Thompson's playing really good. He may not had a lot of offense against the Rockets (this last game) but is very active in the rebounding aspect. The Nocioni drunk arrest actually happened in real life.

Wow... he's playing really good here. I would say he's the 3rd offense weapon after Martin and Evans; Nocioni is more for open 3s. Don't want you to run away and never post here again, but the Lakers are like 4-8 and 14th in the conference

Yeah I would say the Bulls are the easier of the 3 games. Rose is playing really good so far for them, so, it's gonna be a great matchup

I tried some trades for Udrih, Nocioni and Garcia:

• Udrih + Sean May for Udonis Haslem ($7m expiring, but I like him so I may re-sign him, this will give time to Rodriguez too)
• Nocioni + May + Udoka for Bobby Simmons ($10.5M expiring)
• Garcia + Udoka for Brian Cardinal ($6.7M expiring)

Oh, you're right hova. I was just thinking in my offseason I'm gonna sign Haslem in June then. But how would you trade Udrih or Noc, then? I have a list I made of all the $5m+ expiring contracts and I'm going from there, so I guess I should acquire some of these players for teams not trying to rebuild?
