[ Box Score ]

The Washington Wizards still remembered the loss to the Seattle Sonics
a month ago. Ofcource they wanted a revenge.

But the game looked to go the other way as the Sonics quickly opened a
nine point lead led by Ray Allen with 11 points. The Wizards shot only
.261 percent from the field and lost the opening period 17-26.

Seattle slowed the game down and the difference remained even though
Washington was dominating the glass (17-7). Rashad Lewis, who had
just returned from an injury posted 8 points in the second quarter. The
best scorers at the half were Allen and Arenas with 18 and 15 points.

The wizards must have had a hell of an inspiration from coach Eddie
Jordan's half time talk, because they played their best quarter of the season.
Washington forced the Sonics to 8 turnovers and shot .739 percent from
the field as Arenas and Hughes combined 32 points (!) in the third. Ray
Allen (12 points) was the only Sonic to keep their team in it as they lost
the period 20-45.

Both of the teams performed poorly in the last quarter, only Antawn
Jamison managed to show his better side. Both teams shot under 30%
from the field as Washington won the period thanks to multiple trips to
the freethrow-line and ended the game with a 24-point victory and grows
their home court winning streak to 8 games.

The match up between Allen and Arenas turned out great, both scored 36
points and grabbed over 5 rebounds, but Arenas was more efficient in stealing
and passing the rock. Washington's big men Howard and Haywood were
dominating the key, the combined 25 rebounds and 4 blocks.

got milk? Rookie Challenge

February 18, 2005
Sophomores Stop Rookies in the
got milk? Rookie Challenge

Sophmores 99 - Rookies 86

[ Box Score: -Sophmores- -Rookies- ]

The start of the All-Star Weekend, the got milk? Rookie Challenge, was a bit
of a disappointment. This was one of the lowest Rookie Challenge scores
ever.

The Rookies had a slow start as the Sophomores pulled away 14-2 in the
opening minutes. Dwyane Wade was the main reason the Sophs kept the
lead, he scored 9 in the first half as the best Rookie was Ben Gordon with
7 points. The Sophomores won the quarter 32-25. it promised to be an
exciting high-score game.

But the second period wasn't that beautiful, both of the teams missed a lot
of open shots and dunks, the scores were nothing near All-Star level. The
rookies pulled back and won the quarter 18-14. The best players were Andre
Iguodala with 8 and LeBron James who scored all of his 12 points in the
second period and was Sophomores' Key Player at the half. The best Rookie
at the half was Robert Swift with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

The Rookies were hot in the beginning of the second half, they started the
third quarter with a mad 16-1 run as it seemed that they are going towards
the victory. Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor teamed up big as they
combined 19 points and 9 rebounds in the third. But Carmelo Anthony
didn't like the way the things were going, he stepped up late in the third
to score 4 consecutive baskets ans 12 of his 18 points and pulled the Sophs
back. It was a close game, the third quarter ended at a lead 73-70 for the
Rookie team.

The Sophomore team was all over the court in the last period, they dominated
the rebounds by grabbing 16 of the 21 open balls. Only Dwight Howard had
some luck, he scored 6 of his teams 13 last-quarter points. The Sophomores
were led by Jason Kapono, who nailed four 3-pointers in the fourth and totaled
19 points, and Dwyane Wade who scored 16 of his 33 points at the last period.
The Rookies were done, the Sophs won it 99-86.

As commissioner David Stern handed Wade the Rookie Challenge MVP Award
he said: “It's my honor to award one of the best point guards in the league, surely
a future multiple NBA champion Dwyane Wade with this trophy that he earned
100%” It's seems that Stern has his eye set on the Heat when talking about the
playoffs, or was it just a compliment? Either way Wade proved his skills of
shooting and passing tonight. Wade on his game: “I didn't want to be a ball hog,
but someone had to step up, c'mon, loosing to the Rookies? You are out of your
mind to consider that.”

February 19, 2005
Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest
(LIVE)

EJ: It's February 19, the All-Star Saturday, and the best dunkers around the league
will show their stuff tonight. I'm Ernie Johnson and by my side Kenny “The Jet”
Smith.

KS: Thanks Ernie, glad to be here tonight.

EJ: Well, we got four names for you: Dwight Howard, Steve Francis, Kedrick
Brown and Ben Gordon. Howard a bit bigger than rest of the crew, advantage?

KS: I don't think so! This guy i bigger, that means less distance to the hoop, I
think that the judges will be a bit more rough on him than the other guys. I ain't
saying that he can't dunk, but I'd put my money on Stevie Franchise.

EJ: Can't argue there, seems like he's the top dog today.

KS: Quit calling my man a dog, you don't want to go there...

EJ: Emm, looks like the contest is starting, once again, here are your dunkers for
tonight's Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest.

Image

...

Dwight Howard, Round 1, 1st Attempt

EJ: Howard looks ready to get things started, let's see what he has in store for us
with the first dunk of the night. Here's a guy who always gives the fans what they
want.

KS: Let's see...

EJ: A toss? Not a good one...

KS: A second one? Not bad, but c'mon kid, you must finish the dunk!

EJ: Now a perfect toss, he's in the air...

KS: WOW! He put his elbow in the ring! I love it! Not as good as Vince, but he
didn't do it off a toss.

EJ: I don't know, that didn't look good, he fell down like a rock.

KS: Huh?

EJ: Well the judges seem to like it! It's a 50! Big Start!

Image

...

Steve Francis, Round 1, 1st Attempt

EJ: Stevie had mad hops and imagination! This will be great!

EJ: A toss off the screen!?!

EJ: And between the legs!!! Kenny?

KS: I'm speechless, i thought it was too high! Look what he does with it! 50!

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Kedrick Brown, Round 1, 1st Attempt

EJ: Now a man from Philly, has some amazing dunks in his repertoire.

EJ: An interesting start...

EJ: What a pass! What a catch!

KS: Did he even see the ball???

EJ: well the judges wanted some more, nines across the board, 45 points.

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Ben Gordon, Round 1, 1st Attempt

EJ: Last dunker of the First round. Some of the guys think by going last you really
have the advantage in this competition. Lets see...

EJ: I like the looks of this. I mean this one was well thought!

KS: The creativity! The thought process! The timing! Look at him catch it!
50! 50! 50! That's like the dunk of the year!

EJ: And the judges seem to agree there Kenny...

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

EJ: Well what did you think of the first attempts of the first round?

KS: Well it was just great, except for Kedrick.

EJ: He was the only one not to start with a 50...

KS: Yeah, I think it's over for him, the other guys are so good, even though the
difference is just 5 points...

EJ: OK, we will take a little break to give a word to our sponsors, don't go anywhere...

...

Image
The judges had a plenty of tens to give in the first round.

February 19, 2005
Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest
(LIVE)

EJ: Welcome back folks, it's the NBA All-Star Weekend and you are watching the
Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest I'm Ernie Johnson and by my side Kenny
“The Jet” Smith. Now the second attempts, Kenny?

KS: Dead even! But I'd still would bet on Francis to win...

EJ: OK, here we go!

...

Dwight Howard, Round 1, 2nd Attempt

EJ: Let's see if he puts up something special.

KS: A toss of the elbow again? C'mon kid we saw the replays of the first one...

KS: Aww, forget the pass, did you see that???

EJ: I believe it's called a 360 degree windmill?

KS: Off a toss, Ernie, off a toss... 50!

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Steve Francis, Round 1, 2nd Attempt

EJ: I want to see something I haven't seen before...

EJ: This might be a little risky? How tough is that, Jet?

KS: That's impossible! That's incredible and unbelievable! A lot of un-s!

EJ: I'm unwilling to believe it!

KS: Now that's a 50! Now that's a 50! Nobody's giving less than a 10! NO WAY!

EJ: OK, here's something, Clyde Dexler doesn't agree...

KS: I don't know why... Clyde you better have heck of an excuse...

CD: Guys did you even see the last dunk? Two 360 windmills in a row is not cool!

EJ: Sounds fair, so Stevie scores a 49, still a good result!

KS: If Stevie isn't in the finals, I'm going to hunt you down, Dexler...

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Kedrick Brown, Round 1, 2nd Attempt

EJ: We'll see what he has cooked up... Taking off from the left wing...

KS: C'mon that's a game dunk! It will look good in a game but here? Terrible! Terrible!

EJ: Sevens and eights, a total of 37. He's out!

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Kedrick Brown, Round 1, 2nd Attempt

EJ: OK, Ben needs a 50 to advance, can he do it?

KS: I's say yes, but then again, my money is on Steve... Sorry to say this, but no, he'll
see the final from the sideline...

EJ: The toss is special...

KS: I told you! That dunk wasn't that good... The pass was, but it's a dunking contest,
the skill challenge was earlier today...

EJ: A 44, ranks third tonight.

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

EJ: And here's the score table...

Image

KS: All good, right men in the final, we're going to enjoy this...

EJ: A little break and we'll be back with the final...

February 19, 2005
Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest
(LIVE)

EJ: Hope you enjoyed the break folks, we're back with the Sprite Rising Stars Slam
Dunk Contest, I'm Ernie Johnson and by my side Kenny “The Jet” Smith. It is time
for the final round!

KS: You don't say...

EJ: These guys are former teamates and now will step against each other in the dunk
contest final. Did the Wizards save Howard from a sinking ship?

KS: Indeed, Orlando has had a lousy season, only one team to the playoffs from Florida...

EJ: OK, the time has arrived...

...

Steve Francis, Final Round, 1st Attempt

EJ: Can he deliver? This is interesting...

KS: The windmill! A nice one!

EJ: It looked good, but I doubt it will earn a 50.

KS: You got something against my man Francis?!?

EJ: Emm, as I said, a 48, I'd say Howard has an advantage.

KS: He has to dunk first...

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Dwight Howard, Final Round, 1st Attempt

EJ: Hmm, interesting, can't finish it?

KS: Is this for Clyde? Seems familiar...

EJ: Not again?

KS: Cool down, boy! Rock the Cradle!

EJ: A difficult one, good points are coming... And it's a 50!

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Steve Francis, Final Round, 2nd Attempt

KS: My man must deliver, or else its' over!

EJ: Well said, if it's you final dunk of the night you must give all you got...

EJ: Off the head??? Oh my...

KS: YES!!! unbelievable! 50!

EJ: And so it is, now it's out of his hands...

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

Dwight Howard, Final Round, 2nd Attempt

EJ: Score to beat – 48. At least three of the judges must think that this dunk
is perfect. But then again he is the only man who has had 50-s all night long...
The kid seems a bit nervous.

KS: Who wouldn't be...

EJ: How about you? Were you nervous at your times?

KS: Hell yeah! I almost shit in my pants!

EJ: 10 seconds...

KS: OH MY GOD!!! BETWEEN THE LEGS TWICE!!!

EJ: That is special!!!

KS: That's a 50! That was sick, Ernie! Crazy! Loco!

EJ: The judges agree, this one is over, Dwight Howard is this years best dunker!

Image
Click the image to download the video.

...

EJ: And the final results, Howard with a total of 200 out of possible 200.

Image

KS: Yep, he deserved it!

EJ: Nothing to it, it's time to end the broadcast, remember to watch the
Footlocker 3-point Shootout.

KS: Bye folks!

EJ: Thanks for watching, I'm Ernie Johnson, right next to me was
Kenny “The Jet” Smith and this was the 2005 Sprite Rising Stars Slam
Dunk Contest won by a Wizard, Dwight Howard.

2005 NBA Footlocker 3-Point Shootout

Postby Heiks on Sun Apr 17, 2005 7:44 pm

Image

February 19, 2005
2005 NBA Footlocker 3-Point Shootout
Annual gathering of the best shooters in the league.

This years 3-Point Shootout featured many sharpshooter and it promised
to be an exciting contest. Among other contestants are Gilbert Arenas,
who has played his best season of his career, Seattle's Ray Allen, who was
the 3-Point Champion in 2001, former Dunk Contest winner Brent Barry.

Image
This years Footlocker 3-Point Shootout contestants.

...

The First Round

Arenas started the contest with a sweet 21-point result, made 9 consecutive
shots to tie for 4th place in the record books. Up next, Armstrong was not
at the level, he had only 4 points after three racks and finished with 12.
Ray Allen was the first man to hit all the money-balls but that wasn't enough,
he came up with 17 points. Portland's Derek Anderson had also a poor round
with 12 points. At this moment it seemed that Gilbert Arenas is going to
get away with the win. Michael Finley had 19 and pulled close to the final,
holding the second spot then. Brent Barry was good on the first two racks,
but nailed only the money-balls on the last three, so he finished with 14 points.
Vladimir Radmanovic had two great 6-shot streaks and passed Finley by one.
Last to shoot, Jason Kidd couldn't do more than 17 points. The Finalists were
clear.

...

The Final Round

Radmanovic opened the finals with a average result. He started off 3/10 and
couldn't hit any of the money-balls. 15 points. Gilbert Arenas had more than a
good chance to take it all home.

Play-by-play by Ernie Johnson:
“It's all down to him. Gilbert knows what's on the line. Here we go! First one's
a miss. Now, 1, 2, 3 and the money-ball! Thats 5. 6, 7, 8, 9, the second money-ball!
He's on fire now! 11 points out of possible 12! 12, 13, 14, 15, plus the money-ball!!!
It's over! He did it on the first three racks! 14 consecutive shots made! Now couple
of misses. 18, 19, 21. The last rack! 22, 23, a miss, a miss and the money-ball!!! 25!!!
25!!! He made all the money-balls, 14 shots in a row, and tied the all-time record of 25
with Craig Hodges, most points ever shot in the Final Round! Gilbert Arenas is our
2005 NBA Footlocker 3-Point Shootout Champion! Congratulations!”

54th Nba All-Star Game

Postby Heiks on Mon Apr 18, 2005 12:49 am

Image

February 20, 2005
The East Won the 54th NBA All-Star
Game In an Exciting Overtime

East 144 - West 140

[ Box Score: -East- -West- -Team Stats- ]

The best of the best gathered in Denver, Colorado for the 54th annual NBA
All-Star Game. The most exciting event of the season was worth every penny
that was invested in it, the audience got a fabulous show to watch.

The West started big: they opened the game with a 7-0 run and shot over 60%
throughout the first quarter. Ray Allen and Baron Davis took care of the scoring,
at the same time pulling off some wicked dunks. The duo combined 21 in the
opening period. The Eastern All-Stars were in a deep hole until Vince Carter
came in. He helped his team to pull back from a 19 to 13 in a few minutes as he
scored 10 points at 5/5 shooting. The first ended at the score 42-29 for the West.

The East started a furious rally towards the lead. They out rebounded the West
13-8 and shot 67% . Jason Kidd was the most productive player on the court,
he had 10 points, 3 assists and two steals. Kobe Bryant Pulled off a wild dunk on
Ricky Davis and Vince Carter, at the other end Ben Wallace was rocking the
rim. The difference decreased to 5 as the West was still on top 71-66. The best
performances were put up by Hornet's Baron Davis (12pts, 3rebs, 3asts, 2stls) and
Detroit's Ben Wallace (12pts, 6rebs, 2stls).

Kevin Garnett scored the first two in the second half and let everybody know that
West isn't going to give the lead away. The third quarter turned out to be a two
man battle between the pointguards Gilbert Arenas and Baron Davis. The two
players scored a combined 14 consecutive points during the period. The top candidate
for the season MVP, Kevin Garnett had been shy in the first two quarters but this
didn't stop him from scoring in the third. The West Grew it's lead back to 13
thanks to great shooting from the field. With 12 minutes to go the score was 107-94
for the Western All-Stars.

The Eastern All-Stars were in front of a tough assignment. A 13-point deficit to
come back from. They played some good defense and managed to hold the West
to 22 points, which is a quite low score for an All-Star Game. Ray Allen and
Baron Davis combined 13 in the fourth quarter and 65 throughout the whole game.
Arenas nailed 3 very important 3-pointers down the stretch and forced the game to
overtime. The score was 129-129.

Both of the teams shot poorly in the overtime. The West managed to pull ahead,
but only for a few minutes. The key figures of the OT were guards Paul Pierce and
Richard Hamilton. They scored 13 of the teams 15 points in the OT and posted a
144-140 victory for the Eastern All-Stars.

There were a lot of options for the game MVP: Minnesota's forward Kevin Garnett
(18pts, 11rebs, 3asts, 2blks, 3stls), Seattle's Ray Allen (32pts, 4rebs, 3asts, 5stls),
New Orleans' Baron Davis (33pts, 6rebs, 8asts, 4stls), Richard Hamilton who
dominated OT (7 of his 18pts), Gilbert Arenas (26pts, 2rebs, 5asts, 2stls) or Jason
Kidd (20pts, 2rebs, 6asts, 3stls).

But the one to lift the trophy was Washington's Gilbert Arenas. Most of his points
came in the third and fourth quarter, he nailed 6 3-pointers, 3 of them late in the 4th
period to force the game to OT.

Arenas on his game: “A great weekend for me! I would have never thought that I'd
pull this off. Some of the guys really deserved the trophy more than me but what can
I do? (laughs) I will dedicate this award one to two of my biggest fans, my father and
mother, who have been with me through the bad and the good. Special thanks to all
of my other fans, you mean as much to me! Thank you all!”
