Postby Lamrock on Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:10 pm

Game: NBA 2K9 (Xbox 360)
Rosters: Updated as of November 22, 2008
Sim/Played Quarter Length: 12/6 (Will likely change soon)
Difficulty: Pro (Still adjusting to 2K9)
Season Length: 82 Games
Playoff Length: 7-7-7-7
Team: Minnesota Timberwolves

I return for 2K9! Updates will be spontaneous at first. Hope you follow. With this looking to be the best dynasty year since 2005, I know I won't be cracking the top 3 again, but I hope to make this one better than my Hawks.

PROLOGUE
June 24, 2008 - At Liam Washburn's Seattle Apartment

Liam Washburn was spinning in his computer chair, aimlessly surfing the internet when he received a phone call.

"Hello. Liam Washburn speaking."

"Hey, Liam. Its Larry. Billy has uh... resigned, and I was wondering if you were interested at all in being promoted to his position."

-INTERACTIVE: Pick Liam's response!-

A) "Are you serious? I'm not being served? Yeah! Of course!" (Click)
B) Wow. I am stunned. This is a huge shock. May I have a couple days to consider my options before I sign the contract?" (Read on)

"Yes, of course. Don't dilly-dally though," replied Johnston

"Don't worry, I won't. I'll get back to you later this week."

"Very good. I hope that you choose to accept my offer Mr. Washburn. You won't regret it," said the Hawks owner, hanging up.

"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!," Liam exclaimed, much at the dismay at his neighbors.

But before he could fully celebrate, he received another call. "Hello, Liam Washburn speaking."

"Oh good. This is Kevin Pritchard, general manager of the Blazers. Tom Penn, our Assistant GM, has suffered a heart attack and is now in critical condition. After hearing about you being the spearhead of the Horford drafting and generally holding a Dick Cheney-type role in the Hawks little playoff run, I thought you would be a perfect replacement. What do you say?"

"Wow. Uh, well, I have received other offers as well, so I would like to weigh all of my options," replied Washburn, trying not to show too much joy.

"Of course. Perhaps you could fly down here for a tour and interview, so you can get an idea of what the Trailblazers organization is about."

"That sounds great."

"Excellent. We will set up a flight for Monday. See you then."

"Uh, yeah. Of course. Thank you Mr. Pritchard!"

"Don't mention it," replied the Blazer GM, hanging up.

'Damn. GM of the Hawks or Assistant GM or my favorite team. Decisions decisions,' Washburn thought, before deciding to make the final update of his Live dynasty.

--------------------

Washburn woke up to a half-complete NBA Finals recap, a sore neck and his roommate Silas standing behind him, clad in a KKK robe.

"You still go on the NLSC?"

"Fuck you, man. Hey... WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WEARING?"

"Huh? I just got this from the Kyle Korver Klan. They understand his supremacy."

"..."

"Hey, so did you get any offers?," Silas asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, two. One of them is a promotion to the GM position with the Hawks. The other assistant GM of the Blazers.

"You are taking the promotion right?"

"I dunno. Actually I'm leaning more towards Portland to be honest. Atlanta is a shithole, the Hawks are shit and Portland is my favorite team."

"Whatever. I think it would be a terrible move. I don't see KP leaving any time soon, but its your future... Anyways, I better get going. I have a Klan meeting in 15 minutes. Say hi to Donatello for me."

"I will. Uh... it might not be the best idea to wear that robe in public. It could uh... get dirty."

"No time. I'll be careful. Later Lamrock", Silas shouted as he departed the apartment.

But before he could worry about the fate of his room mate, he received a third phone call.

"Hello? Is this Liam Washburn? I am Glen Taylor, GM of the Timberwolves on behalf of Jim Stack's replacement."

Whoa, 3 teams wanting you as their GM. It will be interesting to see who you pick.
If you want a playoff ready team, go the Hawks. If you want a dominant big man, go the Wolves. If you want a deep team, who will be elite in a few seasons, go the Blazers.
I'm leaning towards the Blazers. I want to see how you do in the West, and of course, see how Oden goes.
I'll be following this (Y)

Who will it be, I'm guessing either T-wolves or Blazers, but you'll go with the latter....the team is calling you out....I'm half tempted to go them myself, shame they got Greg Oden though, he scares me off them, makes them too good....

will be checking in either way (Y)

Thanks all for checking in. Portland seems to be the favorite among NLSC'ers, but we'll see what happens.

The X, Don't worry about Oden. He is the new Sam Bowie.

Nice writing. Well Ima go with the Hawks. Would be nice to see how you handle their weak bench and what you can achieve.

I'm guessing you'll go with the blazers, but i would love to see a timberwolves one, simply cause you already had done a blazers association :)

Im going with the Hawks but if you start the season without Greg Oden's abscence like he did this season, then I think you should pick the Blazers.

CHAPTER 1: Decisions, Decisions...

Liam had just gotten off the phone with Timberwolves majority owner Glen Taylor, who was offering a general manager position. He was scheduled to go to Minneapolis on Thursday to meet them.

However, the first order of business for the wonder kind was to pack for his upcoming Portland trip. 'Hipster glasses, check. Zune, check. Brandon Roy jersey, check. All set.'

Just as Liam was leaving his apartment, he heard whimpering from a nearby garbage can. He looked in it.

"Silas?"

"Liam! Thank Kyle your here! They attacked me. They fucking attacked me! I was just walking down the street, then these guys, like a dozen of them - they must have been Kapono fans - just MUGGED ME! Shit... hey, where you off to?", asked a distressed Silas

"Portland, remember?", Liam replied.

"Oh yeah. Hey, can you give me a ride to the hospital?"

"Shit. I'm on a tight schedule."

"Come on, please?!", pleaded Silas.

"Fine. Hurry, get in," Liam said helping him out of the dumpster.

--------------------

"Hey, thanks for the ride. Your not coming in?" Liam kicked Silas out of the car and sped off.

Liam raced towards the airport. 'I'm going to make it!', he thought glancing at the clock.

"SIR, PLEASE PULL OVER" he suddenly heard.

"Fucking shitty shit fuck!," shouted Liam, as he pulled the car over.

"Mm hmm. You are aware that you were going 80 in a 55 zone?" an obese mustachioed male cop spat.

"Yes. And I have learned my lesson. Please give me my ticket please," Liam snapped.

"EXCUSE ME?! I think we might need to take you in."

"No, please. I'm a member of the Trail Blazers organization. Its very important."

"I don't give a fuck what your a member of. Your coming with me."

"Please... I'll do anything. I'll uh, sock Clay Bennett if I see him. Just please let me go", Liam pleaded.

"Alright, I'll take your word for it. Next time though...," the cop threatened cracking his knuckles and handing out the hefty $220 ticket.

--------------------

"Please... you gotta let me on," Liam begged the flight attendant.

"I'm sorry sir, but its too late. You'll need to schedule a later flight."

"Please... I'll punch Clay Bennett," Liam offered hopefully, but to no avail.

"Fuck," he said, as he got on I-5 to get to Portland the hard way.

--------------------

Liam was amazed when he got to Portland. Everything was so orderly. He felt out of place with his jeans and Smiths T-Shirt. Unlike Atlanta, where everyday was casual dress, everyone was dressed for success. There was no litter on the ground, and he was pleased when Kevin Pritchard wasn't in his boxers when he met him. (unlike his first meeting with Billy Knight)

"So, Mr. Washburn. Your resume is very impressive. I didn't know you were a player at UW! However, your 4 days early for casual Friday", Pritchard joked. "But in all seriousness, how are you finding the facilities?," Pritchard asked.

"Very impressive. And absolutely nothing like Atlanta. But I think I would be able to manage."

[i]"Ha ha. Yes you will. Anyway, I'm going to let Jing here give you a tour"
, he said referring to the young Asian man next to him. "Give us a call in a few days, will you?"

"Thank you, sir. I will, Liam nodded as he left the room with Jing.

Liam got to meet all of the Blazers, take a few shots on the practice court and get his Brandon Roy jersey autographed. 'Yeah, this is the place for me', he thought, smiling.

--------------------

When Liam arrived in Minneapolis, it was an extremely hot Summer day. 'Oh god, this is going to suck', he thought, as he walked into the Timberwolves building.

He was greeted by Glen Taylor almost immediately.

"Liam, my boy. It is so nice to finally meet you. I'm Glen Taylor, please call me Glen. How was your flight?", the Wolves owner asked, extending his hand.

"Excellent, thanks," he said accepting the handshake.

"So, over the phone, there was something I didn't get to talk to you about."

"Oh?," asked Liam, worried.

"Yes. Randy hasn't been doing as well as we would have liked. I was wondering if you could possible perform double duty on the team."

"You think I could really replace Randy Foye? Listen, I played in college but..."

"No, no, not that", chuckled Glen. "Randy Wittman."

"Oooh. Right. I knew that," Liam said, feeling stupid. "I don't know. I would want to give him a chance before I do anything drastic."

"Of course. I am just offering, down the line, because I know that you were a player-coach type back at UW."

Two hours later...

Liam was leaving the building, certain that he would take the Portland job. He was impressed by the Wolves' offer, but wasn't too impressed by the city or the team. He walked into a local coffee shop for an extravagant iced beverage when he fell in love.

Gonna be following this association. I hope you choose Blazers. Timberwolves is also not a bad choice. Gonna be rooting whatever you choses anyway.

Hawks' Washburn to Replace Stack as Timberwolves GM

Minneapolis, MN, June 29, 2008 - "It will be great to vote in a swing state," was all Liam Washburn said when asked why he decided to accept the position of Timberwolves general manager. At the young age of just 28, Washburn becomes the youngest general manager in NBA history.

A basketball player at the University of Washington, he was expected to enter the draft as a projected second rounder following a successful sophomore. However, he opted to finish university to get his degree. In the second game of Junior season, he suffered a severe ankle injury, which would end his playing career. However, coach Lorenzo Romar opted to keep him on the team, and the young captain became a player coach, helping his team reach the Sweet 16 in back-to-back seasons. Following his graduation, he worked as an occasional sportswriter with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before accepting the assistant general manager job with the Atlanta Hawks in 2006. The rest is history.

The Timberwolves, coming off a 22-60 season without superstar Kevin Garnett had made a controversial draft-day trade, essentially dealing #3 pick OJ Mayo to the Memphis Grizzlies for Mike Miller and Kevin Love. This reportedly did not go over well n the Timberwolves organization, and GM Jim Stack is already out of a job.

At the press conference, in which Stack was not present, Washburn made grandiose promises to the crowd: a big improvement this year, and playoffs by 2010. Whether he can do it remains to be seen.

Oh, I misunderstood. :/ Well, good choice, from the beginning I thought Portland looks a little bit dull as a team. Timberwolves, at the other end, you have Big Al, etc. I'm sure you'll make some nice moves, etc. Good luck !

Aw man. I was hoping Telfair would start. I always wanted him to perform well, even if it was in a video game.
Doesnt Kevin Love start as center in real life?
