Thunder hold off Mavericks 121-117

Image

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant slid into his seat on their bench and slipped on his warmups, content to watch his teammates finish off the Mavericks.

    They couldn't without him.

Up by 22 points in the fourth quarter, the Thunder blew most of their big lead against Dallas' reserves and Durant had to go back in and restore order as Oklahoma held on for a 121-117 win to take a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.

For three quarters, the Thunder were at their basketball best. The fourth wasn't so pleasing, but Durant isn't going to complain.

Durant, showing no regard for a defensive plan Dallas scored 30 points while Russell Westbrook added 20 points as the Thunder withstood a stirring comeback by the Mavericks, who used a 19-4 run to close within three on Jason Kidd's jumper with 1:53 left.

Westbrook also dished 11 assists, while rookie Cole Aldrich had the best game of his season, by scoring a career-high 16 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting in just 12 minutes of playing time for the top-seeded Thunder, who led 96-74 in the first minute of the fourth and were embarrassing the Mavericks. But Dallas dug down and gave Oklahoma and its raucous crowd a scare the Thunder may never forget.

Serge Ibaka again gave Dirk Nowitzki a hard time by defending him. Ibaka scored 12 points, blocked four shots, made three steals and unforgettable, poster dunk for Nowitzki and other Mavs, in the third quarter, Ibaka once again decided to make another poster this time to Richard Hamilton. (check the video below) Jeff Green nearly got a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Kidd was the high man for the Mavericks, he had a vintage 30 point performance including 12 assists. He shot a disappointing 11-of-26 though to get to that mark. Kidd led the Mavs to spark the run who almost beat the Thunder, but he's the only the one who was determined. Caron Butler had 23 points, Rodrigue Beaubois scored 15 off the bench in nine minutes, while Dirk Nowitzki remained to be a non-factor for his slumping team, scoring only 12 points in an woeful 5-of-15 shooting night.

After Kidd's 17-foot jumper to made the score 115-112, Durant and Westbrook each made two free throws apiece to put Thunder ahead 119-112. In the next possession, Nowitzki received the inbound pass from Butler and without hesitance, he passed the ball to a open Kidd, he then drove to the lane and finished a open lay-up. Thunder panicked and committed a turnover, Kidd was fouled from the three, and made all of them. But the Mavs are fully exhausted that time as they let Durant ran from the both sides of the court and rocked it through the rim to put the nail on the coffin.

Mavericks somehow won the rebounding battle, 50-37. The series now will shift to Dallas next two games and Mavericks will try to even the series against the fierce Thunder.

DALLAS -- Despite the series shifting to Dallas, still, Dirk Nowitzki can't play like he is playing in the regular season, but somehow he carried the Mavericks to the playoff win they had to have.

Fighting through some wild occurrences in the final minute, the Mavericks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 92-91 to take Game 3 in the first-round playoff series and get back into the competition. The Thunder take a 2-1 lead in the series into Friday's Game Four at the American Airlines Center.

The game ended with a little commotion, Kevin Durant who had a chance to tie the game and put the game into overtime, with 1.1 seconds remaining, he drained a long fade-away jumper and somehow it went in. Re: (2-1) Thunder Up! - Mavericks not giving up

Postby Justine. on Sun Apr 10, 2011 9:19 pm

George7, J.R. Smith is really something from them, he's the leading scorer for the Bulls in the Playoffs, guess he's not really a team wrecker

Thierry •, Yeah he did, didn't know Haywood is out with an injury, Murphy can't defend at all.

qfrmcpt310, Wow, thanks for the nice words, but there are still others that is way better than this, as for the cf, I didn't remember at all, I download random cfs, sorry.

Durant's last second jumper lift Thunder over the Mavericks

Image

DALLAS -- With just 4.9 seconds remaining, everyone is standing and everyone is expecting who will take the last shot for the Thunder, of course it's Kevin Durant the youngest scoring champion for two consecutive years, and this time he didn't disappoint and gave a stunning finish to the people in Dallas.

Durant escaped two defenders and simply took the shot, as before the shot goes down, Durant turned back and smiled, the buzzer sounded and the game is over. Durant's buzzer beater help the Thunder to outlast the Mavericks 95-94 and take a 3-1 lead to put the Mavericks' playoff dreams in jeopardy.

The Thunder star had 30 points overall and five rebounds. The half of these points is the most exciting part of his performance, where he connected all 15 points in the final five minutes of the game.

In fact Mavericks controlled the whole game and never let the Thunder grabbed the lead, but they failed to hold the most important shot of the game, Durant's last shot. With just five minutes remaining in the fourth, they lead the game by 10. But suddenly, after Scott Brooks timeout, Durant looking very determined stopped the fighting Mavericks. Just before the game winning shot, Thabo Sefolosha converted a three pointer, his only points but the most important in the night to cut the Mavericks lead to just one point. Dirk Nowitzki by then put up a desperate three but missed it. In the next possesion, Durant showed Nowitzki how to finish a close game.

Nowitzki scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, Caron Butler led the Mavericks by his 26 points, Jason Kidd added 21 points and also dished eight assists. Now Mavericks will now try to win a improbable game with the series shifting back again to Oklahoma City.

For the Thunder, Jeff Green came up big and scored 21 points and also had 10 rebounds, Russell Westbrook finished also with a double-double, 18 points and 12 assists, while Serge Ibaka who's playing now a important vital role for the Thunder, finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks.

Both teams struggled to find shot in the three point kingdom, Mavericks only hit 9-of-20 while Thunder converted only 3-of-10. Mavericks' bench mob performed well than the Thunder', they outscored them 27-10.

Thunder advance to second round as they crush Mavericks

Image

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder are more talented, younger, deeper and they showed this qualities of their team as they humiliate the Dallas Mavericks to eliminate them from Playoffs, they blowout them 82-63.

Kevin Durant led the way by 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Russell Westbrook chipped in 19 points and also dished six assists and made four steals while Jeff Green added 13 of his own.

It was a very ugly game for the Mavericks indeed as the series returned to the Oklahoma City. Where the Thunder showed their hometown fans they can compete in a high level. The Mavericks only scored nine points in the third quarter while Thunder 22. Almost all of the players in a blue uniform struggled in the game, only Dirk Nowitzki hit double figures, scoring 19 points on a 9-of-16 shooting, Caron Butler only had seven points.

The Mavericks somehow tried to run down the Thunder, but they are just way better. All in all, they attempted 59 shots but only made 22 of them. They had a very bad 19 turnovers. The Thunder will now advance to the second round first time in their franchise history since they moved in to the Oklahoma City. They will face either the Spurs or the Nuggets.
