NEW GM KIDJUSTIN MAKES HIS MARK IN RECORD TYING 5-TEAM TRADE
The league has just approved a 13-player, 5-team trade today. This trade finally puts an end to the Carmelo Anthony drama and lands him with his desired destination, the New York KnicksThe Denever Nuggets acquire Tayshaun Prince, Jason Maxiell, and a 2011 2nd round draft pick from the Detroit Pistons, Ronny Turiaf and a 2011 1st round draft pick from the New York Knicks, a 2011 2nd round draft pick from the Los Angeles Clippers, and a 2011 1st round draft pick from the Chicago Bulls, in a five-team trade that sends Carmelo Anothony to New York Knicks and Al Harrington and their 2012 2nd round draft pick to the Detroit Pistons; the New York Knicks also acquired Ryan Gomes from the Los Angeles Clippers; the Detroit Pistons acquired Chris Kaman from the Los Angeles Clippers, and Luol Deng from the Chicago Bulls; the Chicago Bulls acquired Ben Gordon from the Detroit Pistons and a 2012 2nd round draft pick from the Los Angeles Clippers; and the Los Angeles Clippers acquired Wilson Chandler and Eddy Curry from the New York Knicks and Ben Wallace and a 2012 1st round draft pick from the Detroit Pistons.
Clippers new GM KidJustin, who is said to be the main source of this trade, has really pulled out all the stops in this one, helping create a trade that ties the league's record for the largest trade in NBA history.
There has been no quesiton as to Melo wanting out of Denver. The Nuggets flirted with the idea of acquiring talents and draft picks from the New Jersey Nets. But nothing ever developed as the Nuggets insistedly tried to push the Nets to also take on the contract of F Al Harrington. Trade talks further died when the Nets Russian owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, announced that they have "pulled out of the Melo-drama." Rumors even started that Melo would not have re-signed with the Nets because his goal was set to play with Amar'e Stoudemire as a New York Knick, the only problem was that the Knicks did not have the assets that interested the Nuggets to get talks going.
Rumors have been stirring about the Chicago Bulls SF Luol Deng's available, each time denying that he is on the market. The Bulls new GM, George K, has public stated that he did have high interest in bringing back Detroit Pistons SG Ben Gordon to the Windy City. The Bulls are also contemplating acquiring an additional SF to help the scoring load left by Luol Deng, even considering acquiring former star Tracy McGrady. McGrady is still suffering an injury listed day-to-day however, and the Bulls decided not to jump the gun and passed on acquiring him. Rumors say that they are keeping a close eye on him and may look to try to make a trade later in the season. For now Kyle Korver is expected to start in Deng's place.
The Nuggets have acquired a total of 4 draft picks for this upcoming NBA draft, which will help as part of their rebuilding mode in their life after Carmelo Anthony this offseason. The big part about this trade was that the Nuggets found a willing taker for Al Harrington and his large contract. Now they hope to stay somewhat relevant with their 1-year rental at SF in Tayshaun Prince and then bring in talent through the draft and free agency since the majority of their team has expiring contracts, including Prince. Jason Maxiell looks to be a solid big for them and will most likely step in for either Kenyon Martin or Nene if either or both should leave in the offseason.
The Detroit Pistons bring in hometown native, Chris Kaman to man the middle. Rip Hamilton gets his starting job back and the issue of player roles has been restored. The addition of Loul Deng will prove to be more durable in the starting lineup this year than Tayshuan Prince, who has seemed to no longer find an interest playing in Detroit. The Pistons were reluctant to take on Al Harrington's contract, but they will soon find his scoring punch much more helpful than Charlie Villanueva. He may also be usefully spelling time for Tayshaun Prince, who has just came back from injury. Jarron Collins is another big body that they hope mix into the rotation.
The real winners of this trade appears to be Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. The Knicks who have been living in mediocrity since their glory days with Patrick Ewing, have made big strides this season. After lucking out of the LeBron sweepstakes, they were able to sign hyper-explosive big man Amar'e Stoudemire and a solid point guard in Raymond Felton. They really did not have the pieces to acquire Melo, but thanks to the assets from the other teams involved, they only gave up Ronny Turiaf, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry's expiring contact and this years 1st round draft pick and only had to take on the contract of Ryan Gomes, who was having a decent season in starting for the LA Clippers. The Knicks are now highly in talks with the top Eastern Conference teams such as the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and the Orlando Magic. Now that [b]Melo is in New York, the real question now is, will Chris Paul follow through with his toast at Melo's wedding and make his way to join him in New York as soon as his contract allows?
The Clippers made a real gamble in this trade by trading away an All-Star last year, but the new GM said via text message that he has full faith in DeAndre Jordan and feels that Big Ben Wallace will greatly impact his [Jordan's] game much like how Marcus Camby did when he was there. The gamble is what the Clippers got in return, while they do get a much needed upgrade at SF with Wilson Chandler they acquire all-bench player Eddy Curry, who was basically threw in for his large expiring contract to match up with Chris Kaman's. There is no word whether Curry will get any playing time in Los Angeles, but things look very doubtful. One has to wonder what owner Donald T. Sterling has to say about paying a guy around $11 Million this year for sitting on the bench.
The new GM's & have quickly become fast friends since KidJustin's first game with the Clippers when they faced off against George K's Bulls in Chicago.
KidJustin on the logistics of the trade:KidJustin wrote:I knew who I wanted and I knew what other people wanted; it took time, but I was able to piece together the puzzle. These guys should pay me, I basically did all the GM work for them.
George K on the trade:George Koukoulis wrote:Well, our team is going to get benefited from that move.We believe, that with this trade, we're going to fix mistakes of the past, but also strengthen our squad and make a solid team. Ben is going to give D-Rose the help he needs on the SG spot. He's going to get free looks, but also give space to Rose to play his game.On the other side, we're thanking Luol for his services all those years, and his devotion to the team.

KidJustin wrote:I knew who I wanted and I knew what other people wanted; it took time, but I was able to piece together the puzzle. These guys should pay me, I basically did all the GM work for them.
My main target starting out really was Wilson [Chandler]. I thought he would be a great fit for our team.I wanted to stay young but keep my options open at the SF; I really want to see what Al-Farouq [Aminu] can bring to the table once he matures. Still I hope we can persuade Wilson to resign with us this offseason, he will be a great addition either as a starter of a 6th man.
I was already talking to Donnie [Walsh] and Joe [Dumars] on a separate deal. Detroit was the only place I would realistically deal Chris [Kaman]. That move was out of resecpt. If I couldn't get Joe and Chris on board, this whole thing would not have worked.
From there Masai heard wind that I was talking to Donnie and wanted in on the action. Masai called me and insisted on getting involved. I knew that since his talks with the Nets fell through, he didn't have much leverage for fear that he may just straight out lose Melo in the off season. So I thought long and hard on how to make things work, plus anything to get Melo out of the Western Conference was a plus for me.
Then when I heard the Deng-Gordon rumors, I called up George and told him, you want Ben back? Help me out, I need Loul and this year's 1st rounder.
From there all the pieces had to fall. I think I must have come up with at least 8 different trade scenarios! I'm glad this one worked out...

THE FACTS: The Clippers visited the Warriors for the first game of the season where the Warriors led by Dorell Wright spoiled Blake Griffin's 40 point debut. The Warriors and Clippers entered this game tied for first place in the Pacific Division, but the Clippers walked out on top. The new look Clippers controlled the game from the very beginning to the very end. Late in the 1Q it was Baron who controlled he game to head into the 2Q with a 1 point lead and then Eric Gordon that lead the charge in the 2Q to help increase the lead before getting into foul trouble. Eric Bledsoe hit a buzzer beater 3 at the end to give the Clippers a 16 point lead at the half. The Warriors fought hard to get as close as 9 points in the 3Q, but Blake and Wilson easily kept the Clippers lead in double digits. By the 4Q, Gordon got another costly foul, but it didn't matter much anymore. VDN put in the bench for the final 3 minutes of the game, which allowed Brian Cook to make his debut where he missed his only shot.
THE STAT: The New Clippers were a major impact in thier debut game:
Wilson Chandler - 24 Points, 5 Rebounds, 2 Steals
Ben Wallace - 4 Points, 11 Rebounds, 2 Blocks
And a near triple-double by Eddy Curry - 9 Boxes of Nachos, 10 Snickers bars, 11 cups of soda
...well all but Curry
QUOTABLE: Wilson Chandler on playing in LA, "Wow! Playing in LA is great! It has the New York lifestyle, only better weather! Playing with Blake is awesome as well, I hope to help put this franchise on the map!"
HOT: Baron Davis did his damage this game with a double-double which included shooting 6-6 from the field
NOT: David Lee was struck with early foul trouble that he only played 8 minutes and went 0-1 in shooting
GOOD MOVE: Wilson Chandler's first bucket as a Clipper was a drive down the middle lane and slamming it over former Knicks teammate David Lee, Wilson got the and-1 plus an early 2nd foul on Lee
GOOD MOVE 2: Eric Gordon got a clean path to the basket and dunked it on Andris Beindris, who proceeded to fall to the floor
GOOD MOVE 3: Ben Wallace's first points as a Clipper was off a wide open slam dunk from an assist by Blake Griffin, who in a single pump fake drew 3 Warriors in the air
BAD MOVE: Eddy Curry did report to Staples Center, but entered through the visitor's enterance. He ended up using the toilet in the visitor's lockerroom before finding his way to his spot behind the Clippers bench
Warriors Bad Move: With less that 12 seconds to go in the 3Q, Keith Smart subbed in David Lee, with 4 foul, to defend. Blake Griffin got the inbound pass, turned to the middle and drew Lee's 5th foul on an and-1 play.
Injuries: Dorell Wright was shaken up on a play getting rejected while going toward the basket, he was able to shake it off and continue the game. He is listed with back spasms, but will not miss any games

THE FACTS: The Clippers were part of the LeBron sweepstakes, the Cavaliers were the losers, but in this game both are sitting in the number 1 spot in their divisions. During the 1Q, Antwan Jamison's jump shooting seemed to by why the Cavaliers were have success after LeBron LeQuit on them. But the 2Q was a completely different story, the Cavaliers shot poorly in the quarter to make a 5 point deficit, into a 13 points deficit. The only real advantage the Cavs had going into halftime was 3PT shooting, well in the 3Q the Clippers went on to shoot 84% from the field, including 83% from 3PT. VDN put in the deep bench by the end of the 3Q while the Clippers were enjoying a 27 point lead. Not a single Clippers starter entered the game in the 4Q, but the Clippers deep bench was able to keep up the defense and win the game easily by 22 points. Randy Foye got injured late in the quarter and when Eric Bledsoe fouled out, VDN went with a lineup of virtually all forwards, Rasual Butler, Al-Farouq Aminu, Craig Smith, Brian Cook, Ben Wallace.
THE STAT: The game was over by halftime, but in the 3Q the Clippers shot 84% and scored 46 points (compared to 32). This was with Blake have only 1 FG in the 3Q (11 Points, 4 Rebounds at this point in the game).
QUOTABLE: Antwan Jamison on the beating they took in LA, "F*ck off, get that mic out of my face!"
HOT: Responding to the 6-0 run in the 2Q, the Clippers went on a 17-0 run to take a 16 point lead, the Clippers would continue their run and end up going 31-10 since trailing by 1 point. This included 14 quarter points by Wilson Chandler, who had 5 consecutive dunks during this stretch, if you count his 2 others earlier in the quarter, that's 7 in a row
NOT: The Cavaliers shot only 44% for the game, never breaking the 48% mark in any quarter
GOOD MOVE: DUNK OF THE YEAR, during the Clippers epic 2Q run, Eric Gordon rose up again the entire Cavs team and dunk on them and drew the foul on Daniel "Boobie" Gibson
BAD MOVE: At the start of the 2Q Eric Gordon makes a casual pass to Baron Davis which was intercepted and converted into an easy layup, part of the Cavaliers 6-0 run to take the lead by 1 point
Injuries: Unfortunately, mid-way in the 4Q Randy Foye collided with Daniel Gibson on a layup and painfully strained his abdomen. He is expected to be out for 2-4 weeks, Rasual Butler and maybe even Willie Warren is expected to setup in his absence.
