Turrible offseason if that's your finalized roster, but it is certainly realistic. :P

Can't wait for the season Hov. As Lamrock said, not the best roster out there, perhaps a deal in the season and you could make a late playoff push.

Yup basically Seattle will rely on Chase and Evans, but if Evans will not sign an extension then maybe its best to trade him.

Valor, just thought I could add him to keep him in the story. I don't have a real story going on like Sit does anyway, so he won't be mentioned too often.

Lamrock, I thought the same at first, but honestly, the 2011's FA class without Melo just sucks. So I feel like it was a good decision to rather spent little money for some role players than throwing it out of the window by signing Marc Gasol, Thad Young or Zach Randolph for shitty contracts. The roster is not really weaker than last year. We've lost Dalembert, Thompson, Garcia out of our key players, instead got Chase, West (I've played the preseason and I love him) and Maxiell & Mohammed under the basket.

But you're right, I'd still rate my roster as the 2nd or 3rd weakest one, just wait until you see what the Bobcats did as they basically started from scratch and their roster looks like their expansion draft roster without Emeka.

Thierry •, I'm also eager to see what we can do with this one. I need to make the 9th or at least a "good" 10th place or I'm out!

dare, that will be a decent story to be made up, wether or not Evans can be the face of the franchise for years or gonna try to get out.

Thx for your replies. Will post one or two reports that complete offseason and start with the preseason then.

Agreed about the 2011 free agency class. Not looking good for my Wolves either. Will have to strike it lucky in 2011 Draft or just wait until 2012 to pounce :(

███ NBA preseason to start on October 18th
NEW YORK (AP)

The NBA preseason will start on the 18th of October 2011 with the Bucks playing vs the Knicks at 0² World in Berlin.

The preseason will see each team playing 7-9 games and 15 of these games won't take place on the American continent.

The Los Angeles Lakers will move on to Mexico City to play two games there, whilst the Seattle Sonics will play at Vancouver and the San Antonio Spurs will have one game at Buenos Aires to let other American countries feel the joy of NBA basketball.

███ Dragic moved to Houston, Battier to Memphis
PHOENIX-HOUSTON (AP)

Slovenian guard Goran Dragic has been traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for a future 1st round draft pick. The Rockets were looking for a decent point guard addition to backup Kyle Lowry after the departure of Aaron Brooks to Oklahoma City. Dragic averaged only 2.8 points per game for the Suns last season and played in the D-league several months.

The Rockets also struck a deal which landed them Demarre Carroll of the Grizzlies and a future 1st rounder. Memphis will receive Shane Battier and Ishmael Smith in the deal, which at first should have included Hasheebm Thabeet, whom the Grizzlies did not want to let go after his recent improvements, especially offensively.

███ Contenders deepen their roster
NEW YORK (AP)

The NBA announced a lot of contracts signed in the last week by several players, who will join title contending teams to deepen their rosters.

Mike Bibby negotiated a buyout with the Washington Wizards and joined the Miami Heat as a backup point guard behind resigned Mario Chalmers.

Troy Murphy wasn't resigned by the Warriors and signed a contract with the Bostons Celtics.

Rasual Butler signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bulls who were looking to get some three point shooting.

Jared Jeffries joined his former team, the New York Knicks, to play alongside All-Stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire. The Knicks also claimed Derrick Brown off waivers.

Sasha Pavlovic signed a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics, who only had one small forward in Paul Pierce on their team.

Alonzo Gee signed a multi-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

Corey Brewer, who was waived by the New York Knicks earliers this week, signed a 3-year contract worth approximately 8M $ with the Dallas Mavericks.

Larry Hughes got signed for 1 year by the Denver Nuggets.

DeAndre Jordan got a 1-year contract from the Portland Trailblazers who were looking for a solid backup for Greg Oden.

███ Several new coaches in the league
NEW YORK (AP)

The NBA likes to welcome several new coaches to the league after a spectacular coaching rotation during offseason.

Tyrone Corbin is the new coach of the Utah Jazz after Jerry Sloan decided to retire this year.

The Rockets also had to find a new coach when Rick Adelman said he wanted to end his coaching tenure with the team and did not resign a contract. The Rockets formed a new coaching duo with Don Nelson and Paul Westphal stepping up as new coaches for Houston.

George Karl of the Nuggets also made a cut this season as he was still struggling with health problems after dealing with cancer the season before. The Nuggets front office decided to sign Alex English, a former Nuggets player and assistant coach for the team from the Mile High City.

John Kuester got fired by Joe Dumars after the season and will be replaced by former Magic Coach and Pistons assistant coach Brian Hill.

The Raptors' GM Liam Washburn did not resign Jay Triano to a new contract but instead named PJ Carlesimo his new head coach.

███ Charlotte goes old school, back to old jerseys
CHARLOTTE (AP)

The Charlotte Bobcats will go back to their old jersey they wore in the franchise's first season, front office executive Michael Jordan mentioned recently.

The team wants to start new and thus the Cats will wear their former orange jerseys on the road and a white jersey at home.

"The pinstripes weren't really popular at all", Jordan added after mentioning his decision.

The Bobcats traded away their biggest contract and are looking to start from scratch in the 2011 campaign.

Last offseason update, next up - Preseason.

Luis Chase has proven to be valuable for the Sonics in his first steps in preseason

Sonics' good play not displayed in preseason numbers
Sonicsfan88 for Sonics.com
Posted on October 26th 2011

Hi, Sonics fans. The NBA is back, this time with the preseason games. Our Sonics had seven games in preseason. This is the first preseason in the NBA where the quarter length has been reduced to 6 minutes in order to reduce injuries. We played the Thunder, Rockets and Cavs twice this year, and has one game against the Suns.

Playing the deepened Thunder

Preseason started pretty difficult for our squad, as we met the Thunder in the first game, a Conference Semi Finalist that added a couple of decent players to their roster in Aaron Brooks and Thad Young and that looked pretty sharp from the very first moment.

OKC outscored the Sonics 17-8 in the third quarter to rally to a 53-40 win @Seattle. Tyreke Evans only shot 3-10 from the field and rookie Luis Chase only hit three of his eight attempts.

Demarcus Cousins looked pretty good out there scoring 8 points, but the Thunder's Kevin Durant, 2nd in the MVP race last year, scored 16 points and Jeff Green and James Harden added 10 apiece.

Back-to-back vs the Rockets

The day later, we got our first win of the preseason against the Houston Rockets. Omri Casspi showed his improved play by scoring 13 points and Luis Chase had 12 points and 6 assists to give us a 54-44 win @Houston.

The Rockets relied pretty much on their post presence in resigned Yao, who scored 14 points, 10 in the first quarter, and Luis Scola, who added 9 points.

Just two days later both teams met again @Austin, TX, where the Rockets were able to take revenge and beat the Sonics 54-59.

But for Sonics fans, the loss wasn't that bad, because it also showed some glimpse of hope: Luis Chase. The Indiana State alumni scored 21 points and had 7 assists in 19 minutes of gameplay, to carry the team on his shoulders. He also had to, because Tyreke Evans left the game early in the 1st quarter with an ankle sprain.

The match also showed the Sonics' problems. The frontcourt is pretty small and Yao and Scola combined for 17 boards and 25 points.

Getting beaten by Cleveland twice, game-winner vs Phoenix

For those who said that the signing of Vince Carter was only a marketing move by the Cavs, Sonics fans have to definitely disagree.

Carter had 10 points and 4 assists in the first game vs Seattle @Cleveland, where the Cavs managed to beat the Sonics 46-51 despite 10 points from Demarcus Cousins and 11 from Luis Chase.

But the old man they once called "Air Canada" topped this performance in the 2nd game between both teams, when he had 29 points in 22 minutes and hit the game-winner in overtime to give his Cavs a 63-62 road win. Baron Davisadded 11 points and 8 assists to top Chase's 18 points. Tyreke Evans sat out both games after rolling his ankle.

But we were also able to beat a team without Evans. The Phoenix Suns started off very well and Grant Hill scored 12 of his 21 points in the first quarter, but Seattle was able to bounce back thanks to a good effort by Dante Cunningham who had 9 points and 4 rebounds.

The Sonics led by two points with 20 seconds left in the game when Steve Nash was wide open at the three point line and knocked down the shot to give the Suns a 53-54 lead.

The Sonics inbounded the ball to Demarcus Cousins who tried to back down Robin Lopez. Cousins, who only had taken one shot before nearly lost the ball and somehow kicked it out to Delonte West.

The 6-3 guard who has proven to be solid acquisition by the Sonics took the contested three and hit it with 2 seconds left on the clock - the game winner. West had a team-high 10 points and hit two of his three shots from downtown.

The last game of the preseason was once again vs the Thunder, who also took the 2nd game by a small margin, 55-53. Kevin Durant had 23 points and hit the game winning shot with 23 seconds left on the clock. Tyreke Evans and Luis Chase combined for 35 points and Omri Casspi added 12, but it wasn't enough.

All in all, the preseason for the Sonics ended with a 2-5 record, but almost every game was pretty close and especially rookie Luis Chase showed off his great skills here and there. He led the team with 12.5 points per game in scoring and also in assists at 3.5 per game. Demarcus Cousins had 4.5 rebounds per game and Jason Maxiell 4.3.

This Sonics squad will not play for the title out there, but let's hope our rookie and our franchise player can help us to reach the Playoffs this season.

So far, take care.

Top teams in preseason
Thunder 7-0
Bucks 6-1
Celtics 6-1

Flop teams in preseason
Mavs 2-5
76ers 2-5
Pistons 1-6

Let me introduce: Your top 10 draft picks of 2011
www.nba.com/thablog
Posted on October 25th 2011 8:50PM

We are only a few days away from the NBA's tip-off of the 2011-2012 season and the NBA will welcome many new rookies to the league, that maybe some of you did not know before. "Tha Blog" will start a photo series of all rookies drafted in the first round of the draft, starting off with the top ten picks. Photos are used from the NBA preseason.

Image
There was no doubt who'd become the number one pick of the Draft. Lance Meredith of the University of Connecticut is an All-Star in the making. He even started hitting the three point shot in preseason: 3/6 from downtown - scary!

Image
Wake Forest guard Darryl Spencer really went under the radar with Meredith being drafted first. The guy was a top notch scorer and constant triple-double threat at College. The Wizards are looking forward to the Wall-Spencer combination.

Image
This guy hit 9-10 three pointers in one match vs Vanderbilt last season. He not only has the ears of Reggie Miller, but also the stroke. Oh and he actually has something called muscles.

Image
Beno Udrih and Luther Head did not cause fear among opponents for Seattle last year. Chase's a different calibre who can set up team mates and jump out of the building

Image
Leroy Graham can be one of the best point guards in the league, but he also can be out of the league in two years. The UCLA alumni showed steady improvement, but lacks consistency.

Image
Many saw Arthur as a 2nd round draft pick, but the Raptors took him at six. A risky move, but this guy just looks too much like AI to pass on him.

Image
Melvin "Big Bark" Barker combines ferocious athleticism and power with a soft touch inside. The Bobcats look thin at the SF-spot, "Big Bark's" big chance.

Image
The Grizzlies let go of Zach Randolph and instead drafted the ex-Wildcat Jeremy Curtis. Curtis' speed is far away from a wildcat, but I wouldn't want to be hit by his paw. Be aware of the poster!

Image
How much defense can the former Hoya bring to the Cavs? I mean, Carter and Davis doesn't look like heavy D in Ohio. Woods got hops, and maybe a starting positon at the three, oh and look at his number.

Image
The "Crocodile Hunter" (a mixture of his name and his College team Florida Gators), has Jamal Crawford and Anthony Morrow in front of him. A pity, because it's fun to see him hunting. A deadly scorer, but for his team also a deadly defender (not positive at all).

buzzy, Badger, actually they look pretty different considering that the create-a-player mode doesn't allow to really change the look of a player. They could look way more similar than they do.

Houndy, thank you

Grandmama Johnson, thanks, I only played those games for 1-2 minutes to get a pic. So it took about half an hour.

Melo and Amar'e will score, but Billups and Meredith will be just as important for the Knicks' title hopes

Empire State Of Mind - Atlantic Division Preview
By Carl Column, NBA.com
Posted on October 25th 5:36PM

Just a few days ahead of the NBA season, let's have a breakdown of each division to deliver you the information you need to have when NBA action starts and you'll sit next to your mates watching the first matches of the season.

It's always difficult to project the run of a NBA season, so if you feel like I got wrong here and there, just post messages and replies and tell me your own opinion. Today we will start with the "refreshed" Atlantic Division, which has it all, an oldschool team (Celtics), a young&gun contending team (Knicks), a completely fresh looking team (Nets), a high-potential team (Sixers) and a cellar dweller (Raptors).

Image
(Last year: 52-30, 1st Atlantic, 2nd East)

• Players lost: D. West, M. Daniels, J. Hayes, V. Wafer, L. Harangody, S. Erden, C. Smith

• Players added: S. Pavlovic, T. Murphy, G. Kelly*, T. Phillips*

• Projected Rotation:

C J. O'Neal - S. O'Neal
PF K. Garnett - G. Davis - T. Murphy
SF P. Pierce - S. Pavlovic
SG R. Allen - G. Kelly* - T. Phillips*
PG R. Rondo - N. Robinson - A. Bradley

• Outlook:

The Bostons Celtics are looking to make another trip to the Finals, maybe the last one with their core of the old men as the contracts of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal will expire after the season. Boston gave up on a few players, but none of them was really important during last year's regular season. Delonte West, who packed his bags and went to Seattle, was pretty solid in the Cs' Playoff run though. Jarvis Hayes decided to play in Europe for Olympiakos. Troy Murphy is maybe the best acquisition for the Cs this year. The power forward averaged 9.1 points and 6.7 rebounds with the Nets last season.
The team will once again rely on Paul Pierce on offense (21.7 ppg last season) and Kevin Garnett on defense. Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen complete one of the still best four-players-combination in the league. The bench is solid, Nate Robinson scored 11.7 points per game last season and has proven to be a decent sixth man.

Image
(Last year: 31-51, 4th Atlantic, 12th East)

• Players lost: W. Chandler, R. Felton, D. Gallinari, T. Mozgov, A. Randolph, A. Rautins, S. Williams

• Players added: C. Anthony, C. Billups, D. Brown, J. Jeffries, R. Balkman, L. Meredith*, B. Rollins*

• Projected Rotation:

C L. Meredith* - Ben Rollins* - E. Curry
PF A. Stoudemire - R. Turiaf - J. Jeffries
SF C. Anthony - D. Brown - R. Balkman
SG L. Fields - R. Mason - B. Walker
PG C. Billups - T. Douglas

• Outlook:

What an offseason for New York. The Knicks not only landed three All-Star type of players - two via trade and one via draft - they also did a pretty good job of deepening their bench with a mixture of talent, athleticism and hard-working guys. A lot has been written about Lance Meredith and although it may still be unclear which numbers he can produce on the court, it is obvious that he is the salt & pepper of the Knicks' hopes for a championship banner. The 6-11 center changes the whole defense with his pure presence in the zone and can score in so many different ways, be it the open shot (even from three point range as he has proven in preseason), a post up play or an face-up isolation situation. The good thing about the Knicks? You can say the exactly same thing about Carmelo Anthony, who is also a deadly scorer (26.5 ppg last season) and Amar'e Stoudemire who averaged 22.5 points last year.
Oh, and don't forget about floor-general Chauncey Billups. The 34-year old veteran also scored over 20 points per game in 2011 (20.6), but may see his numbers dropping from last year.
Donnie Walsh should already win the executive of the year award for bringing together these four guys, but he had more to offer.
The Knicks bench looks very promising, but let's start with the 5th member of the starting five. Landry Fields is the perfect role player and can guard two-guards and forwards as well.
Toney Douglas will learn from Billups and already scored 10.1 points per game last season. Ronny Turiaf, Jared Jeffries and Renaldo Balkman do the dirty work, Kelenna Azubuike is a solid shooter with hops. This team will not only make some noise, I'd even put it over the Cs if it wasn't for Boston's ability to play the best defense in the league. Watch out for the city that never sleeps.

Image
(Last year: 37-45, 3rd Atlantic, 10th East)

• Players lost: D. Harris, T. Williams, D. Favors, T. Murphy, J. Smith, Q. Ross, K. Humphries, S. Graham, B. Uzoh

• Players added: D. Williams, J. Crawford, C. Landry, A. Miller, J. Hunter*, J. Sampson*

• Projected Rotation:

C B. Lopez - J. Petro
PF C. Landry - J. Sampson*
SF T. Outlaw - D. James
SG J. Crawford - A. Morrow - J. Hunter*
PG D- Williams - Andre Miller - J. Farmar

• Outlook:

Everything new in New Jersey. The Nets felt like they were going nowhere with their very talented but not really successful mixture last season. Mikhail Prokhorov decided to "attack now" and thus the Nets added a couple of decent players, with one carrying the load on his shoulders - Deron Williams. Williams is coming off a season where injury limited him to 60 games and he only averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 assists per game, but he is still the better point guard than Devin Harris, no doubt. After issues with Jerry Sloan and with the Jazz not making the Playoffs, it was the chance for the Nets to snatch "D-Will". A healthy Williams alone almost guarantees a Playoff-spot, but the Nets also decided to spend a lot of money on players who won't make the All-Star game, but rather have a solid impact as role players.
Carl Landry, Jamal Crawford and Andre Miller are good acquisitions, but have already reached the peak of their potential. Combined with Travis Outlaw and Brook Lopez, the Nets really have no weakness on their roster, but what's their strenght? Crawford scored 15.5 points per game last season, Landry had 12.8 and 7.4 rebounds and Andre Miller 16.4 points and 6.8 assists per game. None of them will produce those numbers in their new role, but none of them will have to work as hard for their shots as they had to last year on their former teams - thanks to Deron Williams. All in all, this team is solid and will surely make the Playoffs, but their success really relies on the 6-3 guard out of Illinois, Deron Williams. He alone will determine how good a team stacked with role-players can make it in the Playoffs. And what happens when he becomes a free agent?

• Outlook:

In the city of brotherly love, the offseason really felt like the 76ers are a big, lovely family. The Sixers' front office decided to stay put, let the team grow and improve from the inside - not a bad plan.
The Sixers only have two players over thirty years old, and only four over 25 years. There was no need for change after a surprising Playoff berth last season which ended after six games against the Eastern Conference Champion from Beantown. The only big move Philly made this offseason was resigning center Spencer Hawes for 27M $ and 3 years, a move criticized by many experts. 9M $ for an average C is pretty much, but just like everyone else on the young roster, Hawes will still improve.
Another player the Sixers are looking to have an impact this season is Jrue Holidy. After only playing 12.8 minutes per game last season, Coach Doug Collins has decided to promote Holiday to his starter on the guard position with Lou Williams (14.5 points per game last season) giving fire power off the bench. Oh and don't forget about the current (Co-)Rookie Of The Year Evan Turner, who will play a bigger role on offense, especially with the departure of Thaddeus Young to OKC.
Summarized, the Sixers have a team that will improve and grow and there was no need to make bigger moves. Sometimes staying put is the best possibility.

A classic case of saving money for 2012 are the Toronto Raptors. The team gave away everybody who was too expensive and whose contract ran out and only added a bit of talent in Chicago's James Johnson. You may already have read about the bad draft for the Raptors (unless Eric Arthur turns into the rebirth of Allen Iverson) and there is really no reason for Raptors fans to be positiv about the upcoming season. They have a soft wannabe-Dirk, lots of raw talent, and some veteran internationals who are rather role-players than leaders. The worst of all: Their planned franchise player Demar DeRozan does not seem to turn into a star soon and has even fallen to third in the shooting guard depth charts (7.2 points per game last season).
The Raptors will hope to find any reasons (are there any?) to get a decent FA to Toronto next season and will hope to experience a better draft than this summer.

*= Rookies; fat=added this season; took the images of Agent420's association list, props to him!
