I decided to go from reader to writer and start a Dynasty story. As far as I can tell this is the first Thunder Dynasty on here (Live 10 at least?)
I'm hoping that writing this will keep me interested in the game and resist the urge to sim half a season if I get bored :P
I spent over an hour today manually updating the default rosters, (no internet connection for my ps3), so that it would be more realistic.

Gay heads to Oklahoma City

Image

Memphis forward Rudy Gay has tonight flown to Oklahoma City to join his new team mates after a deal was struck between the Grizzlies and the Thunder.
According to a source close to the deal, the Thunder sent it's 2010 1st round draft pick to Memphis in exchange for the 2006 8th pick Gay.
Thunder coach Scott Brooks said "We are delighted to get this deal done. We believe Rudy is a good young player with a great future."
"Rudy will add another offensive threat to our line-up and take some pressure off of Kevin [Durant]."

In a seperate deal today the Thunder traded big men Etan Thomas and Nick Collison to Detroit for center Ben Wallace.
'Big Ben' has only 1 year left on his current contract and it would seem that this deal was made with one eye on the upcoming off-season.

Asked whether he expected any more deals to go through, Brooks replied "We're happy with our squad at the moment, we have some great young guys that are improving every week. We won't be looking for any more deals in the near future".

With the stellar class of upcoming free agents the Thunder are expected to stick with their current squad to preserve their healthy wage cap room in the hope of bringing in a big name next off-season.

Oklahoma City Thunder [0-0] vs Los Angeles Lakers [0-0]

Hollywood style debut for Gay in LA

Image

Rudy Gay had 19 first half points and finished with 35 during a dream debut for the Thunder against the reigning NBA Champions the LA Lakers.
In a highly entertaining season opener at Staples Center, Oklahoma City pulled off a major upset against the team that everyone is tipped to be chasing this season.
The Thunder came out strong and lead 30-24 at the first break. But the Lakers came back in the second and third to lead 80-78 at the last break.
Trailing by 2 heading into the last quarter, the Thunder produced a stunning effort to overrun the Lakers.
Kevin Durant and Rudy Gay stepped up in the last quarter at both ends of the court. James Harden hit a 3 pointer with 2:00 left in the game to seal the victory.

I love the thunder. Their core is nice and young. Gay was a nice pickup. I guess you wont need that 1st Round Pick anyway since you just beat the LAKERS!

Yeah, it's a good young group.
Funny story, I bought Live 10 after a few years of not following any basketball and chose OKC in Dynasty mode because they had the most cap room :P
But now I follow them in real life. They're on a great run at the moment and may make the play-offs if Durant keeps his run going.

Just played another game and lets just say trade for Gay was worth it. Now I've got 4 good young guys and maybe someone like Bosh will want to sign next season.

Oklahoma City Thunder [1-0] vs Sacramento Kings [0-0]

Gay old time in Sacramento for Thunder

Image

In their second road game in California in two nights, Oklahoma City have humiliated the Sacramento Kings on their own court.
The Thunder charged out of the blocks early and after one quarter they had a sizable 19 point lead.
The Kings had no answer for the Thunder's running game. And having traded Kevin Martin to Houston they lacked any real scoring threat.
Oklahoma City didn't let up all night and eventually ran out comfortable 32 point winners.
Recent recruit Rudy Gay had another amazing night for the Thunder amassing 35 points for the second game in a row.
Unfortunately for the Kings they have to do it all again in 2 days time when the sides meet again.

Oklahoma City Thunder [2-0] vs Sacramento Kings [0-1]

Durant leads Thunder to third straight win

Image

The second meeting in three days between these two teams was a lot closer than the first.
Having been outclassed by 32 points two nights earlier, the Kings came out in a determined mood and lead after one quarter.
The Thunder rallied in the second and third quarters to lead by two with one quarter to go. They maintained their lead deep into the fourth.
In the closing seconds Russell Westbrook kept his nerve to sink several free throw attempts and deny Sacramento their first victory of the season.
Rudy Gay got his second double-double of the season in another dominant display.

Oklahoma City Thunder [3-0] vs Denver Nuggets [0-1]

Despite career high from Gay, Thunder lose to Nuggets

Image

The Thunder came to Denver looking for their fourth straight win to start the season.
Things looked good after one quarter as they lead 37-24. Rudy Gay had the same amount of points as Denver at that point.
Denver rallied in the second quarter and had the lead down to 4 at the half mainly thanks to an 11-0 run to start the second quarter.
The third was tight but Denver managed to reduce the lead to 2 with a quarter to go.
They overran the Thunder in the last due mainly to the Thunder's poor shooting and some three pointers from J.R Smith.
Rudy Gay had a massive night. He scored a career high 58 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to complete his 3rd double-double in four games.

Oklahoma City Thunder [3-1] vs Portland Trail Blazers [3-2]

Thunder beat Blazers at Rose Garden

Image

After a disappointing loss last time out against Denver, Oklahoma City were looking to record a win against another Northwest Division rival in Portland.
Portland controlled the game for the first three quarters, but the Thunder slowly pegged them back and lead 63-62 with one to play.
A big defensive effort ensured they got their fourth win of the season. Kevin Durant hit a clutch three pointer in the dying minutes to consolidate the lead.
Marcus Camby reeled in an amazing 18 rebounds for the losing team. Rudy Gay continued his good form with 29 points, his fifth game in a row scoring 25+ points.

I know, but I'm not complaining :) I guess they were hoping I would have a terrible season and they'd get a top draft pick.

Plus his contract is expiring so maybe they thought I'd cheap out and not offer him a big contract and they could re-sign him. :?

I like that Ben Wallace trade clearing space for the upcoming big free agent market with all the stars, i ilke when people clear cap space to get ready for the summer, and that's what you did by getting free agent Ben Wallace, good job. By the way, are you under or over in cap space?

I think I'm under it by about $5m-$8m. Wallace is on a $15m contract so that'll free up some space. I'm planning to release Ollie and maybe Sefolosha too.
Rudy Gay is on like $3.6m, but he will probably want to double or triple that in a new contract next season.

Wallace has been playing good too. Averaging over 10 rebounds per game and the odd block :)

Rudy Gay for a first round pick is an absolute steal, congrats on getting the CPU to agree to that one. You're off to a good start too, good luck and nice work with your presentation. :)

Thanks Andrew.

I was actually going to try and get OJ Mayo or Michael Beasley for the draft pick. But I tried for Gay and they went for it :)

Oklahoma City Thunder [4-1] vs Memphis Grizzlies [3-1]

Durant and Gay put on show for home crowd

Image

Oklahoma City fans have had to wait 5 games to see their Thunder team play at home. Many would agree it was worth the wait.
The Thunder have generally been fast starters this season and this game was no different. They lead 30-23 after one quarter.
Kevin Durant and Rudy Gay were in superb form, especially from beyond the arc. They finished with 69 points between them.
OJ Mayo tried to get the Grizzlies back into the game in the last and even had his team leading by 1 at one stage.
But the Thunder were determined to give their home crowd a win and held out for a deserved 13 point win.

Oklahoma City Thunder [5-1] vs New Orleans Hornets [3-5]

Gay shines again as Thunder protect perfect home record

Image

Another home game for the Thunder. This time it was Superstar Chris Paul and his Hornets visiting the Ford Center.
A slow start for the Thunder had the Hornets leading by 13 after two quarters.
Scott Brooks no doubt had a few choice words with his players at the half time break, to which they seemingly responded to.
They managed to restrict the Hornets to only 29 points for the whole second half. While they found better percentage shots themselves.
Slowly the Hornets lead was reduced and it stood at just 3 with a quarter to play. An 11-2 start in the last helped the Thunder to control proceedings late on.
In what now seems like the deal of the season, new Thunder recruit Rudy Gay scored another 36 point game.

Oklahoma City Thunder [6-1] vs Cleveland Cavaliers [5-3]

Thunder upset Cavs at Ford Center

Image

Tonight the Ford Center hosted King James and his Cavaliers who were looking to beat the in form Thunder.
In a tight first half Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison kept the Cavaliers in front with some nice moves in the paint. Cavs lead 47-40 at half time.
Jeff Green rallied the Thunder with a couple of three pointers mid way through the third. Kevin Durant hit a three at the buzzer to give the Thunder a 74-73 lead.
In a high scoring final quarter the Thunder managed to hold on to record an upset victory over the Cavaliers.
Oklahoma City have now beaten the early season favourites from both the Eastern and Western Conferences in the Cavaliers and Lakers.

Yeah Gay has been on fire. When I signed him I wasn't planning on him being my main scorer, but he is very good at getting to the rim and making shots even when there is contact.

It's nice having 3 guys over 6 ft 8 who can get to the rim and also step outside and knock down three pointers. :)
