Well, its on XBOX, so i won't have any pics. Though I'll have some graphics at the Season Standings / Stats / All-Star Vote update. Anyway...
Atlanta (0-0) VS. Seattle (0-0)
After the Blockbuster trade, Sonics fans were feeling very optimistic, and since they were facing a team who went 13-69 the previous season, they expected a blowout.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
The Hawks completely dominated the first quarter. Luke Ridnour and Crhis Wilcox picked up too quick fouls, and I was forced to bring in rookie Johan Petro, and newcomer Leandro Barbosa. A quick timeout led to a 7-0 mini-run as the Sonics finished the first only down by seven, 21-14.
The Hawks had a pretty solid second quarter. Ray Allen could not find his shooting stroke, and Marion basically carried the team. Then Collison was replaced by Wilcox, and the 2-center lineup worked well. Seattle fsteps it up on defense, and managed to contain the 6'8 Joe Johnson, who was playing PG. Ray Allen finally hit a 2, which gave the Sonics their first lead of the game, 44-43. They finished the first leading 51-50.
In the third, the Sonics tried to take control, but the Hawks wouldn't have it. They brought in a real Point Guard - Tyrone Lue. We got in to the penalty fast, and they killed us from the free-throw line. At the end of three, the score was 72-66 Atlanta. A 6-0 run sparked by Shawn Marion's steals tied the game up. Childress went to the line and split a pair of free-throws. Then the lead seasawed for a while. Up one, Ridnour made a three-pointer to make the score 87-83 with 1:14 to go. The Hawks took a timeout, and Johnson hit a wuick jumper. On their next possession, the Sonics failed to score, and Johnson hit another shot to tie the game with 37 seconds to go.
Off a Barbosa assist, Allen made a dunk over Childress to give his team a two-point advantage, but again, Johnson was able to answer back and he had 34. Fifteen seconds left, Allen missed a contested mid-range jumper, and Johnson called timeout after he got the rebound. They got the ball to Johnson, who was double-teamed, so he passed it to Tyrone Lue. Bryon Russell accidentally fouled him going up to shoot with 2.2 seconds left.
This was going to cost them the game. The crowd was silent. Tyrone missed the first shot, then after the second one also clanked off the rim, and the crowd went crazy. Ridnour got the rebound, but with no timeouts left, he had to run up the court, and couldn't hit the long buzzer-beater, and at the end of regulation, the score was tied at 89.
OVERTIME
The sonics scored the first four points in OT, but the Hawks answered back with four. They traded baskets for the most part, until there was only 44 seconds remaining, the score tied at 97. Joe Johnson was fouled, and he scored he 39th, and 40th point of the night. Allen, who had 24 despite his poor shooting, responded with a dunk. Lue missed a jumpe, and Wilcox snatched the rebound. They passed the ball around, looking for an open-shot, but as the shot-clock ticked, they were forced to pass it to Collison, who made a long two, with 1.2 seconds left to win the game. The Hawks called a timeout, but Lue let his team down again, as he missed the 3-pointer to win the game. Seattle won it 101-99.
