The Nowitness - A Dallas Mavericks Dynasty

Image

Posted a Mavericks Dynasty earlier, tried a little story but I quickly realized that I wasn't a good enough story writer to follow up. Then Came 2k11 and suddenly, desire came anew to create a new Assoc. No story this time, just recaps and maybe a blogger style. Here are a few notes to start.

Ian Mahinmi and Alexis Aijinca were slightly boosted in stats. Just enough though that they would be decent options in the future. I wanted to try to do as the Mavs are doing IRL and keep them around as projects. The boosts are mostly in awareness and bits in rebounding - Suggestions in balancing them would be appreciated.

Still not particularly good with graphics, but screens will be present. No videos though, Internet connection + patience won't allow the uploading. I'll try to refrain myself from blowing up the team this time. Can't say that I won't be looking though.

Quarter Length: 9 or 10 Minutes (going for a few test runs to see if stats get too bloated with the pace I usually run)
Sim Length:12 Minutes
Difficulty:All-Star
Sliders:Simulation

Prospect Scouting:Automated
Pre-Draft Workouts:Automated

All other settings are default or untouched. Hope you enjoy my work.

Finley returns to the Dallas Mavericks via Free Agency

Image

6 seasons departed from his last game as a Dallas Maverick, Michael Finley will suit up once again in blue and white. The former All-Star departed the Dallas Mavericks following the 2004-2005 season via the "Allan Houston Rule" which allowed the Mavericks to waive him and avoid a major hit from the luxury tax.

"To be honest, I really did want to retire with the Mavericks but I realize why that had to happen. I'm just excited to be here once again." said Finley of his release. "This is a very different team from when I left. Much better from a defensive standpoint and to be honest, with this much talent, I don't think a championship is out of the question."

Said Dirk Nowitzki of Finley's return: "He's going to be a great addition to the team. First time I saw him again in the locker room, he was quick to show me that ring he got with the Spurs - Still rubs it in every opportunity he gets. But joking aside, he's the only guy on this team that has a ring.I think that experience will be important at points. And while maybe he has slowed down a little, he's still solid in many ways and very able to contribute. Very glad to have him back."

In related news, Center Alexis Aijinca was assigned to the Texas Legends in order to make room on the roster for Michael Finley.

The Dallas Mavericks will open their season against the Charlotte Bobcats on October 27.

-Added the Lineup. I was planning to place the pictures of the Bench side-by-side, but as I mentioned earlier, I'm not very good with graphics so the uneven cutting shows up.

thanks mp3, really hope this works out.

Mavs Acquire Leon Powe, 2012 1st Round Pick in exchange for DeShawn Stevenson
Image

The Dallas Mavericks acquired Forward Leon Powe and a 2012 1st Round Pick from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Guard DeShawn Stevenson.

Stevenson came to the Mavs as part of the trade that also sent Forward Caron Butler and Center Brendan Haywood to the Mavericks. Leon Powe came to Cleveland after the Boston Celtics opted not to match the Cavaliers' offer sheet. Powe was part of the 2008 Boston Celtics Championship Squad and holds career averages of 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Thierry, so am I. i wanted to swing a trade for Nash but that would bust up the team

Slight delay. school first yada yada and all that.

As for the Powe trade, I wanted to give DoJo minutes earlier in the game - where Deshawn is usually placed by the autosubs. Powe gives me a viable backup PF.

You should have downloaded a retro mod then (for 2k10) That would have been a nice story. Nice addition in Powe.

Mavericks Overcome Late Rally, Defeat Bobcats 95-87

Image

The Dallas Mavericks held back a Stephen Jackson led 14-4 run late in the 4th Quarter to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats in their Season Opener. Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 points while Caron Butler added 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Mavericks to the 95-87 win over the Bobcats.

Jason Terry started the game hot by scoring 8 points in the 1st Quarter but only managed 4 more points after having the size differential abused by both Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace. Shawn Marion 11 points in his stead and made key stops in the 3rd Quarter Breakaway of the Mavericks.

Charlotte Forward Stephen Jackson scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Bobcats, scoring 10 on 5 for 10 shooting against Jason Terry but had difficulties facing Shawn Marion, only shooting 3 for 11 to finish 8 for 21 overall. Gerald Wallace had 16 points, 11 rebounds while also adding 2 steals and 2 blocks.

"Yeah, It's nice to start off the season with a win but there are definitely still many holes to work on." Said Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle. "We allowed what, 18 points off our mistakes? We can't have that happening in April or we'll be going fishing early again."

Game Notes

- Michael Finley and Dominique Jones both went scoreless in their debuts. re-debut in Michael Finley's Case.
-Tyrus Thomas fouled out in the 4th Quarter. Stopping Dirk Nowitzki proved too much of a task for him as he committed three fouls in the 3rd Quarter alone.
-Rodrigue Beaubois and Shawn Marion apparently are sharing the 6th Man role as they entered in pair for most of the game bar around the 3 to 8 minute mark of the 4th Quarter where the Bobcats staged their run.
-DJ Augustin has stepped up as the Bobcats' primary starting point guard with 15 points but the lack of offensive options became apparent as he only managed 4 assists.

@Thierry, I'm having him share the 6th man role with Shawn Marion, but I couldn't keep him from getting pushed around by Cap'n Jack. He's likely to start games but later in the season.

@z02, I kinda prefer starting with an offensive lineup so that i'm more likely to be ahead before they mount a superhuman comeback. seriously, Diop and Derrick Brown hitting fadeaways over Dirk and Marion? feels too much like 2k9.

Grizzlies hang on to defeat the Mavs, 98-97

Image

Despite the Nowitzki, Butler and Terry combining for 74 points, The Grizzlies defeated the Dallas Mavericks 98-97.The Grizzlies were led by Rudy Gay's 28 points while O.J. Mayo added 26.

The Grizzlies sped to early leads of 10 and 13 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters but the Mavericks kept it close by shooting 46% from behind the arc despite only shooting 39% overall by the 3rd Quarter. But turnovers got the better of the Mavs as Jason Kidd totaled 7, almost matching his assist total of 8. The two other Point Guards that played for the Mavs, Rodrigue Beaubois and JJ Barea each had two turnovers while ending up scoreless.

The Mavericks had three attempts in the closing minute of the game to take the lead but came up empty everytime. Marc Gasol sealed the result by blocking a two-handed dunk attempt from Shawn Marion.

"Yeah, the score was close but the game we played, Terrible to say the least."Said Coach Rick Carlisle of the Mavs loss."Turnovers and missed open shots, It was surprising that we even managed to get this close."

Game Notes
-Tyson Chandler left the game in the 2nd Quarter after a hard foul by Marc Gasol. He will reportedly be out for 1-2 Weeks because of a strained abdomen.
-As mentioned above - Nowitzki,Butler and Terry combined for 74 points. Dirk had 33, Butler with 22 and Terry had 19. No other Mavericks player got to double digits in scoring. While only two Grizzlies had double digit scoring, the points were still spread around as only Tony Allen and Sam Young were unable to score.

I had no problems with Gay and Mayo scoring. I actually went up by 10 at a point because those two were the only ones scoring. But when Hasheem started making 18-foot covered fadeaways and Xavier Henry went and rode all my players, the game started swinging. losing Chandler became a problem too because Leon Powe at Center is not ideal

Mavs use late surge to blow past the Clippers 96-87

Image

With Chandler being out, Brendan Haywood was the man in the middle for the Mavericks, anchoring there defense with 8 blocks to go along with 4 points and 6 rebounds. His presence was vital in setting the early tone for the game and his absence was clearly felt when the Clippers made a 14 point lead disappear in the 3rd Quarter. The rest of his teammates followed his lead as the Mavs totaled 16 blocks.

Jason Terry led the offensive charge with 22 points. Nowitzki struggled with his shot all game but managed to finish with 16. Caron Butler had 19 on 8 for 10 shooting.

The Mavs used a 2nd Quarter run led by Rodrigue Beaubois who scored 10 of the Mavericks points in a 16-2 run. The Clippers answered by tying the game in the third Quarter, where Griffin and Aminu combined for 22 points.

The Jasons, Kidd and Terry both recorded steals that led to a pair of Terry Jumpers in the final two minutes to close off any hopes of a Clippers win.

The Clippers rookies, Al-Farouq Aminu and Blake Griffin both had double-doubles with 18-12 and 16-17 respectively. Eric Gordon had 17 points but only shot 4-21. Baron Davis also struggled with his shot, finishing with 10 points on 4-13 shooting.

Mavericks overcome Carmelo Anthony's 55 to win, 131-130

Image

The Dallas Mavericks out-dueled the Denver Nuggets down the wire in front of an audience of 16,000 people in what could be the game of the year to win 131-130.

The Game opened with a duel as Dirk and Carmelo scored the first 10 points of the game - Dirk scored 14 in the opening quarter to Melo's 8. But the Nuggets turned two Nowitzki misses into early fast-breaks to take an early 7 point lead. But the game was quick to change colors in the first as the entry of Shawn Marion and the adjustment into a zone defense turned a deficit of 3 into a Mavericks lead of 5 with Nowitzki and Butler somehow recording 3 blocks each in the quarter. The Mavericks ended the quarter by stopping the last Nuggets attempt with a Kidd steal and dishing to Shawn Marion for a corner 2 on the break with 3.2 left.

The Nuggets opened the 2nd Quarter strong, tying the game 3 minutes in, seemingly having solved the zone and forcing the Mavericks to multiple turnovers. But as the quarter went on, the Nuggets went cold and slowly faded into the Carmelo Show. Beaubois went 4-4 in the Quarter and Butler added 7 of his own to keep the Nuggets off, But Carmelo seemt unstoppable, even hitting a turn-around fadeaway over an outstretched Shawn Marion, totaling 28 by the end of the Quarter and 55 by the end of the game. The Nuggets ended the half ahead by 1.

The tides turned again in the 3rd as the Mavericks went hot from three point land, Terry hitting off a Double Teamed Dirk and Butler making one off a fastbreak initiated by a Haywood block. But Anthony's efforts kept the Nuggets from falling behind in a big way. The frenetic pace of the game continued, with threes raining from both sides. But too many turnovers caused the Mavericks to lose the lead, but a Terry Jumper off the inbound with 1.8 on the clock cut the Nuggets lead to 1 ending the quarter, 99-100.

The fourth had an unlikely hero changing the momentum once again, as Ian Mahinmi altered a Carmelo Anthony throw down. Leon Powe also made key blocks against J.R. Smith and Chauncey Billups. after sitting most of the 3rd Quarter, Dirk continued the pace he started, covering the offensive end for the Mavericks, hitting key shots in the last 5 minutes. Jason Terry hit an and-one with a minute to go to put the Mavericks up by 5, but Aaron Afflalo hit a pair of threes, including one with 4 left on the clock to put the Nuggets up by one. But Dirk Nowitzki played the part of hero one last time as he sank a 20-Foot two point jumper with 2.1 left. Chauncey Billups' last attempt to tie the game with a 23-Foot jumper went off the rim as the clock expired.

@mp3 - we were going at it at quite a pace, so it was more the number of possessions than my relative skill in blocking  Melo went like 26-41, i'd say only 5 of those misses were actual misses and not blocks

I'm going to be out for quite a while soon, so I'll try to give a two or three game special come Tuesday. A little Christmas gift to the readers and commenters.

I'd like some opinons on the Jones-Ilyasova swap. No deal until three (Y) s.

Advanced Merry Christmas All. :D

@Thierry, That's completely my fault. I just can't get myself used to 2k11 so a lot of bad decisions that I could get away with in 2k10 keep getting made here .sucks to be my main ball handler, instant x5 to your average turnovers
