Pistons get their revenge, a whopping 51 points of it!

Boxscores:[Spurs]|[Pistons]

The Spurs knew that the Pistons would be wanting to get revenge from last yeasrs series.
But who would have guessed it would have been this nasty....
Holding the Spurs to a playoff low 68 points, and a record 5 point 3rd quarter
the Pistons marched on to perhaps one of the biggest finals victories ever.
Nobody could have picked the result as the Spurs were favourites to win the series
while the Pistons had only a small edge in the odds to take the first game.

The Pistons once again played a game where they never trailed,
playing slow grind it out ball for the first half of the game, they managed to limit the Spurs shot attempts.
Flip Saunders must have said somethign special in the locker room at half time
as the Pistons came out firing with a passion that had seemed to be missing for most fo the playoffs.

Rip Hamilton had a great Rhythm going during the game, totalling an impressive 34 points
while being hasseled the whole night by Bruce Bowen, Ginobili and Finley.
Billups once again had a great game leading from the Point,
and if game 2 is a win for the Pistons he will surely get his second Finals MVP.
Ben Wallace went down with an Injury in the first quarter, but returned to the game,
However after the game he was reassesd and he in doubtful for the next game with a sore elbow
He will However be avaliable for the final game of the series if neccesary.

ImageImage
Coach Flip Saunders really managed to get his troops firing today || Ben's Injury will be a concern for the Pistons, it will make winning in Texas all the more difficult.
ImageImage
The Tipoff of the Game one of the NBA Finals || Ben Wallace once again was an animal on defense, despite playing injured.
ImageImage
Ginobili put up 21 points, but appart from TD he didnt get much help || Tayshuan managed to get to the line 10 tiems this game, on drives like this.

Next up: NBA Finals Game 2 @ San Antonio

Pistons take home the title in an intensly fought finale.

Image

Boxscores:[Pistons]|[Spurs]

It was a lot to ask for the Pistons to go to San Antonio for game 2 and win without Ben Wallace.
But thats what they did in a thrilling final match up which saw the Pistons complete perhaps the most
important comeback in these playoffs and possibly franchise history.

The Pundits had Detroit as clear underdogs in this matchup due to the loss of Ben Wallace.
That was how they played as well for the first 3 quarters of the game.
Once again the Pistons proved that they are the best 4th quarter team in the League especially when it matters
Using some great shut down D, they closed down the San Antonio offense
and proceeded to score off each turnover they prouduced.
THe Spurs werent about to let the trophy get away that easily, and with 5 minutes left
and a 8 point lead they managed to keep it at that until 2 minutes remained.

Once again it was Chauncy "4th Quarter" Billups who came to the rescue scoring 9 straight points
to put the Pistons up 113-112 with a minute to play.
The Spurs tried to force a steal but the Pistons managed to run down the clock, and missed on the shot attempt.
The next defensive possession for the Pistons was key as Rasheed Wallace had a huge block on Van Exel.
The Pistons brought the ball up court and the Spurs were forced to foul with 20 seconds left.
Billups made the first shot, but missed on the second, however showing amazing composure
he managed to get the rebound to be fouled again.
Billups calmly made both attempts to put the Pistons up 116-112 with 17 seconds left.
The Spurs tried for a quick shot on the next possession, but a great interception from Tayshuan Prince
forced the Spurs to foul again, with Prince making 1-2 to put the Pistons up 117 to 112 with 5 seconds left.
The Spurs never got past halfway as they were out of timeouts, and couldn't break the Pistons tight D.
The Pistons bench poured onto the court, with Injured Ben Wallace leading the charge suited up in his uniform to recieve the trophy.

Let the Celebrations Begin!!
Image

ImageImage
The Pistons two big clutch plays to seal the win, the block could be expected, but Billups rebound...
ImageImage
Tayshuan Prince stepped up with Sheed having to spend a lot of his energy on defense. || Hunter hitting a buzzer beater at the end of the 2nd.
ImageImage
The war of the point guards was clearly won by Billups, the Spurs could have really benefited from Parker stepping up.

Chauncy Billups was announced as the MVP of the NBA Finals,
scoring 23.2 points per game throughout the playoffs as well as averaging 10.1 assists,
Billups was a force that all opposing teams had trouble stopping.
More importanty was the time when he chose to dominate, namely during the 4th quarter.
During these playoffs Billups has put on some performances that will go down in history
as being some of the best the league has ever seen.
The most memorable will surely be the 27 points, 7 steal effort he put in during the 4th quarter of game 2
of the Eastern Conference Finals to push the Pistons through to the second round.

Final Offical Top 40 Prospect Board Announced

Today the Final Offical Top 40 Prospect Board was announced.
Created more as a way for fans to track their fav prospects through the whole lead up to the draft
it has quickly become popular with GM's and Scouting staff all over the league
as a way to keep up with other teams player evaluations etc.
This years final board would have been hard to predict,
made up of quite a few unkowns (Generics) who have only recently made it onto the scene,
chuck in some young and interesting prospects that have been making some noise the past few months (NLSCers)
and finally add the more established well known prospects (Real life Prospects)
and we have ourselves a very unpredictable draft pool indeed.
While we cant expect this years batch to be on par with the likes of the 03 draft,
it looks like this year may bring us some future stars as well as some interesting personalities.
