You mean in total by every player who's ever played in the NBA? Several million.

Yeah but, how many millions? :)

I seem to remember a note about the eight millionth point being scored about ten years ago (maybe more), so I'm guessing easily in excess of ten million by now.

Same reason players do.

i was wondering that the NBA trade dealine was over, but why do teams could make some buyouts like drew gooden annd joe smith do ???
and, could they join any team to play on the Playoffs ??

Re: The "Have You Random NBA Question Answered" Thread

because a buyout is not a trade. They can join a possible playoff team but they have join that team before a cutoff date.

Re: The "Have You Random NBA Question Answered" Thread

Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:47 pm

so, when is the cutoff date ?? i believe it's before playoffs

I don't know about the cutoff date for signings, but the deadline for buyouts was this past sunday, midnight eastern time. A player waived before that deadline is eligible for playing in the playoffs on another team. So Smith and Gooden can sign with whomever they want and play in the playoffs ... and it doesn't matter if they sign today or next week (although they'll probably be signed sooner rather than later).

I believe the cutoff is simply the beginning of the Playoffs (or very close to that date), so long as any players who must be released first are cut loose by March 1st.

Is something like 10 rebounds and 10 assists a double double? I mean if points are not in double digits but two other categories have double digit numbers, would it still be a double double? (only asking cuz weird Live 08 simengine keeps giving me numbers like 10 rebounds and 10 assists from Shaq)

Yes. A double-double refers to reaching double digits in any two of the five basic statistical categories (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks).

I take it players have numbers to make it easier to keep tracks on who has how many fouls.
so why do refs have numbers?

another one. why do they stop the clock for free throws?

Re: The "Have You Random NBA Question Answered" Thread

Thu Mar 05, 2009 6:10 pm

Because it could give the defensive team an unfair advantage if they have the lead. They could kill clock just by fouling and not playing defense.

well in football they don't stop the clock for fouls. so that's why I wondered why they didn't do the same for basketball. I didn't think about people exploiting it to get an unfair advantage. it hasn't anything to do with my sense of understanding. if you want to talk about people's lack of understanding, start with your own grasp of the english language.

I don't like that you can make 6 fouls in basketball before you have to go either. or how certain things are considered fouls and others aren't.
