Tough Defense from Bobcats leds to blowout on Grizzlies

Image

Its all good for the Charlotte Bobcats as they continue their road trip in the preseason, blowing out the Memphis Grizzlies 97-74.

The Bobcats got going early, going on a 8-0 run before Rudy Gay stopped their momentum by hitting a Kobe style fade-away 17 footer, they would then go on a run that put them ahead by 2 at the end of the first quarter; the Bobcats were led in the first by Matt Carroll, who had 11 points in the first, including three 3 pointers.

The bench came on for the Bobcats in the entire 2nd quarter, and played big for the Bobcats, as they started off with Jermareo Davidson getting a huge rejection on Rudy Gay's dunk attempt, then slamming it down off a lob pass from Yuta Tabuse; they then continued their great play and, led by Jared Dudley, who was named the Bobcats' Player at the Half, grabbed a 5 point lead over the Grizzlies to end the half.

The 2nd half featured the Bobcats totally owning the Grizzlies, where they went 28-19 in the 3rd and 27-18 in the 4th.

Rudy Gay led the way with 27, and combined with OJ Mayo and Mike Conley for 68 of the Grizzlies' 74 points, but it was no where near what they needed, as the Bobcats had good productivity from every player and dominated the Grizzlies.

Raymond Felton looked to be redeeming himself, as he played selflessly, dishing out 5 assists and had 4 points, while the other backup guard Yuta Tabuse had one of the best games in his nba career, tying his personal record of 7 points, and had 5 assists and 2 rebounds to go along with that; These 2 Point Guards were led by rookie DJ Augustin, who scored 9 points and dished out 11 assists. Coach Larry Brown seemed very happy with his Point Guards' play today and was all smiles as they left the arena.

Everybody hates the preseason because it doesn't matter. Don't worry, you're doing fine. The dynasty section is just fucked right now. When XPlosive's dynasty is one of the most prominent, you know this section is in trouble.

Tabuse and Co Shows Promise in Loss to Atlanta

Image

Yuta Tabuse had set new career highs for various categories and also achieved his first nba double double on Saturday Night's loss to the Atlanta Hawks; scoring 12 points, 13 assists, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds.

Larry Brown used mostly his bench players in this game, to see how they would play against the rest of the league, and for the most part, they did not disappoint him despite losing by 14 points in the end, as they showed strong competitiveness and played solid basketball.

The Game started with the Bobcats jumping to an early lead, with the starting five playing well, but then halfway through the first quarter, as rookie DJ Augustin drove through the lane and hit the basket on a foul from Al Horford, he landed on the floor hard on his left arm, he would return to the locker room where he was treated, he would return briefly in the 3rd quarter and ended the game with 5 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, and 1 steal.

Raymond Felton played for most of the game, leading the Bobcats in minutes played, as he played both one guard and two guard, he would end the game with 12 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds.

The Hawks, who played mostly their starters for much of the ball game, took advantage in the 3rd and had a 24 point lead, before Yuta Tabuse led an attack that finally got the lead down to 11, but failed to further cut into the lead.

"He just played great today, he's got some talent, he's got some skills, i think he could develop into a very good player in just a few short years" said Larry Brown after the game.

Perhaps the starting point guard would not be Raymond Felton or DJ Augustin coming opening night.

Note: DJ Augustin has been diagnosed with a strained left arm and is listed as day to day, he would not play the final game (preseason schedule has been changed, see below) of the preseason as a precaution.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preseason Schedule Changes
As you may have noticed, this game wasnt according to the schedule, there had been some problems with the flight arrangements for several of the games, and the teams involved have agreed on a new set of games, and the Charlotte Bobcats would play their final Preseason Game against Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets, in the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center, the venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympics basketball preliminaries and finals, in Beijing China. The team would travel and stay there for a week, and play on Saturday October the 25th, 2008, for their final game of the preseason, the Bobcats would be the "away" team.
This gives the fans a chance to see another epic showdown between Shaq and Yao, and also the new showndown of Jason Richardson and Tracy McGrady, there also has already been a large amount of bookings from many japanese fans as well as the local chinese fans, due to the attraction of Charlotte's newest addition, Yuta Tabuse, the Bobcats Front Office are hoping that this continues in the regular season, as they can now aim at yet another market.

Shaq Powers the Bobcats past Yao's Rockets in Double Overtime

Image

Shaquille O'Neal from the preseason game against Yao Ming and the rockets in the Beijing Olympics Arena looked like Shaq from the good old Laker days, that is, Unstoppable. He scored a game high 43 points, alongside 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 blocks, and 1 steal on saturday night to push the Charlotte Bobcats past the Houston Rockets in a classic double overtime game.

It was a Shaq - Yao Matchup from the start, as both of them scored their team's first six points, trading buckets, but Yao was outplayed by the dominating shaquille o'neal and got into foul trouble all game, and fouled out with 2 minutes remaining in the first overtime, while shaq stayed in the game until finally fouling out with 7.3 seconds in the second overtime.

Tracy McGrady was the man for the Rockets, as he hit jumper after jumper and ended the game with 35 points, which included a game tying shot to get the game into double overtime, along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists, as he took advantage at the match up against Matt Carroll, who struggled against McGrady, and did basically nothing for 22 minutes.

Besides Yao and Shaq fouling out, Bobcats guard Raymond Felton, who started in place of the injured DJ Augustin, also was in foul trouble all game and was fouled out early in the second Overtime, playing only 17 minutes, he ended up having 6 points and 11 assists, playing most of the game at the point was Yuta Tabuse, who continued to play very well for the Bobcats, had some great defensive plays this game, including pressuring Tracy McGrady into a 8 second half court violation, he ended the game with 13 points and 9 assists.

Rafer Alston, who hit the game tying shot to send the game into overtime, fouled out early in the first OT, getting 22 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds for the Rockets.

Bobcats Star Jason Richardson was held down by Ron Artest to 20 points from 7 of 18 shooting, but managed to dish the ball 12 times, and grabbed 5 rebounds as well as 2 steals.

Emeka Okafor, who recently signed a long term extension and had played well throughout the preseason games, had a solid performance, with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals and blocks as he took advantage at the mismatch at Luis Scola.

Yao Ming was held down to just 12 points and 8 rebounds by Shaquille O'Neal, and played only 20 minutes, a big part why the Bobcats were able to pull it out in double ot, he did, however, managed to get 4 blocks in limited minutes.

Larry Brown was exceptionally happy after the game, as his veteran Big Man, who came over from the big trade with the Phoenix Suns, in which the Bobcats gave up Gerald Wallace, Adam Morrison, and Nazr Mohammad, him and Michael Jordan were skeptical at GM Leo's decision when making the trade at first, feeling that O'Neal no longer has that force of domination anymore, but O'Neal has proven himself worthy from this spectacular performance on saturday night.

ImageCharlotte Bobcats 08/09 Season PreviewImage

Offseason Moves
1. Traded Adam Morrison, Gerald Wallace, Nazr Mohammad to Phoenix for Shaquille O'Neal.

Image <--------------->ImageImageImage
This move, although they lose Gerald Wallace, who has been solid for the Bobcats, was a good one considering the fact that they had basically gave away Adam "The Bust" Morrison, and the overpaid Nazr Mohammad, alongside with one solid player in Wallace, for one of the future Hall of Fame Center in Shaquille O'Neal, he might not be as strong, as quick as before, but the skills are still there, as shown in some of the preseason games, and his condition is much better now, after a half season run with the former run and gun suns. He would provide Emeka Okafor with the help he needs inside, and when his contract expires/retires, the Bobcats would get 20 million dollars in cap space to spend, not a bad deal.

2. Signed Free Agent Yuta Tabuse
Image
Larry Brown is very happy, he got his point guard that plays "the right way" in Yuta Tabuse, at just 5'9, many teams are reluctant to sign and use him, but his speed and quickness is as good as Suns Guard Barbosa, and thats saying something. Not a shooter, but is extremely fast, has great court vision, and makes the right plays, nice pickup here with little costs involved.

3. New Head Coach - Larry Brown
Image
The Start of all changes - Larry Brown.
This is a big move from Michael Jordan, and the first one to success, put the Knicks aside, Larry Brown is an amazing NCAA, NBA Head Coach, just by hiring him, the Bobcats are destined to start winning, perhaps not immediately, but very soon.

Position Breakdown

Center
Starter: Shaquille O'Neal
Reserve: Alexis Ajinca

Shaq has still got something in his tank (very big tank indeed), and Alexis has the size, length, and potential, if anything happens, they can always activate Ryan Hollins from the IR.

Power Forward
Starter: Emeka Okafor
Reserves: Sean May, Jermareo Davidson

Emeka is one of the best in shot blocking in the league, and while his offense isnt all that smooth, its getting there, if Sean May doesnt get injured like in the past few years, this 4 spot is good to go, if not, Davidson is there to back them up.

Small Forward
Starter: Jason Richardson
Reserve: Jared Dudley

Jason Richardson is as good as any of those stars in other teams, perhaps not in the class of Kobe or Lebron, but he can put up great numbers night after night, the only concern is Dudley's performance and his health.

Shooting Guard
Starter: Matt Carroll
Reserves: Shannon Brown, Jason Richardson*, Raymond Felton*

this is the biggest weakness of this team, however, if necessary they could bring out either Jason Richardson or Raymond Felton to play out of position and fill in for a bit of time.

Point Guard
Starter: DJ Augustin
Reserves: Yuta Tabuse, Raymond Felton

Larry Brown loves these guys, and this is perhaps the position with the most and best depth in it, with the winner of the Bob Cousy award, rookie DJ Augustin starting, and former starter Raymond Felton, as well as Japanese Star Yuta Tabuse coming off the bench, this place would be the least of the Bobcats' worries.
