Thunder free up rotations by sending Mayer to Phoenix
Oklahoma City today sent second-year rookie forward Crawford Mayer to Phoenix in exchange for a future first round draft pick.
According to sources with knowledge of the deal, the Suns also received both of the Thunder's 2013 draft picks as part of the trade.
Mayer, who was selected by the Thunder with pick 60 in last season's national draft, was deemed surplus to requirements by the team.
Thunder management are believed to rate recent number 4 pick Howie Jeffries and saw this deal as a way to get him more playing time.
They'll have free agency decisions to make next season on superstars Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, along with promising rookie Rolf Young.
Mayer was also going to be a free agent and may not have been re-signed by the Thunder. He'll hope he can earn an extension with the Suns.
Jeffries, the 23 year old from Argentina, is seen as the next Al Jefferson. At 6 ft 10 and 270 lbs, he could be a dominant player in the future.Oklahoma City receive

Breaking: Wade shocks Heat with trade request
Seven time all-star Dwyane Wade wants out of Miami. That's the word coming from sources with knowledge of the situation.
It's been revealed that the veteran guard has formally asked the Heat for a trade, with his hometown of Chicago being top of his list.
He reportedly met with Miami Heat general manager Pat Riley yesterday and told him he wants to be traded to the Chicago Bulls.
Normally if a player of his calibre asked to be traded it would be a disaster for his team, but Miami also have two MVPs on their roster.
Luckily for the Heat he still has two years remaining on his current contract and will likely still get them some quality pieces back.
Wade led the Heat to the 2006 title, but four straight finals losses has apparently made him feel like he needed a change of scenery.
It may actually be beneficial for the Heat to trade Wade as it could help them sort out some of the weak spots in their roster.
Their frontcourt needs an upgrade. They don't match up well against the Nets (Howard & Nene) and Knicks (Randolph & Stoudemire).
Early reports suggest that any trade between the Bulls and Heat would probably require a third team in order to reach a deal.
The Heat (15-5) are currently sitting on top of the eastern conference, whilst the Bulls (15-7) aren't too far behind in second.
