Hey, where has Peja disappeared to? His perrenial palyoff choking is acting up again? Must be the Serbian part of his Greco-Serbian heritage that keeps him behind...

Good luck with the Kings, Mafia... Since San Antonio is out, I'll be rooting for the Suns to win the O'Brien trophy this season... (Y)

SUNS VS. KINGS
ARCO Arena, Sacramento, 7:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: ABC; KTAR 620
SEASON RECORD: Kings, 56-26; Suns, 64-18.
SEASON SERIES: 3-1 Suns
PLAYOFF SERIES: 2-0 Suns
INJURY REPORT: Suns Jim Jackson (strained calf) out indefinitely

KEY PLAYERS ON SUNS
Amare SToudemire- 31pts, 15rebs, 2blks in Game 2
Steve Nash- 10 assists per game in 2nd round
Joe Johnson- 23ppg and 6.5apg in 2nd round

KEY PLAYERS ON KINGS
Peja Stojakovic- 16.5ppg in 2nd round
Mike Bibby- 30 points in Games 1 and 2
Bobby Jackson- 8.5ppg off the bench in 2nd round

SACRAMENTO (Ticker) -- The Kings will look to win their first game of the series as they host the Phoenix Suns in ARCO Arena tonight. The Kings rarely lose in that arena and during playoff time, it can become very loud. Cow bells ring throughout the game and the noise is excessively loud at all times. The key to the Suns winning tonight is to keep the crowd quiet. "We can't let the Kings go on a major run and get the fans into the game because the fans can really change the momentum of the team," Suns guard/forward Quentin Richardson said. That's easier said than done with Mike Bibby avearging 30ppg in the first two games of the series and Peja Stojakovic has yet to have a big game. Tonight might be the night when he becomes a major factor on the team. "I have yet to do any damage in the series due to a bad shooting night, then fouling out the other night," Stojakovic said. "I'm very focused right now so I'm just keeping my mind on the game at all times."

If the Suns can win tonight's game, they will only be one game shy of heading to the Western Conference Finals to face either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are leading the series 2 games to none and they are on the verge of their 2nd upset of the playoffs as they already beat the 2nd seeded San Antonio Spurs. "The Rockets have been doing alot of damage in the playoffs and if we are to play them, it will be a great series," Suns all-star Steve Nash said. The average margin of defeat between the two teams in this series has been +18 in Phoenix favor. "In Game 1, it was out overall offense that did the job, and in Game 2, it was our 2nd half outburst," Steven Hunter said. Fatigue may come into play tonight for the Kings as they went through a 7 game series against the Grizzlies compared to the Suns 6 game series. Phoenix has been a great road team during the season and they went 2-0 in ARCO during the season so they are no stranger to the arena. Brad Miller is also expected to return for the Kings tonight. "He looked real good in practice and I'm going to let him start tonight and see how well he plays throughout the game," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.

Brad Miller's return wasn't enough for the Kings to beat the Suns

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Phoenix once again showed why they hold the number 1 seed in the playoffs. After showing signs of falling apart in Game 3, one of the Suns big men stepped up and put the entire load on his shoulders to keep the Suns from falling. That man is Amare Stoudemire, who struggled early in Round 1 of the playoffs, but went on to dominate in the 2nd round for the Suns. "He is the new man-child in this league," Quentin Richardson said. "He should've been an MVP canidate or nominated for Most Improved Player because he has just been the man all season long for us."

Stoudemire went into the 4th quarter with 29 points and continued to sizzle in the 4th. Joe Johnson found Stoudemire open with Ostertag coming over too late and jammed in a monster dunk that gave him 33 points and his team an 83-77 lead with 9:45 left in the game. Stojakovic closed the Suns lead to one-point after making an off-balanced jumper over Richardson with 7:40 left in regulation. Bobby Jackson made a 3-pointer over Johnson to give the Kings a 91-89 lead at the 6:00 mark and the Suns were forced to use a timeout. After the timeout, Joe Johnson shot an 18-foot jumper off a pick from Stoudemire, and Peja fouled him in the air which was his 6th foul of the game and he had to sit for his 2nd straight game. "The refs gave us alot of "BS" calls and you can look at the Suns free throw numbers compared to ours," Cuttino Mobley said. "Having Peja fouling out for the 2nd straight game really hurt us and half of those fouls shouldn't have been called."

The Suns regained the lead after Hunter fed Stoudemire inside for the easy dunk to put Phoenix back up 93-91 with 4:48 left in the game. On the Kings next possession, Millerh ad the ball in the post and Barbosa came and ripped it away and the Suns were off to the races as he saw Richardson ahead of the pack for the dunk to put Phoenix up 95-91. Barbosa didn't stop there as he made a big time 3-pointer at the top of the key to put the Suns up 100-94 with 3:35 remaining and at the 2:01 mark, he made another long ball to give the Suns a 104-96 lead.

The Kings had to call a timeout with 1:30 left in the game after Stoudemire threw down his 3rd dunk of the quarter to put the Suns up double digits. After Mike Bibby missed another shot, Sacramento fouled Stoudemire with 59.3 seconds and he made both free throws that gave him 41 points for the game which was a playoff career-high. He sat out for the last 59 seconds on the bench as the coaching staff and players high-fived him and complimented him on his great night. "He amazes you every night with his play," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He has pulled through for us in many games this season and this was one really counted as this game now gives us the chance to get an early start on the Western Conference Finals if we are able to win Game 4." The Suns shot a season-high 46 free throws in the game and made 38 of them, while the Kings only shot 17 free throws.

I agree with what everyone wrote: Go Kings!
Nobody deserves to be swept, except the Lakers but they're not even in the playoffs right now.

Sun Apr 24, 2005 5:45 pm

Just sweep the Kings already, their winning days in this league are over. There's only one winning team in Cali... the Warriors!

Errrm, on second thought, scratch that from the records...

Looks like Peja has gotten a bit too aggresive in this series... Fouled out...

Andrel Rolle is a nice pick for the Cards (Y)

 They have fought hard, but if Peja can't stay out of foul trouble then what's the use

Well you right about that, but the Spurs didn't deserve to be swept either

I will try to end the series today if the team can hold off Peja for one more night. I was thinking the Heat would own the Celtics in the series, but it looks as though it might go 7 games.

Houston is definitely the cinderella of his playoff. The Magic are getting dominated against the Pistons so I wouldn't consider them as the cinderella anymore.

SACRAMENTO (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings are on the verge of facing elimination tonight if they can't come up with a win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Things have looked bad for the team throughout the series with Stojakovic playing some of his worse basketball in the playoffs, while fouling out in 2 of the 3 games played. The only positive for the team has been Mike Bibby who is averaging 26.3ppg during the series. Players like Corliss Williamson and Bobby Jackson have been solid off the bench and with Brad Miller making his return, he looked good with a double-double. But, with Stojakovic not feeling it throughout the game, the Kings can't survive against the high-powered Suns.

On the Suns end, Amare Stoudemire has been the main man on this team during the series. He scored just 17 points in Game 1, but in Game 2 he scored 31 points, while grabbing 15 rebounds. Then, in Game 3, he exploded for 41 points and 12 rebounds. He has took control of the entire series and is definitely looking like the MVP for the Suns in the series. He led the team during the 2nd half scoring 12 of his 41 points in the final quarter. Leandrosa Barbosa has been a key part to the Suns success to go with Walter McCarty. Both players have stepped up in their roles with Jim Jackson hurt. Barbosa came through down the stretch in Game 3, getting a steal and making two 3-pointers to seal the game for Phoenix. Walter McCarty has did a great job on containing Peja Stojakovic just as he did against Carmelo Anthony in the first round. The Rockets hold a 3-0 advantage of the Timberwolves, the Pistons hold a 3-0 advantage ove the Magic and the Celtics hold a 2-1 advantage over the Heat. So, three teams could possibly advance to the Finals of their respective conferences with a win.

The Suns will face the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Stojakovic had the night everyone expected for him to have throughout the entire series. Even though he fouled out once again late in the 4th quarter, he scored 38 points, which was 3 points shy of his career-high to go along with 7 assists. Bibby was doing his usual damage, finishing with 30 points, but the Kings still loss. Sacramento as a team, shot 54% from the field compared to the Suns 49%. "Our two top players played very well tonight and we shot a better percentage from the field, but we forgot to rebound tonight," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. The Suns outrebounded the Kings 47-34 and Shawn Marion got the most of it with 18 boards.

The Suns started to pull away after Johnson made two 3's to give Phoenix their largest lead at 98-81. The pick and roll that Nash and Stoudemire ran was perfected through the 4th quarter as they converted 3 straight times on it. Stojakovic continued his breakout night as he made a 3 in the corner to move the Kings within' 106-89 and gave him 32 points for the game. He still had 5 fouls in the game along with Amare Stoudemire. Mike Bibby came through the lane and made a layup over Stoudemire to move within' 106-95 which was part of a 6-0 run at the 6:30 mark. At the 5:45 mark, Miller bulldozed Stoudemire in the paint lowering his shoulder, and Amare was called for his 6th foul. He had to sit with 34 point and 9 rebounds. A few seconds later, Bibby made a short jumper over Barbosa and pulled the Kings within' 8 points and the Suns used one of their 3 timeouts. Joe Johnson was able to end the 12-1 run with a 3-point dagger to put Phoenix back up 110-91.

Johnson came through in the clutch like he did so many times against the Kings this season and put the Suns up 119-107 with 1:47 left in the quarter and shooting a desperation 3 with the shot clock whining down and the Kings used their 2nd timeout and only had one left. Cuttino Mobley made a 3 to cut the deficit to 119-110 and the Kings fouled Johnson with 59.3 seconds left, but still had a foul to give. Johnson was able to run 2 seconds off the clock before being fouled by Stojakovic who fouled out once again in Game 4. Johnson missed both FT's and Williamson grabbed the rebound and quickly used their last timeout.

The Kings went for the quick two with Bibby, and his runner over Marion hit the side of the rim and Marion grabbed his 17th rebound of the game and was fouled by Bibby with 51.2 seconds left. Marion made both freebies and Phoenix led 121-110. Mobley and Bibby miscommunicated on a cross court pass that was picked off by Nash with 43 seconds left and the Kings backed off, not fouling. The Suns will now face the Houston Rockets in the Conference Finals. "Both teams are coming into the Finals hot. We have won 8 straight and they have won 8 straight," Nash said. "It should be one great matchup."
