yep, it was a fitting role for Cheaney considering he was a college superstar at Indiana under Bob Knight....off-season news will continue to roll on, glad you could drop by

Sit wrote:Bye Bye the Glove! Sad to see him leave! :)

yep, guess all the moving around wasn't good for his family & he finally wanted to settle down, with 2 NBA Finals appearances & zero titles to his name :(

Jugs wrote:Nice Retirement class, sad to see Zo and the Glove go. as well as Antonio, Dikembe, Brian and Armstrong

yep, it's a very strong retirement class....I'd say it's an exception, not the norm....cleaning out all the dead wood so to speak :P

zmac|two3 wrote:Dike-embe, that was expected.

yep, Dikembe should've given up a couple of years ago, closer to his prime, but ahh well....as for Zo, can't blame him, with the kidneys & all....

Jing wrote:hm wow zo is going.... and googs!!!!

yep, good old Googs, but that should be no surprise considering he hasn't been in the league in the last few years....

Just started following your dynasty. Very very nice. I love Portland as a team but in all fairness, they suck (wish they didn't). Anyways hope you can change all that and put them back to their winning ways. From all indications and what I've read, you'll be doing just that. I have a question though, its a general question. What do you do with players that are not very good but are young and could develope? Hope you can help me out with this one.

hey, thanks for popping in....as for the young players who aren't very good but have potential, stick them either very low on your active roster (11th or 12th position so out of playing rotation) or on your IR....then start training them up & developing them....as a rookie, they might not play at all....as a 2nd year player, they might see garbage time....by the time they hit their 3rd & 4th years, they should really be ready to contribute & get some minutes off bench of some sort....if not, & they don't look like they're going to improve, then cut your losses....

hope that helped

some of the meanest elbows in NBA history

Some highlights from his illustrious career....

Image
Brought his No. 8 Nuggets back from 0-2 down in best of 5 series to beat the Seattle Supersonics 3-2. One of my favourite NBA moments of all-time as he clutches the ball after the Nuggets won game 5 over the team with the best record in the NBA

ImageImage
His elbows will go down in NBA history as some of the sharpest. Lebron James was just one of many victims

So long....we'll miss the finger wagging

2006 OFF-SEASON COVERAGE

Who will strike it lucky this year & try to pin their hopes on my one young man to become the face of their franchise? Franchises can be made or falter with a simple combination of lotto balls. Without further ado, let's cross over to the draft lottery.

NBA DRAFT LOTTERY

With the 4th worst record in the NBA last season, the Portland Trailblazers were hoping to strike it lucky & land the top pick in the draft. Let's check the results of this year's draft lottery.

Image

Unbelievable twist of fate. With only a 6.3% overall chance of striking it lucky, the Washington Wizards have won the right to select at No. 1, as they move from No. 6 up to No. 1 overall pick. That gives the Wizards a choice between Adam Morrison, Andrea Bargnani & LaMarcus Aldridge. Whilst this draft doesn't have a marquee impact star, a No. 1 pick is nevertheless a No. 1 pick. Combining one of these 3 players with a core of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison & Caron Butler makes this Wizards' team look even stronger on paper.

Biggest Winners: Washington Wizards & Seattle Supersonics. As you know, the Wizards moved up from No. 6 to No. 1, but they weren't the only big movers. The Seattle Supersonics moved up from the No. 10 spot to No. 3 overall, & have a legitimate chance on getting local hero, Adam Morrison of Gonzaga. Whether they'll go that way remains to be seen, but they now have that option, & didn't have that a day ago.

Biggest Loser: Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers & Portland Trailblazers. The Jazz had the biggest fall as the worst possible scenario for them unfolded, dropped from No. 1 overall down to the No. 4 spot. That means that they are likely out of the running for the Big 3. The Lakers & Blazers both dropped 2 spots, to the No. 5 & No. 6 spots, respectively. Both teams have a pretty good core & should be able to pick up a pretty good player so it's not the end of the world for either franchise.

The Orlando Magic dropped 2 spots, as Toronto, LA Clippers & Chicago also dropped 1 spot as a result of Seattle moving up.

6th spot, good, now u can get a good pick (Y)

Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:20 pm

6 spot seems ok....

6th on nbadraft.net is rodney carney, so are u gonna draft him?

Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:22 pm

Bad luck, you lost 2 spots from your odds.

6th is still good tho...

Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:26 pm

It would suck to be Utah, bad season and more bad luck, dropping to 4th pick. hopefully they'll get that player they need :)

As for Portland, hopefully they'll get their back-up PF/C or starting SG or anything that's NBA ready

Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:34 pm

6th aint bad gud job, but thats wack seattle had a 14/1000 and their at 3rd and portland had 119, o well good luck with u pick choose wisley (Y)(Y)(Y)

is a definite possibility....check the mock drafts that are coming ASAP for a better idea....

yep, fell the maximum 2 spots, but I'm reasonably happy with the spot....

yep, I really feel sorry for the Jazz....they stunk it up so, so badly & then get screwed at the lottery....ahh well, shit happens

yep, I'm looking for a backup PF or SG....doubt any of the SG's will be able to supplant Morris Peterson, although one or two of them could force a trade of him

Dee Rip wrote:6th aint bad gud job, but thats wack seattle had a 14/1000 and their at 3rd and portland had 119, o well good luck with u pick choose wisley (Y)(Y)(Y)

yep, looks like Seattle might get Adam Morrison after all  wisely, we'll see  I'm the regular Babcock (or Jerry West, depends how you look at it) of the draft

2006 OFF-SEASON COVERAGE

With the NBA Draft Lottery be & gone, it's time to project how the lottery picks will stack up when all is said & done.

NLSC INSIDER'S MOCK DRAFT LOTTERY

By 'Chad Forde'
NLSC Insider

I'm going to give a quick rundown of how I expect this year's draft to go. There are no sure-fire talents, but still a lot of good ones, so it won't be an easy task trying to pick it this year.

1. Washington: SF/SG- Adam Morrison, Gonzaga

Whilst I think the Wizards would be better served picking Aldridge or Bargnani with this pick, the stock of both of those players have been all over the place, & I think the Wizards will take the safe, albeit not the smart option, & take Morrison. The Wizards could use another tough-minded, scorer from the wing like Morrison, but help inside would seem of a more immediate need.

2. New Orleans-Oklahoma City: PF/C- LaMarcus Aldridge, Texas

Hornets are in desperate need of height as P.J. Brown is not the answer in the middle. Aldridge would be a nice big target for sensational young PG Chris Paul to throw at. If Aldridge goes to Washington, I see the Hornets grabbing Morrison, a proven wing player who should thrive playing next to a playmaker like Paul.

3. Seattle: PF/SF- Andrea Bargnani, Italy

The Sonics would have liked one of the other two, especially local boy Adam Morrison, but they are stuck with Bargnani, which should not be seen as a bad thing. They still have Radmanovic on the roster at present, but the drafting of Bargnani might spell the end of his Sonics' career. At worst, Bargnani is going to be a better version of Radmanovic, so it's an upgrade. Bargnani can spread the floor & hit the longball & should fit in well with all the other perimeter-based Sonics.

4. Utah: SG- Vince Dehere, Tunisia

If he's available at 4, you really have to lock in Vince Dehere at this position. You might not know much about him now, but you will soon enough. The Jazz start Gordon Giricek at SG. Dehere is an immediate upgrade, & is probably an even better shooter than Giricek, let alone his other intangibles. If available, this should be a lock.

5. LA Lakers: PG- Marty Gartner, Purdue

I know Smush Parker has fit in great, but who knows if he can continue his performance long-term. If he does, Gartner will make a superb backup as a rookie. If not, then Gartner should be able to slide into the starting spot. Although Jackson doesn't usually like undersized guards, Gartner's basketball IQ should endear him to the legendary coach. If they don't grab Gartner, I can see the Lakers taking the best available talent in Rudy Gay. We all know what Phil Jackson did with Scottie Pippen, so it could be a match made in heaven.

6. Portland: SF- Rudy Gay, Connecticut

This is best available talent pick right here. Blazers need a big man, but probably don't want to stretch on Splitter, Robards, Harding or Williams at this pick. Talent is talent, & Rudy Gay has loads of it. Gay has enormous upside & his drafting would surely spell the end of a player like Travis Outlaw's future in Portland.

7. Orlando: SG/SF- Rodney Carney, Memphis

This is a perfect fit. The Magic need an athletic SG who can score & put fans in their seats, & Carney can do all of that. If Carney is available, then the Magic would have to take him. If everyone somehow passed on Gay, then he could fall this far, but that's very unlikely.

8. Toronto: SG- Ronnie Brewer, Arkansas

As usual the Raptors need a bigman &/or a PG. So what do they do? They take a SG, although if they do take Brewer he is a combo guard so can help out with PG duties. A player like Shelden Williams would seemingly be a perfect fit for Toronto, but the Raptors work on their priorities, whatever they are. This pick would help to replace the loss of Morris Peterson.

9. LA Clippers: SG/PG- Keenan Pack, Libya

With the ageing Sam Cassell & the often-injured Shawn Livingston, this pick would be to sure up the backcourt for the future. Pack & Livingston could potentially make a lethal backcourt combo for years to come, if this pick eventuates. He can shoot the rock & will be a sparkplug to the team that picks him. You could see the Clippers take a big here also.

10. Chicago: PF/SF- Severin Harding, Arkansas-Little Rock

Word on the street is this guy is climbing fast & the Bulls have their eye on him. He's a forward who can do everything, shoot from outside, go inside, rebound, block, he does it all, & the upside is there. His small-town school background will scare some suitors off, but I think he's this year's Ike Diogu. If not Harding, the Bulls will surely grab another big like Robards, Splitter or Williams.

11. Phoenix: PF/C- Tiago Splitter, Brazil

Phoenix always needs help inside, especially with the retirement of Brian Grant. Splitter can run the court, doesn't mind doing the dirty work on boards & defense, & is an improving shooter, so he could be the perfect fit for the running & gunning Suns. Only other option would be if Suns wanted another gunner, & none are better than Duke's J.J. Redick.

12. New York: PF/C- Garth Robards, Illinois

The Knicks will surely go big with a few quality prospects still available. Whilst I can't see Robards helping the Knicks too much, he's probably just part of the Isiah Thomas' trade asset stockpile for the next series of wheeling & dealing.

13. Boston: PF/C- Shelden Williams, Duke

For the 4th straight pick, a team goes big. Williams will add more toughness inside & team with guys like Jefferson & Perkins to create a promising future in the paint for the Celtics.

14. Indiana: SG- J.J. Redick, Duke

After a college career like his, I couldn't possibly leave J.J. Redick out of the lottery. Combined with Sarunas Jasikevicius, this duo could combine to become the most clutch shooting pair of guards in the league. Who would you leave open if you had the choice? Surely you would double off either of these guys. Pacers could also go big, but all the other quality big's have gone in the last 4 or 5 picks, so the Pacers go with the best available talent.

That completes my Mock Draft Lottery. I'm sure a lot will change between now & draft day, but that's how I see the draft unfolding.

Tue Mar 14, 2006 1:59 pm

Nice mock draft, but do the Blazers need Gay when they've already got Miles, Outlaw, Webster and Peterson?

I smell trade

2006 DRAFT LOTTERY PICKING COMPETITION

As per Sit's suggestion, we will have a pick the lottery competition that will affect your power/influence ratings....as per Jugs' request, I am labelling the top 35 draft prospects for you guys to pick from....

Everyone has to guess the 14 lottery selections....you receive 0.001 for entering....0.010 for getting a player in right draft position, or 0.005 for getting a player within one draft slot of where he ends up being picked....if a player is 2 spots within the draft slot, then you get 0.001 points....if a player is within 3 spots, then they get no points, 4 spots & you lose 0.001 points, 5 spots you lose 0.005, and if you are 6 or more spots outside your prediction then you lose 0.010....have adjusted the scoring slightly due to the fact that this year's draft is a little bit more erratic than the previous year's versions of Live....I might also have a bonus for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places but I'll decide at a later time....

do the Blazers need Gay? not really....it's the age old question of filling a need or taking the best available talent....sometimes I go one way & sometimes I go the other....I'm interested to see the Mock Drafts that you guys put up & see if you work out who I'm gonna pick :P

I'll start to post pre-draft workouts tomorrow I'd say....
