Same here. Can't Help But Wait is my fave Trey Songz song. Have you heard anything off of his new mixtape 'Anticipation'? There's some pretty good songs on there. Anyway, don't sign Johnson! I wanna see Ty develop into an all-star! :P

You just reminded me to go and get the mix tape. Thanks man. :)

And Chara and Durant don't hate each other. (Y) So hell will not break loose! Coach K did coach Chara so he has a great chance to make Team USA ahead of Durant. :)

US should have a good team. Shame Rubio & the Spaniards will steal the Worlds as Durant pouts about being 12th man :P

Hope the 3 guard offence of Moore, Watson & Penney is enough to get the Kiwis to the last 8 (Y)

Thierry, Team USA may win this fictional 2010 World Championship. :)

Valor, I was very disappointed that Miller would not re-sign. We really needed him to stay on board. :(

X, in my virtual world of the NBA, Rubio does not exist. :P And Durant may not be 12th man. You shall have to wait and see about it!

Martti, as I said to X, in this virtual version of the NBA, Rose does not make the cut.

But isn't Rubio still in Spain & never declared for draft?

Then again, easy to forget the parallel universe this revolves around :P

Maybe I will just blame it all on Dan Fegan! :)

But yeah, Chris Hova replaced Rubio as the European PG prodigy but I don't think it will pan out that way. He's over-hyped. :)

Chapter 22

Kevin Durant was alone in the hotel once again. His teammates were out on a team dinner as the Stealth forward opted to stay behind. He looked aimlessly at the four walls that bound him from the outside world. Turkey was a foreign place to Durant and one would think that the youthful mind would choose to explore the different kind of nightlife the country had to offer. After all, Coach K had told the team he would make an exception on the team’s agreed curfew seeing that the tournament had not started yet. Still, Durant chose to stay alone in his hotel room as the rest of the playing group had gone out to entertain themselves and explore. Durant used to be an outgoing personality but these days, he felt lonely. For a whole year he had been hurting inside. The worst part was that he hid it from everyone. No one knew the pain in his heart and no one knew that basketball was just something to force him from thinking of the issue.
Tick tock, tick tock, an old wall clock was the only sound in the room.
Durant was now staring up at the ceiling. He’d put down the book full of plays that he had to memorize and was now thinking. Had he been too harsh to the rookie all of the last year? Was he doing enough to get his teammates involved? Should he have called Brad Miller to ask him to stay in Seattle? The questions kept racing through his mind. No answers came to him. The only thing remotely close to one was his own recurring opinion; he had too much pride to change any of the issues.
If anyone wants to play on my team, they play by my rules! he thought to himself.
He then began to wonder aloud, “I wouldn’t even play on my own team.”
Durant was confused. He would soon doze off – all of the travelling with Team USA had taken its toll. Durant was physically a wreck and emotionally even more so. The World Championships would begin soon though and at least that would take his mind off of things again. It just would not come soon enough.

Sit had put the phone down. He had just been in touch with the agent of Hawks star Joe Johnson.
“He’s keen man,” Sit said to Vince Thompson.
Thompson had come over to have lunch with the GM, “You know that I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Why?” Sit asked.
Thompson was blunt, “You already have a dickhead in Durant. Then if you add another ego in, it’s going to ruin everything. Not to mention that you have Kidd around as well as guys like Morrison and Tyson. All of them want the ball.”
Sit retorted, “But we need a secondary scorer. No one else cuts it.”
“I still don’t know why you don’t stick with Tyson.”
“Man, I’m not the coach.”
“I know,” Vince nodded, “Tell Coach Karl to start him.”
Sit laughed, “That’s what I did. He wasn’t happy. He’s blaming me for the team not making the Finals.”
Vince was mad, “You kidding me? The kid was the reason you made it to the Western Conference Finals!”
Sit shrugged, “Well, all I can say is that Tyson needs more time to develop as a player. He’s not ready.”
“I still think you should look elsewhere and sign someone not called Joe Johnson.”
“It won’t ruin team chemistry,” Sit assured Vince, “Trust me.”

With the departure of Brad Miller; Adam Morrison and Sebastian Telfair had some thinking to do. Miller had made some comments that made the two wonder if it was worth sticking around in Seattle. Both guys also felt slighted that the team had immediately signed Trevor Ariza as soon as they could have. Morrison and Telfair agreed to keep in contact over the Summer to know about what each would decide to do. This time it was Telfair calling Morrison.
“Has the team called you yet?” Telfair asked.
“Yeah, they have,” Morrison answered.
“And?” Telfair was interested.
“Nothing much. Same old thing, seeing how keen I am.”
Morrison’s agent was pushing for his client to get a big five year deal. Seattle only wanted to offer him a three year deal. Telfair was in the opposite boat with the team wanting a long term deal with him; Telfair wanted something shorter. At the end of the day though, one thing really made the two feel snubbed.
“I can’t believe they are ready to dump us for Joe Johnson,” Telfair griped.
Morrison stayed silent and Telfair continued, “Can you believe it man? After how far we got this team?”

Reshawn Tyson was bench pressing with his childhood friend Rocky Akonnor.
“I’m blessed man,” Ty said.
“Because you’re a freak?” Akonnor guessed the reason why.
“No, because me and you are making it in the big league!” Ty laughed.
“I’m glad that you’re getting better man."
Ty smiled, “It was taking a while.”
Ty finished his last set, struggling to get through his eighth and ninth rep. He stood up and grabbed his towel, wiping the sweat off of his forehead. Martti Must then came in to the weights room.
“My man!” Ty high fived the lanky Estonian.
Must had a friend in tow and he introduced him, “Ty, Rocky, this is Ray.”
“Ray Lliach?” Akonnor asked.
Ray nodded.
Akonnor was an avid follower of college basketball and walked forward to shake Ray’s hand, “Props to you man. You did a great job with UConn. That game with the Bruins was brilliant.”
Ray was shy and didn’t say anything as Akonnor went on to wish him luck in LA with the Clippers. Martti then bragged about how his Grizzlies would finally make the playoffs again and the four of them went outside to play on the basketball court. The game of two on two would last for an hour before they cleaned themselves up and went out to enjoy a night on the town.

Team USA blitzed the competition. Their squad was just so much better than the rest of the world. Their first real challenge came in a quarter final encounter with Spain. Ricky Rubio, Pau Gasol, and company crashed to an early exit from the World Championship. The United States knuckled down on defense but found it difficult to score against a feisty Spanish full court press. Rubio was giving Chris Paul and Gilbert Arenas fits as they struggled to bring the ball up.
“Come on!” Arenas would yell in vain as he was once again stripped of the ball.
Rubio, originally slated to enter the 2009 NBA Draft, had decided to stay in Europe until the end of his contract. He had shown potential and experience beyond his age during the 2008 Olympics. At these World Championships, he boasted a much improved scoring touch. He was still thin as a twig but at 6’5” and with exceptional court vision, Rubio was a handful. His tenacity on defense really set him apart from the rest of the guards on Spain. Spain stayed close with Team USA for much of the match but in the fourth quarter, Moses Chara would take over.
“You see this?” Chara would shout at the Spanish bench after hitting a three, “You heard it. You seen it! I’m Moses Chara. Remember my name. Oh wait, do y’all speak English?”
The players were outraged and Marc Gasol got up and charged at the cocky American. The refs stopped the game and ejected the younger brother of Pau Gasol. Chara heckled his opponents as the crowd booed.
Coach K was annoyed but didn’t yank him out of the game, “Moses, get back here!”
Durant sat on the bench and shook his head; Moses was Coach K’s favorite and he could do anything he liked. Soon-to-be NBA rookie Jay Gray turned to Durant, “If it wasn’t for Coach K, he would be benched right now.”
Chara went on to hit three three point shots in a row to push the United States lead to double digits and knocking out Spain.

Sit rang George Karl on the two-way, “George, you’ve got to come in to town in three days.”
Karl asked why and Sit replied, “Press conference to announce our big signing.”
“So I’m guessing you got who we wanted.”
“Yes.”
Sit could picture Karl smiling on the other end, “Very good.”
“I will see you first thing in the morning then. Hope you have a good trip back.”
Sit then dialed Jason Kidd’s cell, “Jason, you need to come in.”
Kidd, the team captain, was back in town and practicing with some of his Stealth team mates. He agreed to rock up to the team’s headquarters to meet the manager. Sit would then go on to invite David Lee and Jeff Green to do the same.
The last person Sit called was Vince, “Hey man. I need you to leak to the media that we’re signing Joe Johnson.”
“Ok…” Vince was unsure what Sit was doing.
Sit could tell that Vince was uncertain, “Just do it man. I will get the secretary to organize the press conference tomorrow. I just need some buzz.”
“I can do that,” Vince stated whilst thinking, What an attention whore.
Sit sat back in his seat and looked across the table, “I’m happy that you’re joining our team. We really needed a starting two guard.”

You make Joe Johnson sound like a prima donna. I've always had the notion that Johnson was pretty comfortable deferring his role to his teammates and an overall unselfish player. I think he'd be a pretty good complimentary player for Seattle.

Weird. I have this odd feeling that you didn't get JJ and are just getting your buddy Vince to leak it out to the media as a bluff. I'm probably wrong though. Anyway, great chapter as usual, despite the fact a Durant-Chara brawl doesn't seem likely.

I love this chapter. Bringing in JJ might be the next step although you really give up two guys of your core rotation in Morrison and Telfair. Chara is such a dickhead ^^ I love how you describe him. Like every cocky freak KD has problems inside. His mind seems confused. If he doesnt change than I hope you let JJ take over and trade KD for a solid big man. How would that be? (your answer: KD wont be traded in a while) -.- ^^
