The Fun Begins
"So now that you're here, why not just meet the crew?" Alexander asked Axel, after they had discussed their plans to bring David Stern to justice. "Um, sure," Axel replied.
It was Saturday, November 27, the day after the Rockets lost to the Charlotte Bobcats.
Axel followed Leslie Alexander out of his office, and went down the hallway. They went into the main office of the second floor, "This is our secretary of the headquarters, Adriana Garcia. Adriana, this is Axel," Alexander said. They both smiled at each other, and they both said, "Nice to meet you," and shook hands.
Axel took a second look at Adriana, and realized she was very hot. She had light brown eyes, very smooth, tan skin, and long, straight hair. She also had Nice curves and legit-sized boobs, Axel thought to himself.
"You can call me Ms. Garcia, if you'd like," she said. Axel frowned.
"What's the problem?" she asked Axel. He realized Alexander had gone away, and that this was his chance. "There is no problem, there won't be one once your name is Mrs. Gomez in the future," Axel winked at her. Adriana blushed, and looked down at a stack of papers she was organizing. "How 'bout we go out sometime this week?" Axel asked her. She nodded in agreement, still blushing and looking down at her papers.
"Axel, what the hell are you doing? Get your ass back over here! Just made me waste breath!" Alexander snapped into the office. Axel waved goodbye to Adriana and walked away.
They went into another office. It had two desks in it, and a big window to look outside. "This is where you'll be working alongside Daryl Morey," Alexander said. "He's at a meeting right now with the team doctors discussing how the team's doing in terms of health."
"So what do I do? Am I supposed to help him arrange trades, or things like that?" Axel asked. "Yes, basically there are times when he has a lot to do in a day, but he can't do it all. Sometimes, there've been others to fill in for him, but now, you will be the one to do that," Alexander answered him. "And you'll be helping him organize things like who sings the Star-Spangled Banner, halftime shows, and other things at the Toyota Center for Rockets home games."
"Am I gonna get to attend the team's practices?" Axel asked. "Yes, quite a bit actually. Since you are about the same age as the players on the team, I imagine you'll be able to associate well with them. You'll be talking to their agents, and things like that. Since you say you specialize in scouting college prospects, you'll be able to help our scouts evaluate talent from the upcoming draft," Alexander explained.
"Sounds good, looking forward to the next few days then," Axel said, eager to start work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Axel joined joined the Rockets players at shootaround, got to know most of them, shot threes and free throws with them, and even got autographs from Kevin Martin, Yao Ming, Luis Scola, and others. He attended meetings with Daryl Morey as well, and was dismissed from work in time to watch the Rockets play against the Oklahoma City Thunder that night.
"Hope everyone is doing well and had an excellent Thanksgiving holiday. I'm Bill Worrell joined by Basketball Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler and you're watching Rockets basketball here on Fox Sports Houston," Axel turned on his TV to watch the Rockets game at home.
"And now your starting lineups brought to you by Toyota. For the Thunder, the youngster Serge Ibaka is out there at the five, and there's reigning scoring champion Kevin Durant and Jeff Green at the three and the four, and then there's James Harden and Russell Westbrook in the backcourt."
"And for the Rockets, at center there's big Yao Ming, then the two forwards, argentinian Luis Scola and the defensive stopper Shane Battier, and the guards, Aaron Brooks and leading scorer, Kevin Martin," the starting lineups were announced by Bill Worrell. "And so the Thunder win the tip, and the fun begins..."
