 Astute observation indeed. It was simply that I was in the middle (not litterally) of a post and was unsure whether it was you or him who's location was Australia, but as it turns out you're a Queenslander - not into football (AFL). The state of the non-followers. Fun fact - QLD are the only state not adopting a national reform on education, but geez I love the whether up there!

T. Tirieux | Chapter 1.1: “My journey to the NBA”

Postby kibaxx7 on Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:06 am

Thierry's Blog: My journey to the NBA
    SanAntonioSpurs.com | September 30th, 2009

Welcome Spurs fans, my name is Thierry Tirieux and manager R.C. Buford watched me play in Europe and sent me an invitation to the Spurs training camp. So this very first all-by-myself post will just help you better get to know who the heck I am. I have lived in beautiful France all my life. I'm 19 years old, I love food (obviously), traveling, reading, being with my friends, and of course, basketball. I also have an unhealthy obsession with Hot Wheels cars, but don't tell anybody. I still go to Paris a couple of times a year to visit my friends who still live there. When I’m not traveling for work and am home in France, I really just spend most of the time with my family. Maybe this is information best kept to myself but the truth is, I am my best, my very happiest, when I’m with my family. And when I’m not with them I’d rather stay home and read a book. To be completely honest, I need to work on being a little better at socializing.

I've been in San Antonio, playing basketball. I also played some basketball, and oh, a little basketball. Ten straight days of basketball to be exact. It's close to 110 degrees right now. I will say, however, it wasn't that bad. There was a little breeze, you cool off between some practices, and you always have ice and water in the bench, and you make it through. All for the love of the game, right? For the first time in a long time I was away from home without my iPod, which was by design. I did however take a cell phone and my laptop, I just can't forget them, they are part of my life now. That means I was able to keep up on everything. I did talk to coach Popovich yesterday, who was in the middle of watching games in the Summer League. The coach and assistant Mike Budenholzer are taking it all in, watching everyone and talking to everyone here. They obviously view this period as very important. I also talked to Manu Ginobili. Manu's been lifting, running, boxing, doing yoga, and pilates. He's my only friend in the team right now, both knowing Europe like the palm of our hands.

Last Thursday was the biggest day yet. There were Spurs executives at the camp. The team hosted me, Malik Hairston, Ian Mahinmi and 2009 draft picks DeJuan Blair, Jack McClinton and Nando de Colo in a spirited workout run by head coach Popovich. He told us these workouts can be “make or break” moments for the squad. We won't know for a couple of days which players have done the best job of proving themselves in their individual workouts. The press was allowed in to watch approximately the last 20 or 30 minutes of the workout and I hope they took some pictures. :) How important was this particular workout session? Spurs legend Tim Duncan was courtside, and wanted to see this one for himself. He has attended many of these workouts in the past. I remember, I saw in the news, in 2001; Tony Parker put on a superb shooting display and Tim's watching him, that no doubt had a lot to do with why the Spurs ended up selecting him. Again, time will tell if Thursday's workout will be put in that category for me or one of the others.

Well, I hope you liked my first installment of my blog. Leave any comments. See you next time!
